Way of Kings literally fixed my suicidal thoughts. The depiction of depression was so realistic, it felt like Sanderson knew what he was talking about unlike so many other pieces of fiction that have themes of depression and suicide
Thank you for sharing that and I’ve heard so many similar things about how depression is depicted in way of kings so even more of a reason to like sando!
Actually he KNOWS what he is talking about, his kid is depressive and he studied it and wanted to help him, thats how he can write so good about the mental state and depression in itself. He also studies all kind of condition before writing about them.

The reason I personally enjoy books more is because I feel way more connected to the characters and I feel like I actually live in their world, whereas in shows and movies I only feel like a spectator, which makes sense. Also if you watch a movie or a show based on a book or more, if you love a character you can enjoy more content of them in the book and know more about them!
@@superchinmayplays hm depends on the imagination. I also connect way more with characters in books, books touch me often on a much more deeper emotional level. I had a similar experience this summer. I needed something of more substance than the trash short form content I’d been consuming, so I went to a second hand book store and picked up a couple titles that looked interesting. Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy kicked off my revived love for books. Not only is it immensely enjoyable to be immersed in a great book, but I think books change the way the one thinks, speaks, and writes. You appreciate detail more, and you’re given more words to describe what you think, feel, and see. If sitting down and reading is difficult for you initially, try audiobooks. Works great for busy people who need to multitask or those who struggle with their attention span. It’s also great for those with dyslexia.

Been reading and listening to the book 11/22/63 by Stephen King and it made me realize that books dont need to be boring. It really is true with how books allow for more depth and detail. Highly reccomend that book btw
I actually started reading again back in December last year by getting into TTRPGs as a GM and I've been reading pretty regularly thanks to this and it's been great
Most underrated creator. This is probably the best TH-cam video I’ve seen in a while. I’m excited for what you post in the future. I’ve always read casually here and there, but I’ve only started reading more intensely just a few months ago. I will definitely give Way of Kings a try. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!
The way of kings is like the one hook you think will be boring at first glance, just to be proven wrong by the first chapter like omg it's like a drug you will never stop once you pick up.Great video btw
This video could not have been any more relatable to my life. Reading pulled me out of a deep rut last year. I started with red rising. It literally revived me like narcan. Since then, no other book has had the same impact on me as the Stormlight archive. That’s CRAZY
I always wanted to get into books, frequenting the book store looking at all these books I wish I could read but just couldn't. But then I saw it glimmering in it's purple covering. A shattered plane of stained glass, over it reading mistborn. I remembered a few weeks back scrolling through tiktok watching someone make a review of fantassy books they liked, and the one he gave nearly the highest rating was that same book in that same color but I scrolled past thinking I might read it later but probably not. But today it was sitting right in front of me, begging me to buy it and just read some of it even though I knew i'd never finish it. I started reading it and finished it in 10 days. I became addicted and bought a bunch of other branderson books that i'm still reading. Branderson really brought into the world of reading as he's done for you. the story's and characters are so intriguing.
This is the same way that I grew back into my love of reading, I was so bored of playing the best games and watching the best rated shows and no shit my brother gave me mistborn and it got me back into reading, I’m obsessed with the stormlight archive now. Brandon Sanderson made reading fun for me again.
I consumed all the cosmere in 3 months, The Way of Kings really brought me back full force into reading after YEARS of not picking up a book. I'm now halfway through the Red Rising saga, and might pick up Robin Hobb next! :D
Totally agree. If you want to get into reading, Red Rising is 100% a great place to start. It’s a beautiful story of vengeance, revolution, war, love, grief, brotherhood, hope and redemption. If you’re struggling to find the light in the darkness, these are the books for you.
I used to read a lot up until high school, and just got back into it after like 8 years of not really giving a shit about it. I didn't hate reading I just thought it was inferior to visual media. Then, after watching Game of Thrones for the second time I got an inch to read the books too, even bought the whole series all at once so I'd be more invested and actually finish it. Of course, after just a few chapters, I was hooked better than any other book I've ever read. The complexity of the characters and story is much easier to understand when given inner dialogue, and entire paragraphs of backstory and lore were present whereas the show had no room for. I loved it so much I also read the guidebooks and the spinoff novellas. Now I mostly just listen to audiobooks while I work, going through classics I've always wanted to read like Dracula.
