    Will never forget my little mishap in Petronas Tower: As a young engineer, was working in Floor, I think it was 82, to prepare a demo. First time there and also generally never been in such a high building, so I was curious what's on top - but elevators required a code I did not have.
    So went into the emergency stairway, w/o much success, all doors above me locked.
    Going back down to 82 - and also locked... all one way doors.
    (...)
    Took me over half an hour to get down, soaked, no climatisation there - and man was I relieved when THAT door on level 0 opened... Had some tough explaining to do, with the guards :-)

    Interesting fact about the Burj Khalifa. It does not have a sewer system, so every day trucks have to come and pump out the poop from the residents. I wonder how they missed that design flaw?

    • @rqeversole
      @rqeversole ปีที่แล้ว +18

      It’s not a design flaw. They would have had to dig the entire city up and replace the sewage system with a much bigger one in order to handle the volume. They decided to go with an alternate plan of trucking it…saved money to upgrade the cities system, disruption to the city to dig it all up and replace it, and provided speed to get the Burj up and in operation significantly faster. There are some videos on here documenting it.

    No. 10 Petronas towers and No. 9 Marina Bay Sands were built by South Korean construction companies as was Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Those are some incredible construction engineering feat. I wish they also had the technical expertise and engineering ability to design them as well rather than actually build.

    • @_Pixie_10
      @_Pixie_10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In most projects, the construction contractor is not allowed to be the designer of the project. This goes back to the ethics of engineers: if the designing company made a mistake, and they were also building it, it would be possible for the designer to cover it up.
      So for not having the "ability" to design the project, that's not necessary fair to say. The construction team in a company is usually completely different set of people than the design team, so the companies make an executive decision often to determine which projects they will bid for design, and which projects they will be for construction (all assuming they even have a design team at all, some don't). We really can't say if they do or do not have the technical expertise to design this, just that the company choose to bid for construction on these projects and won.

    One thing I've always wondered about with these videos -- and maybe they say it but, if so, I miss it -- is the countdown from the best to worst/most to least or the opposite? For instance, in this video is the Patronus Tower the largest megaproject or the smallest of the large? Just curious.
    8. Forest City, Malaysia -- yes, that's the smart thin to do: Raise the prices of these incredibly unpopular apartments. Because... huh? That makes no sense at all.
    7. Does anyone else find it either highly ironic or extremely telling that the Saudi Prince, of all people, is investing in sustainable energy? I find it incredibly creepy. I also predict it will be a massive failure. Didn't they hear about what happened in Malaysia?
    Ditto Basail and Lasail. Here's a tip: With global warming becoming worse every year, no one -- and I mean, NO ONE -- wants to live in the hottest part of the world. If they were smart, they'd build in Canada. Just goes to show you that money and brains are often mutually exclusive.
    FYI : Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan are not different counties. They're different countRies.
    2. Hinkley Point C power plant. It's a good thing it will work until the 2080's-- it's going to take that long to pay for itself.
    1. The Chinese water project should be completed just in time for their first major draught.

No intelligent person believes that global warming nonsense. Hence why the people that fund that propaganda are investing in all these projects and of course buying beach front homes everywhere.

      Marige, why did you write this: "Here's a tip: With global warming becoming worse every year"?
      That's not correct.
      In fact, no one has yet shown any demerits to the very small increase we've had in the last 30 years, and quite a few merits, like record crop yields, more forest cover, less cyclonic activity, etc.

      There are two policies *essential* to communism, without which you have *NO* communism.
      1. the government seizure of means of production,
      2. the government seizure of all private property.
      Now which is the ONLY country on the planet that implements both of these two policies?
      North Korea.
      Do you actually believe that the people with all the wealth would push for communism?
      *Now is the time to think for yourself.*
      China hasn't been communist since 1997, when they invited in foreign investment.
      The Soviet Union ceased to exist in 1991.
      Fun fact: as a sovereign nation, Russia has NEVER been communist.
