Beautiful work that was great to watch. It brought back so many memories from the '70s. You can keep coming back to these mountains and every visit is different, love it. .....longantach!
Thank you for the beautiful images and no talk over with loud music, a rare thing these days. Alligin one of my favourite mountains and Torridon my favourite part of the Highlands to visit. I climbed Alligin in between lockdowns and in 27degrees. The steep climb, at the beginning, nearly finished me off but the views from the top were breathtaking. Sorry you didn’t make the Horns but understandable given the lateness of the day, though I’m guessing the time it took you to retrace your steps over the first Munro, was probably not that much different to doing the Horns. You really lucked out on the weather though and so rare to get those kind of conditions in Scotland. Were you just lucky or were you scouring the weather charts for days - ha ha! Either way, the winter visibility paid off and you got some great shots. I haven’t seen your work before but very pleased your posting dropped into my feed. I saw in your page you have done Sarek. I did part of the Kungsleden in Sept this year - Nikkualokta to Abisko via Nelllo and Vestas - truly awesome and the first signs of winter that far north. Bon canmino in your travels my friend and look forward to seeing other posts 🇮🇪👏🍻
Thanks so much for the feedback. Glad you enjoyed it. You're right about the Horns / turning back not being much different in time. I was in a dilemma on Sgurr Mor trying to decide what to do. It was pretty icy and having done the horns many years ago I knew it might be quite slow going in winter conditions. So I took the easy option and headed back the way I came. I didn't want to find myself half way along the horns struggling on steep icy ground and not having time to turn back from there. There's always another day. I was up hiking around Nikkaluokta in winter many moons ago. Fantastic area. I climbed Kebnekaise in full winter conditions. Absolutely stunning. That was in the days before youtube though so there's no film for that one. Thank you for watching. More to come!
Wow. Absolutely superb. It's just come to mind that this was the last hill me and a mate did before he died. I'm going back! Thanks so much for this one Jim.
I've watched this several times, and have been trying to think what to say, but can't...when in the mountains there's never any need to say anything, but yes, stunning.
Having been spoilt for choice with the likes of Harmen Hoek and Kraig Adams videos, I think yours deserves a special mention. I keep being drawn back to it, especially the music in the opening bit and also the music and the sunset at the end. You can almost feel the cold when you hear you footsteps on the snow/ice 🙂
Thanks for the kind words. Appreciate your comment about the audio of the footsteps. I've been trying to get the audio mix right. I think it really helps recreate the atmosphere. Glad it made you feel cold as that's exactly what it felt like when I was there!
@@Jim_Manthorpe-hiking Hi Jim, I think the ambient sound of footsteps, the wind, water flowing, etc all add to the listening experience and that's on top of the great choice of music and amazing drone shots. It doesn't matter that I've heard some of them on other channels, but that's probably because these tracks are very good choices and go really well with the visuals. I didn't mention, but the timing of the music in your video is really good too and great editing. Would be great to see longer videos, but then I can always watch the same one on repeat haha.
That's interesting that you've heard the music in other films. I spend quite a lot of time trying to find the right music. Obviously I'm not always being as original as I thought I was! 😅 I think the ambient sounds are really important. Gives a sense of what it felt like to be there. Thanks for your feedback. I really appreciate it. Will definitely do some longer films next year. A few people have suggested it.
Thanks. Totally agree that the hills look so much better with snow on them. I did the horns years ago in summer. Would have liked to have done them this time but ran out of time. Spent too long setting up shots!
Awesome footage you have quite some talent mate fantastic views and photography an amazing place which you captured very well I backpacked the Corbetts to the east of Ben Alligin in April of this year and went over Beinn Dearg which you captured so beautifully cheers
Thanks so much for the kind comments. It really makes a difference when I get supportive feedback. Spurs me on to do more. The Torridon corbetts are great hills eh. I did Beinn an Eoin many moons ago but have yet to do Baosbheinn. It's on my bucket list. Once did Beinn Alligin, Beinn Dearg and Beinn Eighe in one day. Don't think my creaky old knees could manage that these days!
Video haven't ended yet and I realized that I want to see it over again, with the same feelings I had while watching. This film works better than many mindfulness apps and videos in the internet and market. Amazing journey and an outstanding movie! Thank you for sharing 🤝 Is there any plans to release an extended version of it? Please...
Thank you. It's great to hear you say that. I was trying to create a kind of "mindful" feel so I'm happy that you feel that way. I wasn't planning on making a longer version of this film but now that you have suggested it I could head back to Torridon for a few days and make a longer film. Thanks for the idea!
I’ve done Alligin a few times now it’s my favourite walk but never in the winter ,haven’t been back to Torridon for 8 years now your video really was special
Epic Views, particularly @Sunset! My experience of the Torridon Peaks of Beinn Alligin & his"Horns"(!), Beinn Eighe & Liathach is only during the much warmer months of May/June when most of the snow has melted apart from the Northern Corries!
Thanks. That's a great time of year to be in the hills too. Love it when the dying patches of snow are clinging to the northern corries in late spring.
Hi Jim. Lovely early morning colours, the drone shot of you on one of the summits with the lake in the background was stunning. It looked like a good day's hiking. Nice one 👍
Majestic. I did a quick image search on these mountains: I don't think anyone has made them look better. That light dusting of snow on the horizontal strata of the Torridon sandstones just brought out that ancient, ancient geology so perfectly. (When you are walking on a stray bit of America that got tugged away by the opening Atlantic, then you can surely feel the planet.) You were a long way from anywhere, on top of a very remote Munro at a December sunset, and I gather that this area has no established paths. What time could you close a door on the wind, cold, and the dark?
Thanks Roy. Great comments. The geology in the north-west is fascinating. Like you say, the snow really helps to define the strata in that Torridonian sandstone. I always think we're so lucky to live in a time where we (or rather geologists before us) have worked out the history of these mountains. It makes it all the more fascinating to gaze upon them and think about how they came to be in their present state. I stayed until sunset on Tom na Gruagaich, knowing that there was a pretty good path all the way down to the foot of the hill and I had two headtorches (just in case one failed!). I managed to get off the icy section at dusk and only needed the headtorch for the easier lower section. Thanks for watching.

