I've done it before as well. No better relief than fatting your tee shot 45 yds, sticking the second shot to a foot while your friends are still laughing...then tapping in for par. Spain would be so nice right now as I look out the window and see all this snow blowing around here in NY. Surely the next round finds you hitting better irons, Matt. I'm sure it did.
Love la Cala!! Played it every year for the past 20+ years 🥰 Santander next door is also lovely!! I’ll be back playing the americas course in september 💪🏻
So nice to see your mental game improving ☺️ After watching for yeeaaars I dare say that there has been times when a little extra frustration would have added some shots to that round. Good going, keep going 👍
Great concept Matt, really enjoyed it. Played this course in 1996 there were no trees, no buildings just miss a fairway and lose your ball in shrubs so sharp that sometimes you could see your ball but you couldn't get there.
Some good scrambling, outstanding putt on 10. As a high handicapper its nice to see bad swing days can happen to good golfers aswell, just got to keep going. Its easy to get carried away thinking everything has to be pga highlights perfect.
A 3 score handicap is best score against the course rating minus 2. The WHS system is designed on having 20 scores in and using best 8 and anything less than that is just so you can play and get more scores in. A lot of TH-camrs want people to think they are better than they are (it helps views) and this type of handicap estimation gives them that opportunity.
wellcome to being an average player mate we all feel it & you know you can do better we all think the same you just had an off day ,good content today listening to your thoughts etc
Matt that was a superb round considering hiw poor you hit irons for your standard.. loved you bigging up 16th and then spanners it to the ladies tee 😂😂😂😂😂😂 that's exactly how I play... even the old I never do that shot
well done for putting yourself out there but winning a pro event looks like a tall order, Monthly Medal more realistic.....😉 Having been harsh to you I wish you well in your quest...Happy New Year Matt
I see that at the beginning of the video you said the course was 6000 yards. According to the card on the website it's actually 6000 metres. All the hole distances you list as yards show up on the website as metres. Maybe you kept coming up short because the shots were 10% longer than you thought!
Not only that guys, tough to hit your distances when you're taking turf before hitting the ball, or hitting it thin. Better players always go to the distance they hit if they pure it. I know better and try to take an extra club just in case. I'll take the couple of times I'll actually do that and go long every round rather than consistently coming up short. Took me a lot of years to realize that, though.
Hi Matt Great vlog. Quick question please when were you actually there doing your video. Looking to go back to La Cala soon just wondering what weather is like in December January time. Thanks again keep up the great work 👍 Robbie Ps I said hello to you at last year's Open championship at Troon 17th hole 😊
The comment made by blue24563 is only partially correct. To get your handicap you must put in 3 cards of 18 holes. The egu then gives you your handicap. It is your responsibility throughout your further rounds to put in cards/scores which will adjust your handicap subject to scores you attain. This is where it goes wrong. Clubs in my experience don't police their members, therefore the bandits get away with not putting in cards and continue to play to their theoretical handicaps. I have seen scores coming in with 46 points off 28 handicaps on a slope 137 golf course. Everyone has a purple patch at times but not to that extreme
@@roberttaylor1801 True. Ideally, people should be putting cards in regularly to keep a true handicap. I recently lost in a match against a 24 and 18 handicap. My partner and I were giving them 21 shots and the shot 11 over par (foursomes) 😂😂😂 I think clubs are starting to take action though. I was only really talking about the initial stage. The handicap on the first 3 cards is artificially low because they deduct 2 shots.
@@blue24563in the past, clubs had the ‘General play’ rule, this meant the handicap committee or organiser could adjust handicaps following match play and dare i say it, reports about deliberate handicap management. Also you went down quickly, but up slowly, so in my view the old system was fairer. I just returned to golf following a 7 year break, i was given my old handicap of 3, pals that were similar handicaps when i last played were laughing, as their handicaps were all around 10, ironically one year later i am 8.7, highest ive been since i was 14 years old, now 68. The slope system is a joke, difficulty is assessed on hazards, RGU recognises bunkers as hazards, but not heather or wind, both of which are much sterner tests than bunkers. As a consequence we are rated as easy, yet we have one of the toughest courses in our county. @ Home clubs still can adjust the handicap of their members but there are restrictions to it. I agree the slope rating system is absolute nonsense. I find course difficulty varies mostly depending on the individual player’s strengths and weaknesses.
Hole 6 The range finder told you it was 230. You should use a 3 or 4 iron. You chose a 5i, which goes 205, and then then you come up short. Your ego needs mended.
Very hilly courses often have fewer yards because they play a lot longer than the yardage suggests, also the amount of dog legs can have a big effect on how the course plays..
What I see now regarding the WHS is so many golfers cherry picking rounds they submit, good ones and bad ones depending on their objective. So funny guys off of 4 handicap for instance who are more like 12 plus and having trouble breaking 90 in a medal. You see them, good round put it in for handicap, put in the bad one ? not likely ! Once upon a time a 4 handicapper was a good ball striker but now many are semi choppers !
@@Mattfryergolf Matt, what's also happening is guys are getting their mates who are not playing with them authenticating their round for handicap.
