Thank you so much for this video! ❤❤ Simplification is the thing I struggle the most. Often I am drawn to a photo but complexity of it stops me before I even start painting.
Hi Louise 😊 I struggle a lot with simplifying subjects and knowing what to include or leave out. This was super interesting and helpful, thank you! 😊😊😊
I'm so glad. Thank you Sarah.
Thanks. I've been curious to try watercolour correctly. This channel is gold!
Your weekly videos contain a wealth of information. They are exceptionally well structured and professionally produced. Thank you so much! 😍
This is maybe one of the most useful videos I've watched. It's one thing I struggle with. Thank you!!
Thank you, Louise.
Your instructions are always so valuable and I appreciate your kindness very much!
Hi Louise! Thank you for the video! Excellent! 😊 Very inspirering to see your way of preparing for a painting. I also need to draw, before I start to paint. I also test the colours I'll be using both for mixing and amount of water I have to add.
This was so detailed and helpful Louise. Thank you! I love the idea of “mentally painting” as a way to plan.
I love your beautiful & video ❤❤❤
Louise, this was a very interesting and helpful tutorial. Thank you so much! Helene
Thank you Helene.
Some great tips from you Louise thank you it has been very helpful for me xx
You are by far my favorite watercolor techer. The triple threat. Brilliant, inspiring, and easy to listen to!
Thank you, thank you THANK YOU Louise.... I have been in an artists block for almost 2 years now, I started painting during lock down and got reasonable at it. After doing my best picture which ended up on our wall... that was it, Its like the life went out of me haven't done a picture since, I stumbled on to one of your TH-cam videos and it is like you have re-ignited my passion to paint, though I feel like I am starting from scratch again, I am just following one of your skillshare lessons. But anyway, didn't want to bore you with a long message, so just a big thank you and oodles of appreciation for getting me started again.
Kindest regards
Mark from the UK
This was so so helpful Louise! When I do my line drawings on Procreate, I tend to try and get every detail. It makes so much sense to simplify the drawing. It will make it easier to just enjoy the painting process. Thank you so much! 😊 ❤
Glad it was helpful. Thank you. ❤️
❤️❤️❤️ your outtakes!
Oooooh! Love your ideas. I do get complicated with lots of light layers and small brush strokes. Good reminders here.
I love your work and how you do your video's. Your outtakes at the end make me LOLOL. I don't know if I am advanced enough to do your tutorials but I'm going to join Patreon in January and see! You won me over with the daschund painting from 2 years ago...I learned so much from that one. Thanks for being genuine and encouraging, it is a great approach.
Thank you very much Sue. I look forward to painting with you!
Thank you so much Louise for your helpful and generous guidance. This video is a top learning tool.
All your videos are wonderful and I must say that your beautiful blouse also looks like a watercolor lol
This video was so helpful Louise!! You broke it down into necessary and not necessary, which explained it perfectly for me. Just what I was looking for! 😊
Muchas gracias, Louise, por ser una gran maestra y transmitirnos sus conocimientos.
Un afectuoso saludo.
I appreciated the information here. Thank you. Once you have simplified your outline, how do you get it onto a larger format piece of paper? I’d love to do a larger painting
Funnily enough I was thinking about exactly this at the beginning of the week during another tutorial. Thank you for clearing the mists!
Thank you Louise....you are wonderful ❤
Saludos cordiales y gracias!
Great video ... entertaining but very instructive and inspiring ... as always.
wonderful!
In particular, the reflection of the bird and cow pictures on the water surface is outstanding!
We are rooting for you from Japan!
Thank you dear Louise, this has been very helpful. I tend to include way to many details and then lose my focal image. But just following you is still my very best route! 😂
Ahahaha !!! Endings were top, Louise !!!!
Gracias amiga! Un sincero saludo desde mi querida Argentina ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Will try to simulate
So helpful, thank you!
Louise, I recently discovered you/ your channel. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, for all your hard work, making these videos for all of us. THANK you for your precious time, and thank you for explaining in such detail, we appreciate it so very much. I don’t know if you ‘ve already mentioned the kind of brushes you use, but if you haven’t, would you please tell us what you use? Thank you. 🌻
I'm fascinated to see how many other artists trace subjects for line work. I typically try to avoid doing that because I worry it would make me an imposter of an artist; a fraud....but I'm seeing more that people find this to be a valid practice (as long as you're not straight up copying the reference entirely)
Loved the video btw 🖤
Thank you. Very helpful
Glad to hear that. Thank you Kathryn.
Very beautiful my dear friend and artist ❤
Another amazing video from THE best tutor … quick question- you’re using Lightroom for the drawings? I use it (basically !) for photo editing - but how do you use it for ‘sketching’ over a photo?
Thank you for making things so much simpler and less intimidating ❤ (and for all your hard work)
Gosh, very helpful! Were you using a computer program to make your line-choosing clearer for your viewers or do you usually use it for your initial drawings? I’ve never thought to do a digital outline drawing first and then transferring it to paper, but it’s actually brilliant, especially for hyper realism.
Thank you Louise! What a great way to simplify. There are so many photoshop apps. Do you have any suggestions?
I use Photoshop and others recommend Gimp. I'm not sure about any others.
Loving your videos, complete beginner, sorry for the basic question but can you tell me do you use a pencil for your sketches and what pencil is this and also do the pencil lines then show through the final painting? Thank you! 😊😊
I’m new to water color. What tablet do you to create line drawings
What pencil do you use? A 3hd?
Sooo helpful!! You my not consider yourself a master at watercolor (👀 many would disagree!), but there is no denying you are a master at teaching!! 💜
Thank you very much Linden. I'm glad it's helpful to you.
Do you tend to draw in Photoshop?
Confused about your line drawings for watercolor. You are transferring your Photoshop outline of the reference photo to your watercolor paper? If so, then seems that that's not an original freehand drawing. I am a beginner with watercolor with some experience with drawing.
Hi, I mentioned at the start of the video that you’ll see me using photoshop to speed things up - so you don’t have to sit and watch me physically draw. I don’t use photoshop when I make my line drawings. Thanks.
0:30 just gonna leave this comment.
Super helpful video. Coincidentally, I have been working out how to simplify my drawing and painting. Perfect timing for me. I checked out your Patreon list of online lessons and am very impressed. I intend to join soon. Thank you for your excellent work.
