They should have taken her to Deep Elm, they have amazing little dark urban shops there. She would have fallen in love with everything. The Dallas Blogger made me so mad.

I feel like that’s Texas southern accent. I’ve lived in central Texas for most of life, and I’ve never heard anyone go “full southern” without it being a joke. She could also do what I do when meeting people from out of state and lay it on a little thicker. I also have a drawl when I’m angry about something. 😂

You should do "wearing clothes out of my comfort zone for a week" such as wearing short shorts if you're uncomfortable showing thigh, or exposing belly button for a week if that's something you're uncomfortable with. Or even like, wearing your hair up for a week. Just something to help you expand your clothing comfort zone. It'd be cool to watch you grow and expand your horizons.
Best thing you can do really for any of em is to make lots of noise as you’re hikin so they don’t approach you to begin with. They’ll try to avoid you whenever possible, even a mama will just get up and take her cubs with her. She’s mainly defensive when she feels like you’ve walked up on her. Make noise, she hears something that sounds big coming, she’d rather leave than confront.

I was on my way home from Trader Joe’s in the Alphabet here in Portland, and could have sworn that I had seen Tyler and Safiya across from Salt & Straw! So neat to know it was actually them! Loved the outfits!
I live in Portland and the stylist was close with the jeans (why are they dirty?) and flannel, but forgot two very important pieces: a scarf and a beanie. If you want to be truly authentic, you must also have a dog, a bicycle, and a beer in your hand.

I’m assuming none of you folks on this comment chain are on the west coast. Portland was not authentic. The Portland outfit ended up being a mishmash of all of the things that are trending on Instagram right now. I think this is mostly due to a weird blurred line that has occurred from a lot of misplaced nostalgia coming from popular shows set in other eras. It was the most “trendy” outfit, but not the most authentic to its host city. I’m not trying to be mean - just defending my old home town :) We don’t just wear jeans and flannels. WE REALLY DON’T.

Well, I think Americans tend to call anything second-hand "thrifted".. I've definitely seen these types of vintage stores in larger UK cities (Bristol, Manchester off the top of my head, ofc London too). Their equivalent of charity shops would be Goodwill and the Salvation Army - though ofc they probably are much bigger!
@@missvioletnightchild2515 yep we have a wide variety of second hand stores, which is where I get the vast majority of my clothes, jewelry, household stuff, ok most of my everything lol. I went here when I visited Portland. A lot of the stuff was second hand but with Beverly Hills prices. Most of the t-shirts I found were at least $15, ranging up to $100!!! I did also find more reasonably priced thrift stores and consignment shops.
Honestly, your experience is far more accurate to mine shopping at secondhand shops in the USA. There’s like a difference between “thrift stores” that usually curate what they’ll take from people and has slightly higher prices and certain brands, and something thats probably more similar to a charity shop, like Goodwill, which takes pretty much anything you throw their way. The only things I’ll get at the nice thrift stores are jeans bc they look nicer than Goodwill jeans 😂

I mean it's not super unique so I kind of agree with you, which is why I put the midwest all in one category, but yes! Everyone wears some sort of t-shirt with a sports team or something they're in to with jeans. At least where I'm from in Cincinnati, super preppy clothing (kind of J.Crew-esque) but also southern preppy like Vineyard Vines, etc. has been in for the past few years (even though that's not my style at all). It's like we're so close to Kentucky so we sort of take inspiration from that. Ohio, if anything, generally follows trends and never really has it's own.

As a portlandian living abroad, this is like comfort food. Tryon creek is an awesome place to go hiking as well in the middle of the city, just on the other side of the river, a bit less manicured and more old growth forest. And just down from red light is an amazing place called waffle window, they have fun gourmet waffles that they sell from a window, chicken and waffles or the basil and brie, totally recommend.

I live in Portland and the stylist was close with the jeans (why are they dirty?) and flannel, but forgot two very important pieces: a scarf and a beanie. If you want to be truly authentic, you must also have a dog, a bicycle, and a beer in your hand.

I’m assuming none of you folks on this comment chain are on the west coast. Portland was not authentic. The Portland outfit ended up being a mishmash of all of the things that are trending on Instagram right now. I think this is mostly due to a weird blurred line that has occurred from a lot of misplaced nostalgia coming from popular shows set in other eras. It was the most “trendy” outfit, but not the most authentic to its host city. I’m not trying to be mean - just defending my old home town :) We don’t just wear jeans and flannels. WE REALLY DON’T.

Well, I think Americans tend to call anything second-hand "thrifted".. I've definitely seen these types of vintage stores in larger UK cities (Bristol, Manchester off the top of my head, ofc London too). Their equivalent of charity shops would be Goodwill and the Salvation Army - though ofc they probably are much bigger!
@@missvioletnightchild2515 yep we have a wide variety of second hand stores, which is where I get the vast majority of my clothes, jewelry, household stuff, ok most of my everything lol. I went here when I visited Portland. A lot of the stuff was second hand but with Beverly Hills prices. Most of the t-shirts I found were at least $15, ranging up to $100!!! I did also find more reasonably priced thrift stores and consignment shops.
Honestly, your experience is far more accurate to mine shopping at secondhand shops in the USA. There’s like a difference between “thrift stores” that usually curate what they’ll take from people and has slightly higher prices and certain brands, and something thats probably more similar to a charity shop, like Goodwill, which takes pretty much anything you throw their way. The only things I’ll get at the nice thrift stores are jeans bc they look nicer than Goodwill jeans 😂

I mean it's not super unique so I kind of agree with you, which is why I put the midwest all in one category, but yes! Everyone wears some sort of t-shirt with a sports team or something they're in to with jeans. At least where I'm from in Cincinnati, super preppy clothing (kind of J.Crew-esque) but also southern preppy like Vineyard Vines, etc. has been in for the past few years (even though that's not my style at all). It's like we're so close to Kentucky so we sort of take inspiration from that. Ohio, if anything, generally follows trends and never really has it's own.

And everyone pretty much wears gym shoes/ sneakers. We are not really unique here so I like it when I see people who do wear unique. out of the box styles.

As a portlandian living abroad, this is like comfort food. Tryon creek is an awesome place to go hiking as well in the middle of the city, just on the other side of the river, a bit less manicured and more old growth forest. And just down from red light is an amazing place called waffle window, they have fun gourmet waffles that they sell from a window, chicken and waffles or the basil and brie, totally recommend.

I'd say come to my home city of Seattle, but really it's not that much different to Portland. Though a coffee cup is considered an accessory here.
Brynley Louise I saw red light and was like yes we have that too in Seattle! But our style is so similar to Portland it wouldn't make sense to do both. All Northwest fashion is all pretty similar ❤
