    This is the Alex's alternative reality main theme, where he succeeds in getting the groceries.

    YIIK's a very heavily flawed game, but there's definitely things that stand out about it that set it apart and make it more interesting. The music, art direction, and obvious care put into the game make me hope it leads into something more. Was someone's first passion project, and there's something there.

      Yeah, absolutely. I love deeply passionate works. That's mainly why I made this extension; the title screen of this game is one of my favorite title screens, personally.
      I wanted to make it animated here in fact, but I wasn't able to get that working in a good enough quality, haha.

      Actually I believe it’s getting a major story addition soon. There should be a trailer on TH-cam.

      Technically, their _second_ passion project; Ackk Studios made a game before this one.

    this might sound mean but the title screen is legitimately the best part of the game. it's so atmospheric and beautiful. the music is great too. the game doesn't have many moments that are anything like this title screen. the secret ending of the game is pretty much the only thing i can think of.

      what about that chill moment weed vibe where the essentia tells you the plot

    Personal opinion piece on the title screen: I kinda prefer this one over the old one. The old one was calm, felt more like an ending screen, whereas this one feels like it's telling you to get ready for the chaos coming forward. It's unstable, glitchy, like it's foreshadowing the coming Y2K apocalypse.

      It's a very pretty one, that's for sure. I wanted to record the title screen for this video, actually, but the garbled text effect, though very cool, was really intensive on my recording software and made the entire thing unwatchably blurry.

      For a while I'd actually keep it on loop in the background, something about the moodiness of the track really just vibes with me

    the theme of truly wasted potential, where good art direction and music and gameplay concepts and ideas for a story were executed in the worst ways possible.

      how so?

    • @TheFuzzyOcelot
      @TheFuzzyOcelot 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@chippedgoat minigames during battle is a great concept, having to do the same minigames over and over while the game has a chance of softlocking after every attack isn't fun. tweaking every individual stat of your character and gaining lore by leveling up is a great concept, the mind dungeon takes too long and has too much random and important character motivation locked behind it arbitrarily. the idea of a jerk attempting to live out one jrpg plot when a second, world ending jrpg plot comes out of nowhere and its only then he learns he's a jerk is a great idea for a story, but instead of being nuanced the game just has multiple lines that go "you should hate alex if you dont already" and he doesn't learn his lesson until literally nobody from the original cast is around to hear how he's improved and essentia is one of the most boring and annoyingly written characters i've had the displeasure of listening to for literally 10-15 minutes straight. i could go on, but i think you get the point. great ideas ruined by shoddy execution.

    What I hate about YiiK is that despite how awful it is you can see so much potential in it that it just never reaches. It's saddening.

      @@Flesh-smoothie you are actually insane. The game has been painful for me so far, and I got it as a gift from a friend during the summer sale. Everything I do feels like a chore. Combat is slow, saving is slow, the level-up system is one of the most unnecessary ones I’ve ever seen. Every action on the overworld is slow, going indoors, healing, buying things, .etc. Characters overexplain/ repeat the same things in dialogue scenes multiple times it started driving me crazy at the part where Rory finds out about his dead sister, and the characters kept repeating the same things over and over. Why do I have to play a Wario ware mini game for every single type of attack or dodge during combat, it just makes things slow and tedious.

      @@Flesh-smoothie the game frustrates me so much, I actually dread each time I have to play it again. I’m going to beat it eventually, but that doesn’t mean I enjoy my firsthand experience. I know what it’s trying to do, but it feels like it fails at everything it tries to do, or pay homage to. Things just sort of happen, and I have to take long breaks between playing the game to avoid stressing myself out with how it just does everything wrong.
