Nice comparison, a well regulated, well tuned, acoustic will always beat a DP on sound. There is a huge resonance wooden resonance box in front of the player and the nuances are just too complex to be emulated by a DP. But the DP is a lot more user friendly, that is what most people want nowadays. Thanks for sharing
I listen with high end headphones and DAC and... the digital piano sounds chimey vs acoustic one ! Nothing is comparable. The hights, the mediums and the bass.
The acoustic piano can sound very loud when played vigorously. Digital, on the other hand, generally sounds with more controlled dynamics and its power is limited by its amplifier. If you have a place to make noise, buy the acoustic one. If you live in small places, buy digital.
When I was young, I always wished there were good digital pianos: no tuning, adjustable sounds and tunings. Nowadays we have that. As an owner of an CLP785PE I can confirm it is great to play and it sounds great. Then I am currently saving to buy me either a Piano or a Baby Grand and the U1 and U3 sound fantastic and now that I have a dream digital piano, I am dreaming of having an acoustic one again to have both choices. Concerning the sound, if you use Pianoteq on a Notebook, that beats everything and I found out that many pianist recordings actually are being made using software libraries while recording the video when they play the piece on a grand.
I have a 745 and I am getting a U1 so similar boat the 786 are good for digital but nothing beats the sound of a traditional acoustic. I teach so I get a discount I am getting $4000 for my 745 in trade I. Full value and the YU1 used is $7000 killer deal
I own the CLP785 digital, and have the acoustic U1 in my studio. I actually prefer practicing on the digital (shock horror 😱). It feels nicer to me and can handle more complex repertoire and repeated notes. Not to mention the drum rhythms are fun to jam to and I can use Piano Marvel and other apps on my iPad via Bluetooth. Digital pianos have come a long way and imho are more beneficial for many of today’s students.
Problems with acoustic instruments - they are not constant in sound, they require temperature and humidity conditions, require tuning, which is impossible for some regions due to the lack of specialists, as well as qualified specialists, many tuners have low qualifications and will never tune your instrument the same way as a digital piano will sound, you have to pay for tuning a piano every six months, the hammers wear out over time and the sound becomes ringing, intonation of the hammers is required, this is an expensive procedure. Also from the disadvantages of an acoustic piano: you have only one piano sound and nothing more, you do not have rhythms, you do not have headphones, you do not have reverberation, you cannot adjust the brightness of the hammer hitting the string (intonation), you cannot change the pitch, you cannot record a song in memory. But a digital piano requires power supply. Therefore, I think that it is a great happiness to have both a digital and an acoustic piano at the same time and enjoy them.
A recording does not make justice to an acoustic. And the feeling is always better on an acoustic, which also can't be translated on a YT video. All in all, the digital is pretty nice sounding and can replace an acoustic if you prefer less maintenance and weight (and some things like MIDI, easy recording, DAW integration, ...)
If you listen at live, the sound from an acoustic piano can never be copied by an DP. However if you listen to them in a video, the CLP785 exhibits some Grand piano features which overtake the U1 level, especially at low bass region.
I don't notice a significant difference between the 785 and the acoustic in the middle and high sounds, in the low sounds the 785 has exaggerated OVERTONES (I really played it), on acoustic the low frequencies sound sharper and clearer than the 785. But if you need to record your own piano acoustic sounds instead of dealing with microphones buy a new 785, its great digital piano!
Apples and oranges, I like both fruits, but they are entirely different... Apples vs oranges....sounds weird because it is...doesn't make sense....you can't pit a U1 "against' an electric piano of any caliber. They make the sounds differently, only played similarly...stating the obvious. Not sure about the VS in the title. Exactly the point of this video being?
Classics pianist not so fast ny friend nothing. Beats the sound of an acoustic piano. The 785 sounds great for a digital piano but at the end of the day a digital piano is a digital piano and an acoustic is an acoustic That is why a new 785 costs about $7000 where as if you don’t get a teacher discount and you want to buy at the Yamaha store the YU1 is $13000. That is like comparing a Toyota to a Lexus. The advantage of digital is you can play with headphones and you dot. Need to tune plus you can play different instruments and set the best but nothing beats the power and sound of a traditional acoustic piano of a 48” Y1 So since a new

Both very nice indeed. The Acoustic got me hooked 🧡🧡🧡

It would be great to have also an interview with pianist to speak about the feel of both pianos
Great idea! Will do ✨🎹
I own a new U1 and a new P515. Absolutely no comparison. The P515 sounds like a toy in comparison to the U1.

Which compositions is he playing? Great demonstration!
it's NOT even close, definitely getting myself an acoustic instrument😄
How would you compare it in term of sound quanlity vs a real acoustic one. which range of acoustic pianos is closest to this electronic piano?
OMG the real thing blows it away.

Acoustic!! ❤
Acoustic, always.
The acoustic just felt more alive. One way to describe is fresh food vs overnight food.
@@axlcrush this is a great description, wow!
Hands down, acoustic and I don’t know much about pianos. 😍
Night and day.

A digital piano is not as good as an acoustic and never will be. A true pianist can tell the difference in the sound of live music versus a recording.
