Will never forget my little mishap in Petronas Tower: As a young engineer, was working in Floor, I think it was 82, to prepare a demo. First time there and also generally never been in such a high building, so I was curious what's on top - but elevators required a code I did not have.
So went into the emergency stairway, w/o much success, all doors above me locked.
Going back down to 82 - and also locked... all one way doors.
(...)
Took me over half an hour to get down, soaked, no climatisation there - and man was I relieved when THAT door on level 0 opened... Had some tough explaining to do, with the guards :-)
I'll take shit that didn't happen for $500, Alex.
@@timanders3151 lol, your life must be pretty boring, if you think a story about a guy having to walk down a long stairway must be a lie?
I mean: If I invented stuff, I would invent more interesting stuff than little mishaps at my time as an engineer for Siemens ;-)
Are you the one who mixed that bad concrete on that specific floor?

I watch a lot of these types of videos and i have to say, the music you use on every video just hits the spot for me.

I love how Elon's unfinished megagigafactory makes the list but Hyundai's and VW's factories don't, even though they are five times bigger and finished.
Classic brain dead TH-camrs
Probably an Elon's fanboy
Elon could start selling pooper scoopers and people would be mind blown and give him all the credit for revolutionizing dog waste removal.
projects usually mean unfinished
@@joshriley6505the first building is finished?
An entire city in Quatar cost the same to build as Twitter was sold for. That shot is crazy
@Underworld, check out at 10:03 the location is in Abu Dhabi, the Capital of United Arab Emirates- UAE. (Not Saudi, as you mentioned) :)
Holy cow- I really do have to get out more often. There's a whole world out there and it's bigger than I imagined.
Dude, i'm hearing ya
Same, as an American we are very sheltered and under knowledged, crazy all there is in the world, historical and present day to experience in a lifetime.
Did Oki do this video? I kinda sounds like him, and the info/research level on this video feels really high quality compared to other “top 10” videos on TH-cam 🥰 either way, got my sub!

Skyscraper buildings that seem so beautiful to look at are just an aesthetic hazard Consolidating a wide range of geological structures into one place only increases the risk, meaning that earthquakes caused by high-rise buildings are becoming more common.
Earthquakes aren't caused by skyscrapers
That’s not true at all. Pressure/tectonic plates and extreme releases of energy cause earthquakes. Even if the tallest and heaviest buildings were in one condensed place it wouldn’t do anything at all
glad to say i once took a dive into the Marina Bay Sands swimmingpool , just amazing
Jubail Island is not in Saudi Arabia. It is located adjacent to Abu Dhabi in the UAE.
Exacto. Pero para ellos es todo Saudí Arabia que tiene la lengua árabe.
Thanks for the clarification.
wrong. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jubail
The map shown is between Yas Island and Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE
There is another jubail on the west coast of Saudi Arabia
One looks to the future for so many things like this, but have we made sure that a GRB or CME won't put us all out of business, maybe forever?---Seems that (especially regarding the possibility of a CME) this should be a first priority.
A coming earthquake will be a disaster to these projects😮

For the last project: a map would be nice
Interesting fact about the Burj Khalifa. It does not have a sewer system, so every day trucks have to come and pump out the poop from the residents. I wonder how they missed that design flaw?
It’s not a design flaw. They would have had to dig the entire city up and replace the sewage system with a much bigger one in order to handle the volume. They decided to go with an alternate plan of trucking it…saved money to upgrade the cities system, disruption to the city to dig it all up and replace it, and provided speed to get the Burj up and in operation significantly faster. There are some videos on here documenting it.
That is insane! The trucks must go non stop 24/7. That's a lot of shit 😅
Sort of sums up Dubai quite nicely when one thinks about it……..just sayin’..👍😁