I had the exact same thing with got. I was hesitant cuz I’d seen the show but then realized the books were so different and fell in love with the writing style
ive been feeling a lot of reading burnout and i started the malazan book of the fallen series and that YANKED me right out of my slump. reminded me why i love reading
I love reading, but for some reason, I tend to drop it all the time. At the start of the year, I finished Astrophysics for People in a Hurry and The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs, and I'm reading Quantum Theory Cannot Hurt You(I think this is the english name) right now. Highly recommend all of them as a fantasy fanboy.
I’m sorry, but I have to ask. Have you read Shadow Slave by Guilty3. Because your channel’s name and Your love of books makes me think so. If not, you should definitely read it, it’s one of my favorite books of all time and deserves more attention than it has. On an unrelated note, this was an amazing video and it was clearly made by someone who truly enjoys reading!
Love the video! I think this might be my call to finally pick up The Way of the Kings instead of continuing to put it off until I meet my demise. I don't want to force you to read anything, but I think you'd love the Hyperion Cantos if you haven't already read them. I recently just finished the first book and I'm almost half way through the second, and the world building is excellent, and like you talked about in the video, a lot of the characters fall into the grey area of morally acceptable. It doesn't necessarily have all of the classes and the big hierarchies of other sci-fi's, but I think it is a book that everyone should read at least once in their lifetime, and, speaking from my own experience, its one that once you start it, you can't put it down. Again, love the video, keep it up, and I'm looking forward to seeing what excellent videos come next!
I began reading ASOIAF from my senior trip at New York, after I wanted to read them from its tv series. So far, I'm loving each character's adventure and conflicts, but pretty much different I know that the show strayed some of its fashion, I was choosing inspiration for enamoring of creating fantasy, and Game of Thrones changed my perspective. On the other hand, more shows and literature continues to inspire me to try and learn from my mistakes.
I came back to reading because of Way of Kings too. Two of my friends were annoyingly trying to convince me to try it by saying "read the first chapter, To Kill, if you don't like it, it's okay". I read it and it blew my mind. Since february I've read Stormlight 1, 2 and 3, Warbreaker, Elantris, Edgedancer, Dawnshard, Emperor's Soul, Dungeon Crawler Carl 1, Roadside Picnic and I'm probably missing something. I never read this much in my life, not even in college. And now I can't stop watching videos on books and can't wait to start other series like Malazan, Black Company, The Expanse books, and of course Mistborn.
Some other books to check out: Redwall, Divergent, The Giver if you weren't made to read it already, and His Dark Materials. His Dark Materials is a series, but sometimes you can get them all in one book. The books are as following: The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. I have not finished Divergent but I have read all the others. In the case of redwall, it is a massive series, I think it has 13 books. I recommend The Giver and His Dark Materials as the best I have ever read, although they do use more advanced grammar. Thank you.
I love love LOVED this. My whole channel is dedicated to the love of words, so believe me when I say I get it. I'm a fantasy nerd at heart, and still am, but in the last three years I've fallen in love with reading the classics. I'm a little over 1/2 way through War and Peace right now and trade one chapter for a comic; this way I create a nice smooth pace between reading comics and manga while keeping up with my "book books". Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see more
I love the classics!(sometimes) I’ve been trying to balance reading historical books with fantasy novels and manga haha so it’s been a lot. Thank you so much and I subbed to your channel as well 🙌
Picked up reading last year. Read Red Rising books and realized this shit is very cool haha. On book 3 of the stormlight archive rn. Look forward to reading each day now
Red Rising by Peirce Brown brings me to tears when i read it. It reminds me of so much we should allowed to be, and how unfair our society is. ((HOLY SHIT i wrote this ENTIRE comment while you were talking about Way of Kings and before you even MENTIONED IT!! I nearly just choked as you mentioned it as i was about to press send)) ❤
I had this experience a couple weeks ago (minus the escaping of brain rot), when I decided to read Project Hail Mary! Words cannot explain how peak the experience of reading that book was - and I’ve already read another book since - so perhaps you could call it life changing 😂! Definitely going to add Red Rising onto my, to read list - sounds super cool!
