'The Eddie' Hawaii is a big wave surfing competition, a tribute to Eddie Aikau, a Hawaiian surfing legend / lifeguard who's saved countless lives. He unfortunately died in a rescue attempt when a canoe was caught in a huge sea storm and capsized. He paddled towards the canoe on his surfboard and saved everybody on board but he never made it back. He is a fearless hero who would take on the huge waves any day, thus the phrase "Eddie would go" 🤙