I’ve seen that Giga Factory outside of Austin. It’s off the tollway that connects San Antonio Metro to Austin minus all the traffic on I-35. It’s like two Amazon warehouses and some. Smart location too since it’s not far from Austin’s Airport and if they needed to expand that could
How much natural sunlight would you get every day if you lived in The Line? An hour? Two?
None

Jubail island is not located in Saudi Arabia, it is located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
No, the project is in Saudi Arabia’s east side
The project of Jubail Island City mentioned in the video is adjacent to Saadiyat Island and Yas Island. Get your facts straight.
I live near it😂😂. Es Stupido

Congratulations to Civil, Mechanical & Electrical Engineers! To Architects too!
Thank you.
You gotta add the investors too.
There are millions of people in Nigeria who have visions to build, create, manufacture incredible HUMAN-Made stuff but lack the backing of investors or Government support they needed to start the project. In Africa in a whole.
If Aliko Dangote’s family wasn’t rich, his ideas would’ve gone to waste. He might be just another African with big belly, average earnings & multiple children.
So kudos to the investors too
Nice you gave a shout out to the guys and gals that actually build it. Construction workers once again dont get any credit for accomplishing what engineers can only imagine
@@BrianSWG I'm a Mechanical engineer and I regard all labor involved in a my construction projects as engineers. Projects only start at the design level.

If Forest City is lacking residents, why did property prices increase?
Meet the market where it's at and drop prices to get the city underway.
I wonder if any of our modern structures will survive thousands of years to be later found by future civilizations if ours collapses due to natural events or nuclear warfare.
Just how we found the pyramids, giving us a glimpse of an ancient, lost civilization with no explanation of how they were built.
nothing from the 1990's or older will survive made to cheaply and made so that something new will be built to keep building companies making money.
The only remaining structures will be of stone. Just as we have today from our distant past.
Great point... I feel that society was advanced a lot more than we realize... Then something come along to destroy it such as disease. Now we're building up society again.
Pyramids are over 10k years old
The Line will never be built.
How are these the 10 biggest? You missed the Kashagan Project, Kazakhstan ($120 billion), Gorgon Project, Australia ($60 billion), Kearl Project, Canada ($33 billion), not to mention many others such as Simandou, GLNG, Sakhalin 2, etc. I could go on. Seems like you just randomly picked 10 expensive projects.
He said in the introduction, 10 of the biggest not the 10 biggest. In other words take the top 100 and here are 10 of them.
This video is garbage
That may be but that is not what he claims in his discription header..
Bait and switch...not that anyone is surprised by it.
Ppl don’t wanna hear about 10 oil projects. These ones were unique

The Deltawerken in the Netherlands, a project which took about 50 years and makes the Netherlands a safe place.
The line looks like something straight out of a futuristic movie but I absolutely love it
hehe Straight. imma head out .
Well, better get used to the idea it will never be finished. Likely, a smaller version will be built.
Also about the dumbest idea, pretty much what you expect from such a country ..
There’s problems from in a ecological way. The walls will be made of glass which will reflect sun and heat so the surrounding area will be hotter then usual temperatures. If anything it’ll become an all around laser beam during the day. Not to mention the ethical questions of keeping a large amount of people in one place.
@@archon7105 Not only ecological, a circle like we do all of our cities here in Europe or maybe a square like American cities all make somewhat sense but a line what is an advantage about a 20km straight line
By the way the picture that you used on the profile of video is grand Ethiopian Renaissance dam.
Amazing Concept 👍
very cool building
I wonder if the Saudis even considered that the mirrors on The Line would create a scorching hot death-ray from the Sun's reflection.
They don't look to be so thoughtful/considerate.
They don’t, they only pay, they don’t think
4 billion cubic meters of water... per day? per week? per millennia? It's kind of a meaningless measure without a timespan.
Similarly, "employs 20,000 workers per month" doesn't mean anything. Or, it just means the same thing as "employs 20,000 workers".
In the first case an amount was specified when a rate was needed. In the second case a rate was specified when an amount was needed. Otherwise, interesting stuff

