I was going to travel to work, but those jobs get shutdown once there are cases reported and then I would have additional road expenses and no work. It is still happening on job sites to this day. Employers are held financially responsible for sick employees and choose to shutdown to limit their liabilities.

    Hey Cody, RE: chicken coop. What we have done here in Michigan to keep chickens safe is real simple. Get a roll of 1/2 inch square hole hardware cloth (Chicken wire for you west coasters,) and fold it 90 degrees longways into an "L" shape. Attach the vertical side to the fence around the coop/pen, then stake the horizontal to the ground. Be sure the horizontal side covers about 1.5 feet out from the pen. Then let the grass grow up through the holes.
    It will eventually become part of the lawn, and you will be able to mow right over it. WHEN the varmints come knocking for the chickens and try to dig under the fence, they hit the buried chicken wire and are stopped cold.
    You don't have to kill them, just have to be smarter than them. Us Michiganders tend to be smart. we have a east, west north, and south coast.

    • @feyrband
      @feyrband 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just to be clear so no one mixes up hardware cloth and chicken wire. Chicken wire is usually thin braided hexagon wire netting. Hardware cloth is thicker and has small welded square/rectangles, much stronger (and more expensive). The hardware cloth is essential for windows/openings anything bigger than a mouse or maybe rat could slip or tear through otherwise. Chicken wire is most useful for keeping chickens in or as a very minor varmint deterrent.

    With the tires when they have water in them, find a sturdy post or a tree and swing the tire’s side into the post. And the water shoots out. Hit it on the side, and the water will flow right out! Great trick, and works a lot better than getting out a shop vac.

    Sorry to hear about your chickens. I live in the mountains and have lions, bobcats, fox, etc. around the house every night. I attached the coop to our run, covered the entire thing in 1/4” hardware cloth & put a layer of welded wire over the bottom 4’ of hardware cloth. I built the run with barn poles that go down about 4’ & then attached the frame. I put a 1/4” hardware cloth predator barrier 12-18” down and out about 3’, then filled with gravel and tamped the soil. Solar motion lights all around. So far we’ve kept out multiple lions, bobcats, boar, foxes, weasels, rats, etc.

    Suggestion for Binder and chain organization, run a 1/4" rod through the shelf uprights (nut or bend the ends over) or bolt 1/4"x1" or1/4"x 2" plate to the side of the upright and hook the binders over the rod/plate edge. Trick also works great for organizing hooked sheaves, clevises and ratchet winches.
    With the box of chains, place the chains in one at a time center first and hook the edges of the milk crate, if you do this then you will be able to pull any chain out without removing the others, works even better if you pile each chain length so they don't overlap.

    I’m glad you made that video a while back stating that there would be a second round of shortages due to distributors running out of their stock piles and explaining how it’s getting harder to even find some deep freezers. I live in north Texas and since then, butchers have been back logged up to 6 months. Stores aren’t in too bad of shape down here, but the idiots are clearing the toilet paper out already. Had I not seen that video, I wouldn’t have expected another round of this BS and wouldn’t have been prepared ahead of time. I should be stocked for the next year and in much better shape than I was during the shortages in the spring. Thank you for sharing your findings and expectations for what’s to come.

    The other day I saw you setting your generator up on a high shelf, using a forklift. And it occurred to me that you had "painted yourself into a corner", in that you couldn't use it where it was, and would be dependent on the forklift to get it down.
    The military has a basic policy, about only storing "man portable" gear above floor level.

    Pretty risky task getting those tires up and down from that spot. Just cover them with a tarp outside. Tires are relatively cheap and durable, would hate to see you slip and splat from up there.
    Same goes for that brakeless jalopy forklift. No reason to operate like some 3rd world outfit in India. Fix it or get a new one.
    And if this comes across as bossy or none of my business, fair enough. Sometimes guys need to hear sensible advice that people around them are afraid to give.
    I've seen people get hurt real bad from circumstances less dangerous than yours. You have all the reasons in the world to be as careful as you can. No one will think less of you for being more safety-minded.