I had the same experience this year. At the beginning of the year I decided to read Dune, which had been sitting on my shelf for 3 years, because of the new movie that was coming out. At that point I hadn't read a book in 4 years because school made me bitter towards literature. It took me a month to read Dune, but I actually loved it. Ever since then, I have been reading more of classic literature and I recently started reading The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy. I just finished The Two Towers recently. I really feel that reading has changed me.
I had watched your other videos and this was the only one remaining and I'm in awe and shock cause I'm currently reading Way of Kings😱 No wonder I fell in love with your videos cause we seem to have very similar taste!!📚
I got into Stephen King through audiobooks somewhat recently. Love his work. Need to finish the Dark Tower series I’m on book 5. Also recently read 11/22/63 and it is a masterpiece.
@@NephisTV You should it’s fantastic. I need to get back into the audiobooks I just haven’t been in an audiobook mood lately. Not cause the books are bad, they are amazing but sometimes I just listen to other stuff.
You should try the bound and the broken by Ryan Cahill. Saying that it’s underrated would be an understatement. As a Sanderson fan myself, I think you’ll enjoy it very much.
If you liked "the way of kings" and the stormlight archive this much i would suggest you read, from the same author, "mistborn" and "warbreaker". Mistborn in particular will hook you and warbreaker in conjunction with stormlight archive will give you a new vantage point on the macroplot. Personally i stared at the air agape for a good 10 minutes after finishing these two because of the links and theories about the whole story
I was forced to read during high school. We had a program called accelerated reader and it was a huge part of your English grade. It made me hate reading very much. When I lost the rest of my vision, I wanted to give reading another try. Turns out it's really amazing. I started with Mistborn.
i stopped reading right after college but I've picked up the habit again recently, it's amazing how vivid your brain can interpret the words in front of you. great vid, also Black star pfp? subscribed 🙂↕️
Lmao idk if I should laugh or be terrified. Earlier today I decided that I wanted to get back into reading. I went to my bookstore and decided I’ll pick out one of the spotlight books that they have for each genre. I get to fantasy and it had The Way of Kings in its spotlight I got impatient of browsing and decided to buy it since I like fantasy
@@NephisTV Last parts of it were good but I feel like half of the info in the book wasn’t necessary. If the rest are like this I’m not sure I’m going to last for 4 more book 💀
Aside from rulebooks for tabletop roleplaying games and maybe like 1 Diary of a Wimpy kid book when I was a little kid, I've never read a full book since I was like 11 and I don't thing I ever will. I really feel like school ruined reading reading for me more than most. When I was late into the 4th grade I was really stressed from a lot of terrible family drama and I had to move state, and I was literally homeless for a time. Then when I got into school, we had to do these reading logs which was basically homework everyday including every school break. I was stupid and didn't just lie about it like most kids did so I was almost always the only stupid to never fill in my reading log, so the teacher would punish the whole class almost everyday specifically because of me which caused a lot of bullying until I graduated elementary school. What made it worst is that my mom took me out of school absolutely entirely until I went into an adult education program to get my GED at 18-19. I'm not trying to deflect blame onto anything, but I'm just speaking of my experiences and how I believe they've psychologically effected me.
Thank you for sharing I would definitely understand if you had a not so great relationship with books because of this. This video was more about providing that final nudge or sparking a small interest that could be nurtured later on
My gf got me into reading novles. I use to read manga, mythologies, and history, but now I've been reading more literature asoiaf always been part of my life for a while, and after reading King arthur and game of thrones I can't quit.
I think what's great is even if you don't like reading with audibooks it's still possible to experience these stories sometimes even in a better format was able to get someone I know into these stories by having them listen to six of crows on audible. And recommending one of the most depressing series I've read as a first book thats cold 😂 loved red rising but couldn't continue having such a long book series just keep hitting you emotionally for so long couldn't do it
No one makes me connect with fictional characters more than Stephen King. Sometimes I get so attached and involved in their small town lives that I forget I'm even reading a book. Feels like I'm drinking at the bar with my friends or sitting in the backyard having a family barbecue with my close relatives.
I've started reading for the first time a year ago. The books I've completed in that time are stormlight 1-3, mistborn 1-2, the wheel of time 1-2, and the sun eater series by Christopher Ruocchio books 1-6. Please if you like sci-fi read sun eater. It was so good i couldn't stop reading it.