Man alive, what a fantastic recording to watch. Thanks for taking the time to share it.
Thank you! Was a fun one to film. glad you enjoyed it 🙂
The best video of Torridon I’ve seen on TH-cam, outstanding!
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed it! I was lucky to have such great weather. 🙂

Thank you. So true what you say. This was my fourth time on Beinn Alligin and every time has been different - a totally new experience.
The black cleff looks stunning with a dusting !!!
Yes, conditions that day were perfect.
Absolutely spectacular from the first to the last second. Amazingly shot.
Thanks David! 🙂
I have to say that was a thing of beauty. Absolutely fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Appreciate it.😊
This is a beautiful film. Like a slideshow with a sublime soundtrack 🙂

Breathtaking and majestic ✨✨amazing cinematography.
Thanks Sharon. Loving your music too!
Speechless. I don't think I've seen more majestic views of Torridon - in person or in film - absolutely amazing.
Thank you! It's so lovely to get comments like these. Makes all the effort worth while. 😊

Thanks Daniel. Really enjoyed making this one. I'm just back from another trip. Film out shortly.
Wow. Absolutely superb. It's just come to mind that this was the last hill me and a mate did before he died. I'm going back! Thanks so much for this one Jim.
Thanks so much. I'm really glad it's inspired you to head back to Torridon. And touched that it reminded you of your friend. 💚
So beautifully done, mesmerising.
Thanks George!

Ahh, thanks Steve. Your support means a lot to me. It's good to let the mountains do the talking as I'm sure you'll agree 😉
Absolutely wonderful. Thank you very much for sharing.

Beautiful video, incredible scenery , fantastic drone work 👏👍🏻
Thank you Paul. Getting good drone shots is made a lot easier when the mountains look this beautiful.
Yeah but you still have to have an eye for the shot 👍🏻👌🏻
Kind of you to say. Thanks.@@paulevans1139
Great wee video , beautifully done 👍
Did it with the Horns during the summer, but I love the winter , the hills look so much better 😍

Wow. Thank you. High praise indeed! That's really kind. Thanks for being so supportive. Will be more to come.
This is pure poetry! Words fail to do justice to the beauty your camera and film have captured so well.
Thanks Andrew!
no talking, just mountains..beautiful
It's good to know there are others like me who like the mountains without commentary. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely stunning. You have really captured the brilliance and awesome nature of these beautiful mountains.
Thank you Charles. Kind of you to say. It does make it easier to film the mountains when they are looking as good as they were that day.
Absolutely stunning! Great scenery and so beautifully captured 👌
Thank you John. I got a good day for it.

Thanks very much. I'll check out your channel.
What camera did you use?
I use a Canon 5DIV and a DJI Mini 3 Pro. T
