How to Install Shingles on a Shed Roof

Installing shingles on a 10x12 shed roof. To install the shingles we first install metal drip edge and gutter edge along the sides and base of the roof. A starter strip of shingles is placed on the lowest point of the roof. This allows the first course to have no gaps in coverage. Starting with a full length shingle roofing nails are used to fasten down the shingles. The next course has 6" removed from the shingle to make sure there is no gap in coverage on the shingle below. The ridge cap uses a metal flashing with caulk. After the metal flashing we install a ridge cap to make the build look better.

I love the content thank you!! If you were to redo the Metal Flashing and Roof Ridge Cap... Would you only do the Roof Ridge Cap and be ok with is protecting from water? Asking so I'll know if I should buy enough metal flashing to still go under the ridge cap.

Thank for watching! You will only need the metal roof cap. The flashing was a first attempt and is not pretty.

Is there a reason why you wouldn't want to over hang the first starter shingle strip? I see the very first one after that you mention the over hang on the sides and bottom but why not do that also with the starter shingle?
