Watching this superb footage brings back so many memories for me. Born in Liverpool in 1947 I travelled on the 6/6A many times from the Court Hey stop to the Pier Head. 1d 'Scholars Return' and seeing the last tram on its final reurn journey from Bowering Park is still so vivid in my memory after all these years. Thank you to Alf, the film maker and also for the excellent descriptive narration.
Just breathtakingly good. The biggest respect to all involved. Historically priceless footage with a sympathetic/informative commentary. Made my night. Thank you.
What lovely memories, I lived not far from the overhead rail I used it every week, As we lived in Chatham Close. It was a sad day that the line was closed 😪
Baby Grand tram 245 still survives over the water in Birkenhead at the fantastic Wirral Transport Museum where it is back in operational condition running between the Museum premises in Taylor Street and the ferry terminal at Woodside.
The most amazing working workshop circa 1950 and the guys who run it just blow you away with their enthusiasm and commitment. I went there with my kids 12 years ago and they still talk about it.
Great bit of archive filming. I still think the former Liverpool Overhead Railway should have been kept open and subsequently modernised as it would have been an excellent tourist attraction in Liverpool nowadays what with the regeneration of the famous waterfront and docks in the city.
we owe more than gratitude to you alf i am sorry i never met you but i will hope that this film gives the memoies back to the people who desever it and stabilizes them from the ups and downs of life, with my heart felt thanks and a friend who has died thank you very much .tramp lol give ishra a hug fom me.

I remember it sat next to the Green Godess in Edge Lane in the 70s
Can remember going on a Liverpool tram when I was 4. Refused to catch a bus from Central Station to Pier Head, insisted on waiting for a tram.
MY GREAT AUNT ROSE WORTHINGTON WAS A CLIPPIE ON 6A TRAM AND THEN THE BUSES RIP ROSY

Made a bleak afternoon brighter. 😊

I knew Alf and used to go with my dad to help restore the last Green Godess in Edge Lane which is now in Criche Yorkshire.
Change .....lots of it for the better...having work essential....lots of run down beautiful buildings and streets...we need to keep our identity 🌟
No Trams to Lime Street? (The title of a television play from many years ago).
Amazing, they scrap it all only to find out when they want to put it back again, it's going to cost 100's of millions. Short sighted!
I totally agree with you. if Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Birmingham can have trams why not Liverpool?
No irritating background music!!
Go to Flickr and look for Liverpool's Last Tram on STVC's photostream. And thanks, Alf!
Liverpool need the trams bk as the city is always congested.
Doesn’t Liverpool have metro?
Lucrative speculation, in-out-in ;)
Can't believe they burnt those trams!
Suzanne Manley in 50s they were seen as obsolete and uncomfortable piece of scrap metal
amazing! you have a perfect transport infrastructure. and then you scrap it all .... why?
Would take a fortune, if they ran now
were has are hritage gone priceless
