And the greatest friend of Armenia, my school was named after him , when UK built it after the earthquake of 1988 . I was privileged to spend my best 15 days ( as a teenager ) in Hucknall , with another 15 teens, and we visited Newstead Abby. Not many peopls know that Byron learned Armenian in 3 years in an Armenian Catholic monastery in Venice and then he started translating Armenian literature into English. I would love to visit UK, specially Hucknall, Nottingham again.

Oh wow! I'm rather envious. I'd love to live near it. You simply must visit as soon as you get the chance! It's so spiritually awakening, utterly beautiful. x

Very nice! Appreciated seeing all the notable sites. Leslie A Marchand is a Byron scholar and I have almost everything he wrote on the man. He was a man of his time, and honorable. Genius requires passion and he was a passionate man. Thank you for sharing your tour.

Beautifully presented Amy. You have don't our Nottinghamshire proud! Well don't. I recently had a behind the scenes tour at newstead abbey that the generally public don't get to see, which is a awful shame cos it was wonderful. It's truly a magical place to visit and highly recommended.

I just finished reading a new 7-book series on Lord Byron by Gretta Browne. What an amazing life! The first book is titled "A Strange Beginning." Your video helps me envision the environs, so thank you, Amy.

Oh I'm so glad! I hope you get the chance to visit some of these places one day. Byron spread his life all over Europe, and I still need to see his Italy and his Greece!

It depends. I'm partnered with Fullscreen and they provide music that can be used, such as the one in the video. However, there are many sites that allow free downloads of music that are copyright-free.. x

Used to be a great restaurant at Newstead Abbey, The White Lady, I believe, took my wife there years ago, said to be named after a ghost of the same name who is said to haunt the grounds. What an amazing place for one talented but (still) contraversial person.

I'm not familiar with the restaurant but there is (or at least was; I've not been in a while!) a lovely cafe in the paddocks!

You can use pretty much a lot of different songs on youtube. A lot of music is is covered under third party agreements that youtube has.

I am new to Lord Byron. Can you suggest books or any sites to help me along the way?

  • @McLeanAmy

theworldoflordbyron(dot)blogspot(dot)com is a fantastic blog about Byron. I recommend that you buy a collection of his poems - Oxford's World's Classics: The Major Works is a good one to start wit as it has most of his major poems in full, and a great selection of his shorter lyrics. You'll also find extracts from his (very charming and witty) letters and journals, which are a must-read! Please do feel free to email me if you would like any further information. x
