  • For 30 years, area bikers have been gathering in Philadelphia for the the largest Toy Run in the US and possibly even the world. They deliver toys to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The thousands of bikes passing in this footage you see here goes on for almost 1/2 hour.
Now due to the economy, the city can no longer afford the police overttime needed to support this event. So this may be the end of a proud Philadephia tradition. What's next, the mummers?
For those who have participated in this event in the past, this video taken in front of Finnigan's Wake Pub on Spring Garden Ave is here for you to reminisce about the good times we had.
By the way, if you are fortunate enough to live in state that believes you should have the right to make your own informed adult decision on whether to wear a helmet or not, be sure to thank your local ABATE chapter or other local Motorcycle Rights Organizations for their work in making that possible.

By far my favorite day of the year. If this truly is gone I (and I imagine) along with many others will be forever sad. There are just too many things that make this the best run anywhere, ever. I don't have a good feeling since I don't see any news and Nov. 2011 is approaching.
After so many years, there is no way I won't be down on Delaware Ave at 9am on that first Sunday in Nov. this year. 1 boys gift, 1 girls gift as usual.

Great run! They all were great runs and for a GREAT cause. I've also seen conflicting information as to why these runs are no longer happening. Wish I could justify the reason to take this experience from the Christmas spirit and from the children. Is St. Christopher's Hospital for Children an option???