I’ve always read casually here and there, but I’ve only started reading more intensely just a few months ago. I will definitely give Way of Kings a try. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!
THANK YOU FOR THIS COMMENT. Wow very kind of you haha I’m working on the next one as we speak
Wilddd! Glad you found this video
I fuckin love reading man.
This is the same way that I grew back into my love of reading, I was so bored of playing the best games and watching the best rated shows and no shit my brother gave me mistborn and it got me back into reading, I’m obsessed with the stormlight archive now. Brandon Sanderson made reading fun for me again.
Mistborn is so good, that ending to the second book gave me goosebumps
Life before death, Radiant.
I consumed all the cosmere in 3 months, The Way of Kings really brought me back full force into reading after YEARS of not picking up a book. I'm now halfway through the Red Rising saga, and might pick up Robin Hobb next! :D
You got great taste I’ll add that to my list too
I would also recommend the wheel of time series. It can be long and a drag at times but I found it very entertaining nonetheless.
The Red Rising series got me back into reading back in January. So far I’ve devoured 42 books this year because of it!
That’s amazing! Also I love the blue lock pfp
Totally agree. If you want to get into reading, Red Rising is 100% a great place to start. It’s a beautiful story of vengeance, revolution, war, love, grief, brotherhood, hope and redemption. If you’re struggling to find the light in the darkness, these are the books for you.
Until you get to dark age hahahahaha
@@elog11 That is true lol. But it definitely makes Light Bringer all the more better and special.

Yeah I’m definitely checking this out I’ve heard too many good things
If you can get through the 8 million pages of character and world building Way of Kings really does slap.
This is the most hype trailer for books
Thank you!
Way of Kings is indeed glorious. Anything by Brandon Sanderson is just really good
I’m sorry, but I have to ask.
Thank you so much! And yeah the name is from shadow slave I love the book
Hadn’t read in years and got back into it by listening to the wheel of time on audio, haven’t looked back
That’s my next read
Thank you so much, and I’ll definitely check out Hyperion cantos I’ve been looking for more sci fi so that works wonderfully
my best friend called me a nerd for years cs i loved reading fantasy. I gave him the book Eragon and i got him hooked lol
I have to read Eragon!
What a great reading journey! Keep going🙌
Some other books to check out:
Redwall, Divergent, The Giver if you weren't made to read it already, and His Dark Materials. Thank you.
Hot take : reading is actually fun, school gave us the wrong things to read.
Thank you so much and I subbed to your channel as well 🙌
you earned yourself a sub, great video and right thoughts. I'm trying now to replace doom scrolling with reading and you video was definitely helpful!
School made us hate learning.
Picked up reading last year. Read Red Rising books and realized this shit is very cool haha. On book 3 of the stormlight archive rn. Look forward to reading each day now
Life before death🫡
Thanks.
"Life bevor Death". Stay strong my Radiance.
Hahaha you got good taste
I had this experience a couple weeks ago (minus the escaping of brain rot), when I decided to read Project Hail Mary! Words cannot explain how peak the experience of reading that book was - and I’ve already read another book since - so perhaps you could call it life changing 😂! Definitely going to add Red Rising onto my, to read list - sounds super cool!
I’ve heard such good things about project Hail Mary! I’m gonna add it to my list🙌
project hail mary changed my love for books I never read but after that book I read alot more now, it chaged my life it saved my life.
Glad to see others have had the same experience! Keep going
I had watched your other videos and this was the only one remaining and I'm in awe and shock cause I'm currently reading Way of Kings😱 No wonder I fell in love with your videos cause we seem to have very similar taste!!📚
Woww that’s crazy! I’m glad you like the videos and good luck on your way of kings read🫡
Enjoying it to the fullest📚!
You had me at space and describing the hierarchy, I'll give Red rising a shot
I envy the journey you’re about to go on
Just started reading red rising and I'm almost already done with it. This book is fire
I’m counting the seconds till Winds and truth! After this, I think I might give red rising a shot. Thanks!
I took a break from reading but you’ve inspired me to pick it back up thanks man 😊
Glad to hear that!
I got into Stephen King through audiobooks somewhat recently. Love his work. Need to finish the Dark Tower series I’m on book 5. Also recently read 11/22/63 and it is a masterpiece.
