Thank you so VERY much for taking the time to post this video. It solved my problem and all is working as it should. By the way, I'm Dennis. ( Dionysios). Thanks again.
For those looking for the latest in DIY headtracker hardware, there is a very updated firmware and configurator available now. It is much easier to set up than the old arduino version. This one uses a modern all -in-on Arduino BLE board .. which includes Bluetooth! And it gets better, the firmware can output wirelessly over Bluetooth into any of the Frsky-Para (bluetooth trainer port) enabled OpenTx firmware radios (can also use cables into any ppm trainer port radio). I just built one of these headtrackers today, and the hardware was about $20 and can run off vcc from your goggle's battery, like 5-20 volts. google 'RCgroups FPV head tracker single board'
@@Painless360 very interested yes! I just built mine for bluetooth ops and the build is very easy, with 3d printed case, a little button and a barrel connector. Soldering, flashing and calibrating took maybe 15 minutes. But what is hard to figure out is getting radios updated to bluetooth and choosing firmware for the radio to enable Para bluetooth trainer port. I tried soldering the bluetooth module into my T16 and failed, but I want to try it again for my old XLite now.
nice... I have them actually on a switch on the radio too so that when the switch is off the camera is centered for takeoff/landing. switch in the middle is pan on a knob, and down is the head tracker.
Just got a trinity module that I'm planning to use with DJI and a Jumper T16 but wasn't quite sure how to set up the trainer thingy, so this couldn't have come at a better time! Thanks!
Yes please....an update to a DIY headtracker would be good stuff....Thanks I did build one way back when and had it working on the bench but never got around to installing in an aircraft. Still on a list of things to do.......
Hi Mr. P Great video on headtracker. I just finished setting up a headtracker for my Spektrum radio and Skyzone goodies. I'm using a trinity gimbal and a older Spektrum radio so it took me a bit to get working. I used a Caddx Ratel and A TBS UNIFY race edition mounted on the side. I did have to remove the button switch from my trainer button and then soldered a normal on/off switch from one of the gear to be able to turn off/on as I want. When off the camera will go back to forward facing. Thanks for the information.
Thanks Lee, I have build some DIY ones with no problems and also got the Quanum one to, but never used them, also noticed that many builders had some trouble with the DIY ones, so a how to video would be very helpful for many I think. Cheers ;o)
Awesome video, and chance you could do a video explaining how to make it so when a switch is in one position it uses the head tracked input from the trainer, but when the switch is in a different position it uses the sliders to control the pan tilt channels. If this is even possible. Thanks
Setup the mixes for all the things you want and then add a switch to all of them, or use flight modes... See my videos on those topics.... Best of luck
Watched several of you videos on LiPo and chargers as well as the one on connection them together. Perhaps I missed in there but I need a s6, I have 2 x s3 3000 c50 LiPos. I want to join them in series and then connect them to my D2 charger (just to confirm out put etc, I will use a multi meter first though), do you plug both balance cords in or will it read the balance though either balance cord for both batteries? Thanks in advance. Have a great day. So close to having my Glow Eagle 63 switched to Elec motor. Jeff
Thank you for summarizing the knowledge in a clear and clever way! I have a question that none have asked. I think: :) How to mix TX16S in order to have a switch which changes the sources for the channels for pan and tilt, from headtracker input/PPM/Trainer port (Ardu BLE) to S1 and S2 and vice versa. I've setup CH7 - Pan/CH8 - Tilt. Source is TR7 and TR8 and it's good, but before I had headtracker sources was S1 and S2, which is also convenient. It would be nice to be able to choose from where to control the gimbal. Currently I'm stuck on CH7 - Pan/CH8 - Tilt - Source TR7 and TR8 and CH11 - Pan/CH12 - Tilt - Source S1 and S2 on a SD switch which disables channels 7/8 when 11/12 are active and vice versa, but cannot set two different channels in Arduplane to control one and the same gimbal axis, which isn't the case for elevator and other inputs, so there isn't enough info :) I'll appreciate any advice or walkaround :) Thank you again!
Just found a solution and will leave it here, no matter how noob it was. If you need to select two different sources for one channel, copy the mix then paste it after the channel and change the source of the sub-mix to whatever you want. Put the mix dependent on some free of channels switch on tx to switch between sources. This way I can witch between headtracker and pots for pan/tilt control :) Thank you :) Yahoooo
How do you get it to work with your DIY headtracker?? I've tried everything in this video and in other videos but it still won't work. My TX16s is running EdgeTX 2.5 so i don't know if that makes a difference. Thanks for any help!

Hi Lee, Very informative video. However, I'm new to Edge TX and am using 2.8. I'm trying to set up head tracking on two channels and don't see TR in the source list. Is there something else I need to add to see that source? Jim
Great video lee.. I have a question about opentx though. I have a gimbal that stops when the stick input is centered but the gimbal doesnt re-center, so with a headtracker i would have to go back to center to stop the gimbal moving. Is there a way in opentx to make the output stop when my head stops and? eg. pan stops at 1500 and doesnt center back. but my head tracker would be outputting 1700 or something? hope this makes sense
What if you want to use headtracker input sometimes, but other times use one of the stick inputs? For example, if I want the rudder stick to control pan normally, and then activate headtracker via a switch. does that automatically disable the rudder stick input or is it combined with the headtracker input? For a ground vehicle I have pan/tilt on the rudder/throttle stick. So I would like to make sure the rudder/throttle inputs are disabled when the headtracker inputs are enabled.
Yep, easy to do in OpenTX. Check out the Opentx mix school series for how to set it up.. The one called 'changing channel outputs via switches' would be a good one. Best of luck
