The trailer doesn't do justice to this series, honestly. The screenwriting, cinematography, set design, lighting, music, acting, the complete package. Brilliant!
[9.5] One of the top 5 of Crime Drama TV series Bron Broen truly deserves all the credit that it has gotten throughout the years. It is a tremendously well-written series with superb multi-layered and multi-faceted plots and sub-plots, meticulously assembled with extreme care, polished with beautiful filmography, sceneries and shots. It is my opinion that the Scandinavian writers and producers of such series are one of the best in the world, if not the best. Their major forte is the care and thought that they put in the script and storylines, with awesome attention to details, deep calculation of events, all without any destroying rush. Their work is truly awesome and a masterful creation. With that being said, and being specific to this series and to its acting this time, IMO, Sofia Helin (Saga Noren) steals the show on all levels, notwithstanding the series wonderful cast and acting, first and foremost, Kim Bodnia, the captains and the professional, bright and very likable medical examiner with his serene personality, attitude and calm behavior in all circumstances. Kudos also to the SWAT teams on both sides with their realistic gears, professionalism and performances, especially the more shiny Swedish Force. Returning to Sofia Helin (Saga), her stellar performance is so amazing that she deserves tons of praise and recognition, making words come short of describing the truly difficult and brilliant job that she did in portraying and bringing such a character to life. I loved with awe her focused, robot-like, knowledgeable, unforgiving and brutally honest character. She wouldn't ever give up, was hard working as hell, stubborn and stone direct. It was a peak pleasure to follow up her greatest play and I, actually learned quite a lot from her. Syndrome or no syndrome, her acting and character personality were unique to her in the most positive and award-winning ways. Many may not like and even despise her personality, facial expressions and behavioral portrayal in the show, but to me she was like a very bright and blinding light in the dark tunnel confines of the series. She will be unmatched for a very long time. Bron Broen was a unique joyful experience to watch and finish its four seasons. I won't differentiate between them. All were tremendously good and well-made with the masterful heading of Saga Noren, the lead female investigator. To all those who watched it already and to curious viewers who might want to give it a try, this gem comes highly praised and recommended, setting the Standard bar higher and an unforgettable experience well worth the time spent on it. Watch it to believe it! Sofia, you redefined your role on a whole new level. You have all my heartfelt esteem and undying respect.
I've heard nothing but great things about this show, the US version died quickly but this is the one that endures and I love Saga's Jager grun 1977 Porsche 911S!
I won’t even bother with the US version, they don’t know how to make good movies.. even when they copy the script, they change some things and botch it up!
@markjohnson7488 It might be because they evidently don't like eachother, or at least they're suspicious of eachother. Sweden and Denmark are sibling nations and there's very smooth cooperation, both in fictional settings and real life
I am glad that Saga carries a gun. British detective and police series always make me nervous because the detectives who are chasing criminals do not even carry a gun, which is insane if that happens in real life.

I watched 4 version of this genius series: Original Swedish, American, Russian , and UK. Offcouse Swedish is the best! Russian is good, UK is ok, and American is bad ..

I mean.. Yeah. Sopranos, Breaking bad, The wire True detective, Chernobyl.. those are Masterpiece shows, no doubt about that. Really enjoy every one and one of them from a different perspective. but I'm feeling there are so much other shows that can be compare with them and still unknown like those American shows. In other words - I'm feeling somehow that America just rules the world, and this example is just one of it.. I don't say that we can't expose to shows from other countries, I just saying that it's harder for us to do it. (maybe?..). Or it's just me?
It's an attitude issue. Most Americans never reflect on how the whole world is "expected" to watch Hollywood garbage but are surprised when faced with a quote unquote "foreign" film. It is as if Americans are ever so slightly surprised that any other countries are capable of making films, or non-English language music for that matter, or series, or.... India alone makes a lot more films than the U.S. every year, and it's not even close, but how many Americans (that are not South Asian) have ever actually seen or even heard of a Bollywood film? Compare that to the amount of Indians that have seen American films! The U.S. does not "rule the world" in terms of the quality of what it produces, it only rules the financial aspects of it. In the same way that the global spread of McDonald's by no means implies they have better burgers than any other chain
Call me back when the lazy producers dub it in English. I mean really! With all the technology of today there's simply NO excuse for there not to be English dubbed options on a popular foreign movie aside being lazy and cheap. Nobody wants to kick back for the night and 'read' a movie!
Don’t be lazy. It’s not that difficult to read it. And at the same time u get to learn some new words from a different language. But if you don’t then you’re really missing out on a great show
Excellent. I watched all four seasons. Top class drama. Sofia is excellent in the role of Saga. Far better than many American crime series. Bravo, Scandinavia!

maybe because i am half scandinavian, these box sets have intrigued and delighted my minimal sensibilities .. a genre unto themselves, subtle, stylishly cinematically shockingly subversive .. they make the anglodetectives look so tame and provincial .. i confess .. i am Addicted !

It indeed looks budget hollywood 90s but the show is nothing like that.. even the actors look cliché in this trailer where they're the opposite in the show. The Swedes have to talk very slowly for a Dane to understand them. Danes try to get to know a few Swedish words and do the Swedish sing song, but Swedes from Stockholm never learn any Danish at all and just switch to English. Which confuses me.Their Swedish accent in English is hard to understand. I speak both English and Danish and I can't understand Swedes in either Swedish or English.

the problem with nordics is their depression and anxiety ! the success of holliwood movies stay in they ability to entertain and not to be too serious !
They're gritty and real, and not fake. To me, every Hollywood film (slight exaggeration, but not far off) is the same. Explosion, CGI, CGI, some MORE CGI, don't forget some CGI, fast paced music and car chase scene, explosion, roll credits. God forbid you actually make slower-moving cinema with an actual PLOT and human emotions behind the thrilling scenes. At the end of the day, all cinema to some extent reflects the national character of the country it's made in. In Bron/Broen for example, there are literally TONS of little things here and there that are extremely Scandinavian and don't stand out at all to me in the way they probably would to a culture that's different, such as the American one (and it's a culture that's more different than many want to admit). Heck, in one of the first episodes Martin even jokes that he, as a fellow Scandinavian, finds the "Swedishness" of Saga (which is really just autism) grating by referencing Swedes famous for brooding, melancholic works (Bergman, Lars Norén), and he's supposed to be from a nigh-identical culture.