@@owenmahan2854 I’ve been told to read more king thinking of getting into dark tower
@@NephisTV You should it’s fantastic. I need to get back into the audiobooks I just haven’t been in an audiobook mood lately. Not cause the books are bad, they are amazing but sometimes I just listen to other stuff.
@Darrowenthusiast I heard the ending was controversial but Im sure I will love it. Dont know anything that will happen except for a few small things.
Starting to get into reading and I almost jumped when you said Red Rising because I just started it yesterday
Wow what a coincidence! How are you liking it?
You should try the bound and the broken by Ryan Cahill. Saying that it’s underrated would be an understatement. As a Sanderson fan myself, I think you’ll enjoy it very much.
I’ll add it to my list thanks for the suggestion!
keep up making content don't stop, you are good i really liked this video
Thank you🙌 I appreciate that
Loved this video. Keep it up!
@@cobuking thank you!
I hope my work inspires people like this
I have always loved to read man favorite book is the Jungle.
You're right. The earth is not the only planet in the world
awesome video, i’m currently reading Dune and loving it so far. keep up the good work 🤘🏼
Nicee! Glad you liked it!
Thank you for sharing! Mistborn was one of the first ones I read on my re-try too so I’m glad it was able to have an impact for you
I’d pay an unholy amount of money to experience Red rising for the first time again.
When you said Red Rising I was so happy😂
I never see anyone 5alk about that series
i stopped reading right after college but I've picked up the habit again recently, it's amazing how vivid your brain can interpret the words in front of you. great vid, also Black star pfp? subscribed 🙂↕️
A fellow black star fan is alwaysss welcome
Lmao idk if I should laugh or be terrified. Earlier today I decided that I wanted to get back into reading. I went to my bookstore and decided I’ll pick out one of the spotlight books that they have for each genre. I get to fantasy and it had The Way of Kings in its spotlight
I got impatient of browsing and decided to buy it since I like fantasy
You’re about to go on a crazy journey🙌
@@NephisTV Last parts of it were good but I feel like half of the info in the book wasn’t necessary. If the rest are like this I’m not sure I’m going to last for 4 more book 💀
Thanks TH-cam algorithm. I think I like your content, so I subbed. 👍
Fantastic work. I got hooked onto Red Rising late last year and I find all the books a blast to read
Golden son in particular was a crazy experience
Beautifully said! Currently reading Dracula and Game of Thrones, soon I wanna read book of the new sun by Gene Wolfe!
Never read gene Wolfe I’ll check him out
This is on another level
I started The way of kings about a month ago, I'm about to finish words of radiance sometime this week.
Which one do you prefer?
@@NephisTV Words of Radiance. I enjoyed the first one. But once were more established the story gets much more rich.
This video was more about providing that final nudge or sparking a small interest that could be nurtured later on
This was awesome! You should consider doing spoken word, your cadence and flow are captivating.
@@portermetzler7470 wow what a compliment thank you!
@@NephisTV Keep it up!
Guess this is my sign to read Way of Kings. Got the ebook in my iPad for months lmao
My gf got me into reading novles. I use to read manga, mythologies, and history, but now I've been reading more literature asoiaf always been part of my life for a while, and after reading King arthur and game of thrones I can't quit.
I’d say still read manga and all the fun stuff too, read everything you want to!
Try light novels best of both worlds
I think what's great is even if you don't like reading with audibooks it's still possible to experience these stories sometimes even in a better format was able to get someone I know into these stories by having them listen to six of crows on audible. And recommending one of the most depressing series I've read as a first book thats cold 😂 loved red rising but couldn't continue having such a long book series just keep hitting you emotionally for so long couldn't do it
@@bdb757 haha very fair take on red rising. The author doesn’t pull punches that’s for sure.
No one makes me connect with fictional characters more than Stephen King. Sometimes I get so attached and involved in their small town lives that I forget I'm even reading a book. Feels like I'm drinking at the bar with my friends or sitting in the backyard having a family barbecue with my close relatives.
Sign of a truly gifted author
I've started reading for the first time a year ago. The books I've completed in that time are stormlight 1-3, mistborn 1-2, the wheel of time 1-2, and the sun eater series by Christopher Ruocchio books 1-6. Please if you like sci-fi read sun eater. It was so good i couldn't stop reading it.
Fantastic Video , well done👏🏽
Thank you!
