      I collect the Mirage nd movie lines. I enjoy it, but my biggest complaint is the inconsistency of their colouring in the Mirage line (i.e. going back and forth between IDW and 'classic' colours). I'm an old school Mirage fan, so the classic colours are preferred. But their stuff is great though.

    I got home from work yesterday, 1/10/24 and a big NECA box was at my door. I didn’t get any email notice about it arriving. I forgot what it was. Opened it with my two year old daughter and we had a blast setting it up! Pleasant surprise. 😎👍🏼

    I know I'm repeating something that's been said ad nauseam, but I absolutely didn't order this sewer lair living room because it was $100 overpriced. Even with Trevor saying for the longest (right up until this went up for pre-order) that it should be $250, that was still too much.
    Broke my heart with not being able to afford this thing, 'cause I've been pretty much an unintentional completist with the Turtle lines. Even if I had the money at the time, I absolutely couldn't justify it.

    What would've been perfect is offer a basic version of this large room (with no accessories) for $125, then eventually a smaller room for about $85. Then they could come out with accessory packs to choose your own adventure.
    So for this toon living room pack, about $70/75 sounds right. Keeping things very reasonable, more options, with a price/value that's comparable to the street scene. Like ppl would've bought multiples of these, to use one as a garage for the van, if they were $125 a piece.

    • @ieyke
      @ieyke 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Without the accessories this should've been like $80, and then, yea, people could afford to buy multiple, and it would get people to buy loads of accessory sets to furnish different rooms.
      Make the money on the little detailed stuff to flesh stuff out, not on the big simplistic box.
      If they had made it Billy Bookcase shelf-sized and modular, so you can move the doors around, you could EASILY fill an entire Billy Bookcase with these.
      As is, I get that they made it to go under the street diorama building, but I think they made a mistake there.
      Should've made it fit on shelves......

    • @Chalor.
      @Chalor. 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ieyke
      If this was $80, then the street scene would be less than that; and it's not, with currently being $115. With the street scene selling for $115, $125 is where an empty large sewer room should be. Overall, it's just a bit more plastic, hence the $10 more price tag.

    • @Chalor.
      @Chalor. 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ieyke
      🤣..."Billy Bookcase." I've never heard that term. What's the depth of a regular bookcase, like 11 inches? It wouldn't be deep enough for these sewer lair rooms. I get where you're coming from; like it's all coming from a good place, it's just not feasible. It would've been a very bad idea if they didn't make it the same width as the street scene.
      With the modularity you're speaking of (which I *definitely* prefer over what NECA did), go with the Raman Toys M.U.S.K. It has plenty of modularity and versatility. I just love that you can actually reposition the pipes...and the break-apart wall, and the "sewer water" flowing, and the LED lights. Yeah, super excited to pre-order some of those.

      Like someone else mentioned, it really is a dollhouse lol. I've been going to the dollhouse miniature section at Hobby Lobby for like a decade, so very familiar with adding decorum to your display. I've just yet to have a proper little dolly room to put some of that stuff in. I'll just be waiting on the Raman Toy one, 'cause I couldn't remotely justify the price NECA was charging for theirs.

    • @ieyke
      @ieyke 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Chalor. The Street scene is WAY more substantial than the sewer room.
      If the Street Scene is $125, with all of its walls, and modular windows and door panels, and roofs, and sidewalk, .....the big empty sewer room with just a couple pipes should be $80 at most.

    Hey Dan, Merry Christmas!! Also sir I want to say thank you for a couple of things. The first being back in 2021, when on Easter of that year, that's when I first learned that origins was even a line as id picked up He-Man and Skeletor. So I wanted to learn more about the line, so I looked up TH-cam reviews, and yours came up. I was amazed at both your passion and how great your knowledge was. So after a few of your reviews, and a number of purchases, I was back collecting again. So my first thing I'm thanking you for is helping me. Get back into collecting. And of course your reviews, led to me watching your toy hunt videos, which leads me to the second and most important thank you. Over the summer I spent literally memorial day till labor day in the hospital as I had to have a liver transplant. So since I was out of commission, on the roy hunt end, I was vicariously living through yours, 80s toys roc, and not another retro channels toy hunt videos. And it was the three of you guys in particular, with the fun that you have, in your videos, that helped get me through my recovery, post transplant, so as I told burf, thank you for bringing joy and light into a very dark time for me, and again Dan, a very merry Christmas to you and your family

    8:42 What I ended up getting years ago for my large items too big for bookcases are four of the Parsons desks from walmart. They're nice simple elegant decently sized rectangular black tables/desks, that even feature a well-hidden drawer at the top. Now I have no idea if they still sell these, or something comparable - 'cause man they were great at the time with being around $50 a piece. Another option would be the big black folding tables. Like either the heavy duty plastic kind that fold in the middle, or the ones that are thinner were just the legs fold.

