Most stageplay adaptations of anime and games are pretty good. I think it's because Japan doesn't shy away from the weirdness of it and leans into it whenever it can. Seriously; Ace Attorney, Yakuza, Pokemon, Love is War, Bleach, One Piece, Gintama. All cheesy and yet great because of it.

I love how they had Jeremy Jordan be the one to sing Light’s songs in English as I consider myself a fan since he voiced Varian in the tangled show, played Winn in supergirl and recently voiced Lucifer in Hazbin Hotel.
When I found out that Lucifer and Light were the same singer, I was so shocked. "Where's the Justice?" is one of my favorite musical songs of all time.
Let me guess: Did you hear it in a fan made animatic for Good Omens? I know that’s where I first heard it and it’s how I first learned there was a Death Note musical. My mind was also _blown._
Me as well. I'v been obsessed with the Japanese play ever since I discovered it. I finally got the CD from that on ebay. but I wish it had the whole play on it. I would sell my soul for a DVD of the play, too. Thanks to it, I discovered more Japanese plays too. Glad Day reminded me to check out the Korean version too.
I haven't watched this yet. But I hope they changed the ending. One of the books had a really great alternate version idea where L sacrificed his life by writing his own name in the death note secretly and scheduled it a month or something away so that when Light tried to write his, it didn't work.

Wildhorn is officially my favorite Musical theater composer. I have been obsessed with Jekyll and Hyde (Warlow version, of course) and - upon hearing about his having written a musical after my favorite Anime - was suddenly all the more grateful to its composer. My sister and I are both incredible fans. The man's absolute legend.
As a big fan of death note the musical made me an even bigger fan. Netflix should have just recorded this and saved all that money they spent on the bad live action movie. Oh man this might be my fav musical

The creative team of last year’s London production of Death Note are doing a production of one of Wildhorn’s other anime musicals, Your Lie in April, next month. I really hope there’s a production of his Fist of the North Star musical soon. I also hope the Death Note London Cast Recording that was recorded is released soon.
One fact you didnt mention is that Lights father in the musical is the same Japanese actor who plays Lights father in the original Japanese live action films.
I was already a fan of Death Note when I found the musical, but like you said, I thought they did a masterful job streamlining the plot for a two-and-a-half hour runtime. Awesome video!

So that's why you were here last year! I had known about this from one of the streamers I follow on Twitch but I didn't expect those two independent events to be connected. You have given me enough reasoning to try to go and see it. I'll keep an eye out if/when I can.
I ended up recreating a few of the instrumentals for anyone to use. They’re on my channel and got a pretty decent amount of views. I’ll eventually be completing the tracklist by the end of this year.

I didn’t know about Death Note in London though I do get a lot of ads for Spirited Away in London. It was definitely strange to see the premise of a Japanese anime adapted for the UK stage but I was tempted to see it if I had the money.
11:56 In the English version, as I have a recording of the London shows, the Task Force get their own song before the Reprise of Where Is The Justice, which is a Reprise of Change The World. I can’t remember if they are specifically names as Matsuda, Aizawa etc but in the script they are called that.

I've been obsessed with this ever since I found it and thanks to it, I also discovered Elizabeth in Japanese which expanded my world too. I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but I think that when Light takes out L, that would have been good enough ending point, not to say the whole second half of the series was bad, it just feels like there was a set end point but someone somewhere said "I don't like that, end it a different way" or something like that.
The mangaka referenced that in their following serialized manga Bakuman. Basically Death Note was too popular, and the editor/publisher wouldn't let them end the series. At least that was how I interpreted it. Personally, I think the Japanes live action movies handled the ending the best.

I felt that Ren's love for Misa in the anime comes across more as motherly, whike the manga does lean in a bit more from motherly to romantic but, yeah, not as much, which personally made it more tragic because Ren never gets to clearly understand her "human emotions".

I love the songs, but seeing them on the stage leaves some stuff to be desired. That’s one reason why I think an animated adaptation of the musical would be perfect. You can be insanely inventive with animation, which is what I believe these songs deserve.

@@michael13849 I actually tried making that myself, but it didn't work out because of the differences in timing and sentence structure. Even how it's presented in this video was highly edited. Lots of moments were sped up and slowed down to fit with the flow.

What if you write your own name in the death note but then write your time of death like 3000 years in the future? Even if it doesn't work and you die at your normal time of death, would it still give you invincibility against the deathnote from anyone else?
The death note cannot extend someone's life. So if you set a date for after someone's death it won't do anything. It stands to reason that if someone else uses the Death Note on you after you have written your own death that whoever's death is shorter is the one that happens

The death note musical is something I was always jokingly interested in and I decided to finally watch and I was surprised how much I was into it. I don't think it stands up musically to something like dear even Hanson, but seeing something ive loved and has been a huge part of your life (death note was the first anime I fully watched and is still in my top 5) be lovingly adapted so well actually made me emotional when watching it. It's something I haven't really felt since watching the Harry Potter movies as a kid.
