My thoughts on the Sequential Pro 3.......6 months after buying!

  • I thought it would be cool to give a 6-month reaction to synths I buy. I go through a lot of synths and I have to really like them for them to make the 6-month mark! I love this one. Here is a basic walkthrough of how I use it in my production setup! If you arent familiar with the Pro 3, here is a little refresher:

    Hey whats up. How are you feelin about the pro 3 2 years later? Im on the fence about this or the 37. Im def loving the moog sound. You said it didnt play well with your mpc? How so? I wanna get a synth to work with my 2000xl and my 30000. Cool channel and nice vibes btw

      Hey, yea 3 years later I don’t use it as much as I’d like. I actually just rearranged my studio to try to make myself use it more. It has weird midi implementation. I may have a bad one but I don’t know. When I have midi tracks armed small things happen that kinda throw my whole vibe off. Patches changing, notes hanging, etc. I never researched to see if it’s a problem with this one or what. I ended up buying another 37 if that helps or tells you anything.

    I have a pro 3 and a moog matriarch, and I think that these two prevent the need for a subsequent 37 for me. You don't get the multidrive and the specific sound of the subsequent 37 - but you get the moog sound from the matriarch via the matriarch filter that I prefer over the sub 37's filter.

    • @VolcanoBeats
      @VolcanoBeats  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yea that multi drive is nice. The filter is ok, but honestly I have the uad filter that’s pretty spot on the subsequent 37 so I don’t miss that. Matriarch is nice, my only gripe with those are if I’m not gonna have patch memory I might as well buy an old synth, so I love my rogue for the Moog sound and looking at a Sh-02 or 09. I rather go vintage

    I have the Pro 3 SE on the way here. It has the flip up control panel, so I don't think the display location will be a problem for me. Although I admit, I do like the display placement on the Cobalt and Argon synths. I can't wait to play with that tuned feedback.. It seems like I can use it as a fourth oscillator, have it play harmonics like a Subharmonicon. The mad patching in this is dope. I thought the MatrixBrute and PolyBurte were cool, but they are nothing compared to how intuitive the Pro 3 is. You can repatch things quickly while playing live, nothing to look up, no grid to try and read while playing.

    • @VolcanoBeats
      @VolcanoBeats  ปีที่แล้ว

      yea you are right. I would definitely bring the pro 3 on stage and never the other two....I may still get a matrixbrute but im glad i grabbed the pro 3 first!

    I love this synth. The screen down would mean you are covering the screen more if using things higher up, my only gripe is the knobs are stuff, but that is good for being more exact and not accidentally turning them. I think it is the best analog monosynth ever.

    I’m considering selling my Subsequent 37 for a Pro 3.
    I’ll mainly be using it for bass and leads (I make techno / house) just wondering if you this that’s a good / bad idea based on your experience with both?
    All the demos I can find of the pro 3 never go into the bass territory much. It’s hard to know if I’ll be giving something up by selling the moog!
    Thanks again and hope you’re doing ok in these pandemic times.

      @@benjaminalfred4383 Experimenting is good. I bought and sold a ton gear and, sometimes you need to try out some new stuff. You will enjoy the Pro 3 very much, but it can’t touch the Moog Sub in the bass department. A Moog can’t be beat at that. Leads, Fx, other synth sounds are up for grabs.

    • @VolcanoBeats
      @VolcanoBeats  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem, thanks for checking it out. It’s really on the amount of versatility you want. I wanted more than just bass. The Moog is great at bass but all of the modulation options on the pro 3 runs circles around it. If they made a rack version of the subsequent 37 would I buy it again? Yes...but the pro 3 is my jack if all trades right now...and honestly for me personally it worked out phenomenally well...I sold my subsequent and basically traded up to a Juno 106..through buying two other synths and selling them...so for me it was 100% a win

    The Pro 3 does sound like something that I could use, although I have a Korg Prologue that has the 2 VCO's and a digital oscillator as well although it doesn't have the modulation options of the Pro 3. The Sub37 and the Prologue MIDI together and then using the Sub37 modulation on the Prologue sounds is interesting though so that could come close to the Pro 3 if I really wanted to go there but that's not really my style. I like the Pro 3's sound though so maybe...

    • @smartwerker

      Do you run the Prologue through the Sub 37. The Sub has Ext in right??? Please yes and then transpose the Sub 37 down by about -6 semitones