    Calling it a complete sewer “lair” seems pretty dishonest imo. Especially considering that it implies it’s the complete lair and not just the central room. It’s also way overpriced but that seems pretty standard nowadays unfortunately. I think around 200-230ish would be reasonable *if* the additional accessories were included from the other set.

    • @pmgerard

      @@jand8303At $10, you'd have SOME complaints.
      But with the Street Scene being $110 and the Animated Street Scene being $150, I do tend to think $200 (with a TV included) would fit what people were used to paying.
      The exclusion of the TV was such a huge turn off for me as it causes the couch to be pointed at an empty wall without one.
      I'd be fine with the TV with VCR and lenticular screens being exclusive to another set but this IMHO needed a "starter" TV and a lower price at around $200 to psychologically match prior offerings.
      Absolutely you'd have complaints but I think probably half the complaints came from people who'd set aside $200 roughly and were looking at nearly $400 with tax and shipping and an accessory pack for a mandatory TV.

    This looks great and I would have liked to get it. But $300 was well out of my price range. Whether the price was a result of NECA overcharging, or inflation, or because NECA knew this wouldn't sell in high numbers and the factory charged more for lower production quantity - I don't know (and neither does anyone else). But regardless of the reason the result was the same. Nonetheless I might pick it up if they offer it again down the line.

  • @Chalor.
    @Chalor. ปีที่แล้ว +9

    When Raman Toys puts their M.U.S.K. up for pre-order, I'll definitely be getting me my sewer lair - in the toon and movie style colour schemes. For less than $200, you can get the basic 'living room' lair, and it'll be better quality than NECAs; featuring fully sculpted left and right outter sides, LED lights, an area where you can remove the bricks to have Mousers ot whatever burst through, the piping will be modular, etc.
    Yeah, I'll have to wait and see how Ace's toon accessory pack will look compared to NECAs; but regardless it will save me a lot of money, and it's not feeding the corporate greed machine. As much as I love NECA, they get a big _F You!_ with the drastically unjustifiable price they went with.

It looks great but I honestly don't see a reason for this piece to be almost three times the price of their street diorama piece (BBTS PO $115). Sure, it has more display space and a lot of small details (which cost pennies to make) but it feels like $300 would be too expensive even for a crowd funded project.
    To make things worse, if you are DIY inclined you can make a sewer diorama (without the intricate details) for like $25-30 in materials, you need paint, insulation foam and some PVC piping.

    Great dioramas and playsets , even though TMNT is nit my thing I can admire the effort put in those dioramas and how figures look on them . Great video and presentation. Merry Christmas to you and your family and loved ones 🎉

    That foam coat piece is sand down millimeters off of the plumbing so it sits flush. And then maybe you cut command strips into narrow pieces one for each side so it can stay on.

    Bought this set and really happy I did. It is nicely painted and looks great with the street scene and turtles. I originally thought about the Ramen Toys diorama, but they only had renders up. I have been burned too many times by renders that don't match the final product. The extra price for me was worth knowing this would actually be quality. Space has become a big concern and I no longer have room for toys that are anything but great

    Ok so my complaints about this,since it is a diorama for adult collectors mostly i do believe they could use magnetic places for the furnitures and those sticker wall decals as well! Since you giving 300 bucks for it i believe its the best they could do in this! Also since this has the logical price tag as a set,i don't dare to think the one that super 7 will release in a while! 😅 Awesome review as always man thanks for sharing with us and merry christmas and happy new year to all here!

