Dude... I've learned a TON from you and your content!!! THANK YOU!!! I've been trying to make this kind of dark ambient for so long and just couldn't figure out what made it tick. Your tutorials are amazing. I love how your ideas just flow.. super rapidly. This is really awesome content. I cannot say thank you enough!! My tracks are finally sounding like what I've been dreaming of making!!! I want to combine this kind of dark ambient with hybrid orchestral trailer music as the underscore for the intro cues. You are phenomenal in your craft 👊👌THANK YOU!!!
Hey Chris! Man, what a killer tutorial you've put together here!I've used many of the techniques you've demonstrated in putting together an Ambient Halloween piece I'll be posting up to my Soundcloud page tomorrow. Love your work and being one of your Patreons! Peace brother!
@@s1gns0fl1fe To be honest, I have never used the sound of nature like this before, you are really creative my friend, thank you for your training, I will definitely use it in my work.
Hi Chris. Thanks for an another very useful toturial. You are brilliant. I have one question. You use "Chromatic 2 for Pigments" in Vital? Can Vital "read" Pigments files? Or is it only the wavetables files Vital can read/use?
Hey Chris, when sorting out a track's frequency spectrum, do you always want a "scoop in the mids" or is that mainly a dark ambient thing? I'm focusing on berlin school ambient, sequencer based stuff lately.
There was a theory out there that the 2k-3.5k zone is known as the "pain frequencies" where it physically hurts the ear if you boost it rather than cut. It's not so much a dark ambient thing as it is a physics thing and audio engineering. Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/kIBYcExFZ2Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iNCtNaPeHfqnq79f
Chris continues to be a world leader in a genre that the majority of us grew up believing to be "too complex for me to make" - His ability to breakdown complex information, make it entertaining, and leave us all with the ability to make these absolutely stunning tracks is just incredible, oh, and the majority of his content is free on youtube? What an absolute music legend
So cool! Could I ask if you would consider creating tutorials for ambient music production on iPads, I think apps have come a long way on that platform.
Eno got me into ambient, Lustmord took me into dark ambient way back when. After hearing Arecibo I emailed him to learn more about how it was made and he was kind enough to email me back. He wasn't able to give me any major insights but I thought it was great that he took the time to message me back.
indeed. It's decent drone ambient with a somewhat darker vibe but not really dark ambient. I miss many basic aspects of dark ambient like the ominous and eerie sounds, the melancholic and sad tone, emotionality. But then, everyone connects to music differently and expects different aspects within a certain sub genre. His work is great but it's on the electronic side of ambient and less so on the field recording/emotional/melancholic/eerie side as I would expect from dark ambient (like the music of Lustmord, Raison d'etré, Desiderii Marginis, Svartsinn etc)
Yeah, it’s a bit crap, as dark ambient. Not as full as Lustmord, but some other oldschool goodies are Coil’s track Dark River, or the cinematic expanse of SPK’s ‘Song of Byzantium Flowers’ album from.. 84?
@@tristen_grant what do you mean, “what do you mean?” You asked where’s the soul. I told you it’s located in the big toe! Maybe you don’t have big toes so you don’t realize that is where you soul should be.

Genius 👏👏👏👏
Hey Chris & S1gns community - when adding tracks via DistroKid (or similar), what genre do you select for this kind of music?
Ambient, Dark Ambient, and Experimental. I don't use DistroKid myself but those would be my picks. Hope that helps!
@@s1gns0fl1fe Hey, yeah, thats the thing, distokid doesn't have an ambient option which i thought was odd, it does have experimental though.
Thanks again Chris!! Great lesson!
You're welcome Rob!

I have one question. You use "Chromatic 2 for Pigments" in Vital? Can Vital "read" Pigments files? Or is it only the wavetables files Vital can read/use?
Chromatic 2 is a preset pack for Pigments but it includes 35 wavetables as a separate install that you can use in Vital. Hope that helps!

Nicely done
