this is probably the best “representation” of Carnival and being from the Caribbean I’ve ever seen on video. Watching it, I was smiling from start to finish. It’s full of light, love, community, celebration, fun, freedom and feeling. I have no idea of where exactly they were in Trinidad , or what events took place, but if that’s what Carnival is like every year, I totally get why you keep going back. I love that I saw a little bit of everything- steel pans, the nature (I love seas turtles) the shots underwater, people enjoying themselves at Jouvert, the people on stilts, children enjoying it, celebrities partying with everyone else, the stage shows, people falling in love and everyone enjoying themselves in the moment. Admittedly, if I had any misinterpretations of it being solely sun, skin and sex watching this cleared it up for me-it’s more than people flocking there dressing up in costumes or chipping down the road, it’s a fully formed culture of raving, rapture, respect and reverence for the music, history of what it stands for wrapped up in a week of events that should leave me happier than when I arrived and sad to leave.
Wow. At a time when the world is so heavy, and after the division we felt from the election, this offers a timely reminder of the unique beauty of this country and its people. Congrats. Tremendous work.
