Thank you so much for this video! I lived in Huntington Woods, made my First Communion here and attended church for decades. I remember watching and listening to Father Coughlin and waiting to hear later what the adults had to say. Nearly 80 now, The Shrine of The Little Flower will forever hold a most cherished place in my heart.
I was born in the mid-fifties across the street from Mary Grove College in Detroit. I did most of my growing up in Birmingham. We often visited old relatives in Royal Oak and in Huntington Woods. I have so many memories of seeing that wonderful Art Deco tower and church. I heard that the Christ's round halo, which is lit from within at night, was also the window of Father Coughlin's office.
All this is SO fascinating! I was born in Detroit. We lived in Royal Oak (Edgewood Dr). I was baptized by Fr. Coughlin (1965). My Father was an organist at the Shrine (Francis Klimczak). Any Friends / Neighbors here? I do not remember Fr. Coughlin myself. Would love to learn more about him and about how was the Parish those days.. :)
Fr. Coughlin would have been shocked to hear himself described as a "Marxist." If you check out a couple of his speeches (here on TH-cam), you'll hear what he has to say about communism.
He was anti communist. Anti semitic and hateful too. Not much difference between fascism and marxism when they both feel entitled to control peoples lives.

The ship door is beautiful. I had a house with a door from a ship once. Thanks for sharing.

You are so lucky to have been baptized by Fr. Coughlin, he wanted the best for the West and more should have listened.
I love this church. I went to grade school there. Baptized by father Prus.

Coughlin has returned as Trump
@@darylturcott maybe maybe I haven't been this scared for my country since 68.
Trump has no personal convictions he is an egoist. He will say anything to get his way.

Dude, get a Steadicam. Interesting material but painful to watch.
Hey John I was looking into handheld gimbals but most of the reviews were mixed.
Not really a "tour" per se, is it? More of a twitchy walkaround while talking.
True enough. I will edit the description.
Royal Oak should be renamed St Charles in honour of Father Coughlin
