    Just a little correction: Ötzi wasn't found in the Swiss Alps, he was found in the Ötztal Alps (that's where he got his nickname from) which are located at the border between Austria and Italy.

    I have almost exclusively ornamental tattoos! Growing up in New Zealand I always admired Ta Moko and traditional Polynesian tattoo culture although being Pakeha (of European decent) I did not feel like it was culturally appropriate to get traditional pieces from these cultures. I have Tukutuku patterns that are traditionally not seen in Ta Moko, patterns drawn by Maori artists, a topographic map sleeve of Te Henga, and native Manuka flowers done in a very graphic way to name a few. You should 100% do a video on Maori Tattoo culture it has such a rich history and there is a real comeback of the younger generation of Wahine (Women) getting traditional Moko face tattoos, I think your American viewers would find it really interesting . We are one of the most Tattooed nations in the world and it's widely accepted and respected here!

      That’s an amazing suggestion I will 100% look into doing a video on Maori tattoo culture ! Thank you!

      @laurianed5394 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, I would love to learn more about Maori tattoo culture (and also how you got inspired maori tattoos without appropriating this culture)!

    • @quinn_cooke
      @quinn_cooke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@laurianed5394 Modern Ta Moko are often seen in a sleeve and tell the story of your family history and where your tribe is from. So for me I chose to get a topographic map sleeve of Te Henga (Bethells Beach) which tells the story of a piece of land that has been in my family for years with the topographic lines reference linework seen in Ta Moko. Te Henga has a number of archaeological sites important to the Maori people of the area so it seemed fitting and was designed as a 21st present by my father, I often get compliments from Maori and Pacifica people on this piece so it is very special to me. The artist 'Manawa Tapu' is worth checking out on Instagram, I have work from him using Poutama Patterns which are traditionally seen in weaving not tattoos and also have linework drawings from the artist Ralph Hotere, who is widely regarded as the most important Maori artist of the 20th century.

    I really do think these are pleasing to look at and the artists have a ton of talent. I just see sooooo many artists doing similar sacred geometry/mandala designs these days that it's hard for me to imagine a future where we don't look back on this trend as being this generation's 90s tribal tattoos. ✍

I absolutely love the idea of ornamental tattoos (and I think the one you got suits you so well!). They're so perfect in so many ways. Would you be able to please do a video on as many different styles of "healed results" as possible? I'm always interested in seeing healed work after a year or two since I've learned that certain line/dot styles lend themselves to better results than others.

    You should check out my country, philippines, history of tattooing from the northern part (whang od, still living) and the pintados. Tattoo on men represent strength in combat and their death counts. The more tattoos the stronger (facial tattoos are for the few). Women can have tattoos for sex appeal. We have a rich history of this.

    Didnt they also find in the last several years an "ice maiden" with tattoos? Have developed a huge love for this style. Trying to figure out designs that are not cultural appropriation (or ones that belong to my ancestry) has been daunting due to lack of easily found or confusing information. Getting to a point its like, screw it because everythings so muddled because of migration, "copied" or similar in ways that as long as its not obviously a style that belongs to a specific culture i am not part of it shouldnt be an issue
