For any youngsters, listen to the whole album that this is from - called The River, released in 1980. It’s a masterpiece of sadness to joyful rock songs.
Woke up this morning and was humming to the tune while brushing my teeth. And now opened youtube and this popped up. Thanks for the christmas gift. Merry Christmas
Justin, thanks for this song instruction. My wife says I listen to so many of your songs, so many times that I should at least invite you over for Christmas. So the invitation stands!!!! 😎✌️🎼🎸
Thanks for sharing Justin. You make it look so easy. I have a question ⁉️ How long have you been playing guitar? I'm 55 and started playing 8 years ago. With bad hands I just do the best I can. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Take care of yourself and your family and stay safe.
finally. a year after picking up the guitar I've finally learned this song watching and practicing with this video q little every day. now I can play it exactly like this and everyone is like wait what!? how can you play so good. what's that song. so they look up The River and are amazed. I always wanted to learn the guitar picked fingerstyle and this song and lesson has taught me to apply it to my playing to really coordinate the strumming while singling out strings during the stroke. one you get it it instantly levels up your skill. amazing song and lesson. next!

Arguably the best guy i've seen giving guitar lessons on Yoitube!!!? But you sure do a heck of a job sir!!! I'm 49 and i don't feel uneasy taking in the stuff you teach! 😁
Merry Christmas Justin, great lesson, hopefully you can do brilliant disguise, in the new year. Btw loving you beginners App... all the best Xmas and the new year 🤘
Seasons greetings Justin and all, I have been trying to learn guitar for the past 3 years, I have learned snippets from your site as well as many other sites that I have bounced around from. I can finally play most chords, still very slow on bar chords though. This lesson seemed to take me to the next level that I have been searching for. You really covered a lot here... write down the chord progression, try to memorize it, strum picking softly and bringing up the sound with full strums. Amazing lesson, thanks so much.
Hey Justin, another great song! I'll start practicing right away! I love your guitar, but unfortunately I can't see what it is. Can you tell me the brand? Greetings from Germany!
It's a Froggy Bottom custom guitar. More info on Justin's guitars here: www.justinguitar.com/guitar-lessons/justin-s-guitars-list-and-info-gg-001| LievenDV | JustinGuitar Official Assistant
Justin I'm able to learn the song fairly easily but I'm not at all satisfied with my rhythm. I have tried to do the counting but it makes everything much harder. Is there any exercise which I should do?
I was having the same problem last night, I had to slow my counting right down and I found it helpful to call the bass note like pluck down on the "E" &2&3&4& "G" &2& etc.
in my mind I was putting all the harmonica parts right in there as you were playing the intro into the verse LOL. happy holidays be safe. 😷 I have to wonder though if that was Bruce on the 12th string or if he was doing that second guitar you were talking about and if the 12 string wasn't getting played by Nils lofgren?
The guitar featured in this video is a Froggy Bottom M Deluxe | read about this guitar (and Justin's other guitars) here: www.justinguitar.com/guitar-lessons/justin-s-guitars-list-and-info-gg-001| LievenDV | JustinGuitar Official Guide, Approved Teacher & Community Moderator
You are seeing / hearing a G chord going to D chord - but Justin quickly squeezes in the words 'D with an F# bass'. In other words it is a slash chord. D/F#. Play a regular D but with 6th string 2nd fret held down to give an F# note in the bass. If you can not form that chord just play regular D. Cheers 😊 | close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide [ www.justinguitar.com/ ] & Moderator on JustinGuitar Forum
Wauw, what a great lesson. It sounds awesome. What guitar and amp are you using? I want to buy such a beautiful guitar. Greetz from holland. I love your lessons.
En al een gitaar gekocht? Ik heb zelf nog nooit gitaar gespeeld maar zou het zo graag eens willen proberen en als het bevalt er serieus in verder te gaan maar ben eigelijk een soort zenuwachtig om überhaupt te beginnen
I hope you see my comment, thanks man I really appreciate your existence i the same universe as me. I truly don't see 2020 as a bad year because of you.

I agree.
And after that go listen to Nebraska if you want to sit down and just think about life
I was introduced to it when I was 8
I was fortunate enough to see Bruce on the River tour in 2016! I felt so thankful to be alive
I am 62 and lived to many verses of sadness.
To,too two...

@@JustinGuitarSongs you too top 👍
I can play all this with the strumming now, that's great progress for me. But I'm lost with the finger picking style - what does he mean by walk up?!
Walk up ... play ascending notes, notes / chords going up in pitch. Cheers 😊

I'm learning that after many years. I learned " Blister in the Sun " and I instinctively could strum it. It's easier if it's a song you really know.
