I am 74 yrs old and like many seniors struggle with tech...this video took me so clearly through each step (allowing me to pause and keep up with you as you walked through each possibility)..I am still not certain which "fix" did the job for me, but thankfully I now have my gmail notification/sound back again...I see below some folks are still struggling so perhaps I had a bit of , but I wanted to thank you for helping an old timer and I have bookmarked in favorites your videos page for future reference!
Out of the hundreds of videos on this issue, this was the only one that covered multiple solutions and nailed on my problem. It was the power saving button in my case that waa impeding the notifications to pop up. Gracias mi hermano!
I built a taxi website and I use email and web push notifications via the browser to update drivers and after removing the power saving option I started getting notifications even when the screen is locked. Thank you so much!
WORKED!! My Gmail notifications from all my accounts we're no longer notifying me until I open the app - then they all would appear 😡 When I followed your steps and went to battery, power saving mode, and turned that off, ALL my emails from all accounts just rolled in as notifications on my top notification tab. Everything working properly now!
Well, somehow this worked. Thank you! Brand new phone, I wasn''t getting notifications on quite a few apps, but most were easy to solve. Not Gmail, which I rely upon. I watched this once, but couldn't "keep up," but tried it again, pausing at each step, to make sure and sure enough it's worked. Not sure, tbh honest, which bit. I toggles Battery Saver on and off and also changed the default notification sound. Now, if only I can find a way of getting rid of the drop down notification "badges," on the Lock Screen which tells you practically everything in a text/What's App,email. I'm more than content with notifications in the notifications bar, or a number on the right hand corner of the App itself.. Anything else is overkill! 😉😉
The moment I turn on the sync I got 💌📬....thanx bro. I've been watching videos for long time and I had lost the hope to resolve this problem long ago. But just for this shit I got in trouble
Thanks for your very good video! Well done. However, can you help with one MAJOR PROBLEM with Gmail on Android? Although Gmail and the Android system is always updated, my Gmail INBOX may say I have x-number of new emails on the app opening screen (showing all the boxes); when I click on the Inbox to see the new emails, there is NOTHING there! AND it always (always!) says you're done and "nothing in inbox." Thus, for years now, I am forced to go to my regular desktop to actually see what the new emails are. Beyond frustrating. Any clues what to do? Thanks.
Thank you, receiving notifications again. Notifications were set on "High Priority Only". Rookie mistake. I suspect the update cause notifications worked just fine before.
you can put an exception for gmail at the do not disturb mode but turning off power saving mode really solved my problem, never really thought it was stopping the back ground activity of my phone that much thnx fam, really appreciate your help.
NOPE! I had tried every one of these already, and still not working! I have a brand new Pixel 8 phone and gmail is working on three of my old phones, but not this one. If I send a message to my gmail, I get notifications on all three of them within a few minutes, but nothing comes through on the new pixel! The message doesn't even come through right away when I open the gmail app. I have to manually swipe down to refresh my gmail inbox before I see the new message. Once I do that, it's there! I guess I need to find something beyond this, but I don't know, because there just are not any more settings to play with!! :( But, thanks for the video, so I CAN confirm that I've pretty much tried everything!
Having the same issue with my new S24 Ultra. The weird thing is I get instant notifications for my backup account, but not my main one. Also didn't have this issue on my S22 Ultra. Pretty frustrating.
hi . u can open ur gmail setting . then u choose ur email and click on manage label . u will see many options there likes primary / promotion . click one of those and turn on label notification . its works on mine
I never had these issues with my iPhone. I want to move away from iPhone but don't want the Android issues, so wondering if Google Pixels, with their closed OS, would be a better experience.
Amazing! I've been trying to sort this problem out for ages. Only one glitch for me, it's not giving notifications on my second gmail account. Can you help? I've gone through all of the above steps but still no luck. Thanks again.
Hi, first off, this is a great instructional video. I have the Motorola Edge 2022. I followed this to the T, and still is not working for me! Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Im not getting any notificaticon till i open it and when they send me code and when i look at it it resets so i cant enter the code till i get the notification
Hey.. i dont see the battery option in the app menu. Even when I see the detail list of apps in battery optimization, i somehow dont see the Gmail app listed there to customizr the battery options. Any reason why this may be happening? Using OnePlus 7 (with stable Android 12)
Possible quick solution that works for me: i go in my Phone's settings, on the Accounts section and on my gmails i press Sync now, after that it works fine for a few months till some random update or bug.
If anyone is still having issues with notifications actually appearing at all, I found this fix myself... I have had this problem for a long time now. I have since switched to Outlook with IMAP set up for my Gmail as it's more reliable with notifications (and has some good features too that Gmail doesn't have). Recently though I have looked in to Gmail fixes again and discovered if I turn on to sync and notify "All Mail" (found in the "manage labels" section) then restart the phone, emails start notifying again. Not only do they notify for All Mail they also notify for all filters too. Give it a try. It doesn't hurt to clear Gmail app cache before restarting. Let me know if this is useful for anyone

I've watched a few videos on this and I've followed the steps but I'm not getting the new messages in my Gmail. Does it take a while until it starts showing the emails?
Jared Griffiths bro, Make sure your Gmail App is Up to date, also the receiving message delay due to Internet, make sure you have a strong Internet connection. It might fix the issue.😊
It turns out that it was notifying fine, I learned that it's only supposed to check every 10-15 minutes since android 9 or earlier. You can google "stackexchange How can I change the rate at which Gmail checks for new emails?" to learn more