La infraestructura de una gran y hermosa ciudad es gracias al poder del dinero pero bien invertido sebe hermoso
Fascinating!👍🙂
The largest ever infrastructure project in the history of man is the U.S. Interstate system. It has cost over 30 trillion dollars since it began in 1953. And it is still being expanded.
Thank you. 👍🏻 the Eisenhower interstate system is amazing.
There are more highways in China now
That would be true a decade ago, the Expressways system in China is more than twice the size of U.S. Interstate system now, even just China's High-speed Rail system alone will be larger than Interstate Highways before the end of the decade while America still can't finish even one High-speed Rail line, America's infrastructure was world class for a long time, but the arrogance and exceptionalism has eroded that impressive progress, after all, why would you try to learn anything from other ppl when you already automatically assume you are the best at everything
Did you here about the earthquake
What them should we go with for our new Waterpark? Oil refinery 😂😂
17:55 Do we still say "a fourth of the route"? No quarters anymore? 😂😂
No. 10 Petronas towers and No. 9 Marina Bay Sands were built by South Korean construction companies as was Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Those are some incredible construction engineering feat. I wish they also had the technical expertise and engineering ability to design them as well rather than actually build.
In most projects, the construction contractor is not allowed to be the designer of the project. This goes back to the ethics of engineers: if the designing company made a mistake, and they were also building it, it would be possible for the designer to cover it up.
So for not having the "ability" to design the project, that's not necessary fair to say. The construction team in a company is usually completely different set of people than the design team, so the companies make an executive decision often to determine which projects they will bid for design, and which projects they will be for construction (all assuming they even have a design team at all, some don't). We really can't say if they do or do not have the technical expertise to design this, just that the company choose to bid for construction on these projects and won.
Cheap labour.

One thing I've always wondered about with these videos -- and maybe they say it but, if so, I miss it -- is the countdown from the best to worst/most to least or the opposite? For instance, in this video is the Patronus Tower the largest megaproject or the smallest of the large? Just curious.
8. Forest City, Malaysia -- yes, that's the smart thin to do: Raise the prices of these incredibly unpopular apartments. Because... huh? That makes no sense at all.
7. Does anyone else find it either highly ironic or extremely telling that the Saudi Prince, of all people, is investing in sustainable energy? I find it incredibly creepy. I also predict it will be a massive failure. Didn't they hear about what happened in Malaysia?
Ditto Basail and Lasail. Here's a tip: With global warming becoming worse every year, no one -- and I mean, NO ONE -- wants to live in the hottest part of the world. If they were smart, they'd build in Canada. Just goes to show you that money and brains are often mutually exclusive.
FYI : Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan are not different counties. They're different countRies.
2. Hinkley Point C power plant. It's a good thing it will work until the 2080's-- it's going to take that long to pay for itself.
1. The Chinese water project should be completed just in time for their first major draught.
It's random no countdown just stuff in no specific order
❤️
Umm, this list shows global warming is false. It is simply a away to attack European countries to stall their development and further the European genocide. No intelligent person believes that global warming nonsense. Hence why the people that fund that propaganda are investing in all these projects and of course buying beach front homes everywhere.
Marige, why did you write this: "Here's a tip: With global warming becoming worse every year"?
That's not correct.
In fact, no one has yet shown any demerits to the very small increase we've had in the last 30 years, and quite a few merits, like record crop yields, more forest cover, less cyclonic activity, etc.
There are two policies *essential* to communism, without which you have *NO* communism.
1. the government seizure of means of production,
2. the government seizure of all private property.
Now which is the ONLY country on the planet that implements both of these two policies?
North Korea.
Do you actually believe that the people with all the wealth would push for communism?
*Now is the time to think for yourself.*
China hasn't been communist since 1997, when they invited in foreign investment.
The Soviet Union ceased to exist in 1991.
Fun fact: as a sovereign nation, Russia has NEVER been communist.