    This is definitely the centrepiece for any Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collectiors like yourself Dan. As you said displaying is the real problem. Maybe this is what a collector wants to rejuvenate their collection which has become boring. Then this could lead to collectiors who are now coming to the and need that one thing to complete everything. That's my take on the whole thing. Great video and I like your honest opinion on this Dan. Got it in time for Christmas so an early gift to yourself, I now that one all too well.
    Merry Christmas to you, the family & everyone else.

    I passed on this due to price and size, but admittedly seeing it all put together with the street scene on top and the Van alongside makes for an impressive display. Growing up I saw a few people with rooms dedicated to model train setups. Now I think that concept is being replaced with TMNT rooms!

      When I say “price” I mean $300 is too much to begin with. To me it is not worth that much. I know things cost more money to produce these days but I think toy manufacturers have gotten greedy. I look for value for my dollar and this ain’t it at $300. Obviously just my opinion. If you’re ok with it then that’s fine for you.

    So like most I skipped this set, just purely out of the price especially for International. But another issue was Neca saying the other two parts of the lair might not be produced.. it was all depending on how well the first pre orders went.. that would determine if they continue with the kitchen and Donnie's Lab. That little information pushed me away further from locking in my pre order. Along with the fact we would need another 1-2 top street scenes to sit above those other pieces to complete the full look. Then I started to think.. when will we see another release for the street scene.. Too many IF's pushed me away and with the price going to be roughly $600-650 CAD with shipping and exchange rates and the 100% customs fee we would get.. there was no way in hell it is worth it. Shame really since it's a piece I was really waiting for..

    It's cool and all but yeah I did try to justify the cost and see how things are budgeted but it's just not worth the price point.
    Not sure why NECA set the price this way.
    Ultimately I passed on this. To be honest, hard to justify the purchase when it's not that essential to my collection.

    As a toy collector myself, and almost finishing my collection of puppet master in tales of the crypt, keeper, toys, and looking into mighty max. It’s hard to justify the $300 price for an incomplete diorama.

  • @ryanhenneberque

    So, I hesitated on this one because of the price, then last-minute decided to go for it, BUT I missed the preorder window by a few hours, so I didn't end up getting one. I still agree with pretty much everyone that this was priced way too high for what it is compared to NECA's usual pricing, BUT if this is the only way we'll get a good Sewer Lair living room playset for the animated figures, I'd be willing to pay their price ONCE. But I wouldn't spend $300 (plus tax and shipping) for further sets like this. They'd have to reduce the price for future sets for me to go in on those. But with that all said, Pixel Dan, do you think NECA will ever give us one more shot at this living room playset? I feel like if they do offer other sets, it would make sense to give people another shot at the first one to encourage buying future sets for those of us who originally passed on this, but now kind of regret that choice. One way or another, I will at least want this living room playset for my collection, whether or not other sets are offered at a reasonable price.

  • @joehodgson9217
    @joehodgson9217 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think this gets the job done, but NECA priced me out on this one. I was hoping for 200 bucks, then NECA said it would be $250 at SDCC and I was disappointed, but still onboard. Then it ended up at 300 and I had to turn it down. No disrespect to NECA, it looks nice, I just don't need it that bad. My only regret is I had purchased the portal accessory with the idea of being all-in on their sewer diorama and now I don't really know what to do with that. I may try to just make one, and I'm keeping an eye on the third party one that's being developed. Great video, good look at this thing and what it can do, and definitely a fair and honest critique as well.

    I'm positive that each time the sewer lair was featured at a convention, the rug was made of a thick rubbery plastic to match the couch & chair. Now it seems NECA have cheapened the rug by making it a mouse pad material.

    11:59 That's _craaaazy_ if there's anyone out there that doesn't know what a mouse/mouse pad is lol. I mean mine isn't wireless, but I get that most ppl have the wireless laser kind; but even with them, you typically use an (ergonomic for your wrist) mouse pad. I just have to remember that most younger ppl don't have proper PCs.

    I know Neca mentioned a second release of the street scene, to be sold at Target. Now the question is do we need more than one to go on top of future add-ons for the Lair. Perhaps they'll make some new toon streets in the future 🤔

    You also ask why are they so big now. I have a theory. I think NECA is trying to make things kinda to scale to us adults who were once kids buying these sets. How big a playmates toy was to a child may be the same idea with the size of the NECA toys to an adult. Just a thought
