  • Today Frank and I walk through a 4-part series on how to setup Pi-star from scratch. This is a complete tutorial for setting up Pi-star and using it on DMR, but we also talk about where to setup YSF and DSTAR also. If you have a new Pi-star device or are planning to build one, this tutorial could help you getting started and where to setup the device from there.

Sounds like just the video I have been waiting for. And from a source I trust. I have been toying with the idea of building my own MMDVM hotspot running Pi-Star to access D-Star with my Icom IC7100.

What would be amazingly useful when going to these screens are links and notes in the show notes, as well as on screen. I have followed the directions multiple times on three computers using two different browsers and have not gotten the pi-star config page to come up. I have gotten pistar UK but none of the data expect downloads are active.
At this moment my opinion of DMR and Jumbo spots are that it's a test from God for those people who make the mistake of praying for patience or studying the book of Job.

after you save and connect the new WiFi AP do you have to power cycle the hotspot?

Hello great video as always. Looking forward to to the other parts. I already have a Hotspot but still a great watch. I built mine with a raspberry pi 3 I had in a draw. Also has a built in battery. Just in the process of designing a different design for the case. I have pictures on my QRZ.
Happy Christmas and hope you have a splendid new year. Motters

Can you add more than one wi fi AP to a single hotspot so you can automatically connect to different networks while Mobile...Like while I am in my car it connects to my cell phone hotspot, but when I arrive at home I can shut my phone down and it connects to my home network automatically?

No, both the laptop and Pi are on the same network so you use a browser to login over the network

Good afternoon. Curious. Our MMDVM is configured to run on D-Star. Every 15 minutes or so, it announces "not linked" when it's not connected to a talk group. Any idea how to disable that announcement from happening every 15 minutes?

Actually if you attached a 5 ghz wireless device can use both 2.4 and 5 Ghz on your raspberry pi device. Not including, plugged in CAT5.

So your saying that the setup that
W1MSG HamRadio is not good? How many posts do we need how to setup Pi-Star?

    • @HamRadio2
      @HamRadio2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I don't know who 'W1MSG HamRadio' is, so I didn't say anything about that person or account.
You can never have too many posts about anything in Ham Radio, imo

    • @HamRadio2

The point is that I wasn't saying his process steps are wrong, since I don't know who he is. Your original question asked if I was saying his setup wasn't good. The answer is No... I am not saying that, since I don't know who he is and haven't watched his setup steps.
What I will also say is that...my viewers, the ones watching my channel, ask this question often. I am certain there are many setup instructional websites and videos out there for Pi-star, but since my viewers asked for this, I decided to make one myself. That doesn't negate anything that is already there, it is just responding to my audience and providing them what they ask for.

And more pi-star hotspots aren't good because of having two transceivers will front end overload each other if they're close to overload each other's receive since it's on the same frequency simplex.

@@HamRadio2 let's start with the raspberry pi.....and imaginary blocks. Block A is my HT. I say 'cq cq' into my HT. Block B is a hot spot that picks up my xmitted frequency. Block B then sends it to block C which, if I'm correct, is the raspberry pi. So... what part does a raspberry pi play before sending my cq to block D which is the internet? Thanks. KB8YRS.
