@@AlluringFishing Yes! I got a 54cm flatty this morning on my go to lure - 75mm DC in black & gold. I'm using 12 lb leader, do you think 6lb gets more hits? :)

Hey mate how to choose a hardbody lure colour? Can you give me some tips please?

Hey Josh, I get best results with lures that resemble a baitfish or a prawn. If you're just starting out, I would suggest a Daiwa Double Clutch 75mm in the Rusty Ayu pattern or Brown Suji Prawn. This would be for a diving lure. For a topwater you can also go for dark or white, so plain black or a black prawn pattern would work at sunset as would a white on the surface

I use the larger double clutch, in one session I caught a 60cm tailor pb, 50 cm queenside, 3 large bream, 4 flat head over 50cm plus another 6 smaller flatties, (very lucky day)
the colour was the shiny lure with purple on top and the ayu ghost. I think those colours are a lot better for a mixed bag of species, the shiner the lure the better in my experiences,it needs to flash.

Tailor love a shiny lure for sure, but I have found the olive green colour to be very effective on flathead. That colour is in the double clutch on all the ayu pattern. Lately I've been getting big flathead on the rusty ayu pattern. Tailor also love the white in low light, so the purple suji prawn in the daiwa or the glass ghost in rapala x-rap also work very well

Great videos mate, very help. I was wondering if you could give us a run down on what fish you chase at what time of year around the lake and generally where you target them and why .i.e flathead in the spring time on the sand flats or bream winter time in the deeper parts of the lake ? Spawning etc. cheers Jarrod

Hey Jarrod thanks for your questions...still learning myself. What I know so far is that the tailor are on the beaches from end of January right up to July. The winter tends to bring more salmon on thr beach. From November to March whiting on the beach and on the shallow sand flats at the top of the channel and in the channel just close to the new pathways at blacksmiths.
All year round in the lake you will find tailor flathead and bream. Flathead get thick on the flats from October all through the summer and are still available in the deeper water in winter.
      Hope this helps you.

      Alluring Fishing ,
Thanks mate. I gave it a go yesterday with the kids and didn’t find any flathead but found plenty of bream and tailor around the drop over and flats. Will try again in a few days to see if those flathead have pushed up onto the flats for breading.

Nice video and very useful channel. Yea, daiwa is very good for trolling from kayak. Even small yellowtail jump on treble (all three hooks in mouth:)
What length of leader do you usually use in your setup? Thanks.

I usually use about 1 rod length of leader. So the FG knot is just below the top eye of the rod and the bottom of the lure is just above the bottom eye of the rod when I cast. The FG knot will also cast through the rod eyes but I prefer not to do that.

Hi mate if you go onto motackle on line they sell 3D Crystal Minnows 👍 just found your channel and subscribe I have just started to fish for flat head after moving down to southeast Queensland for up north and going to make this my target fish so thanks for the tips👍

Thanks for the heads up on the crystal minnow. The 90mm is a brilliant lure, very durable, much stronger than a daiwa double clutch. Nothing needs to be upgraded! Just that the colours and the action and most importantly that piston system in the double clutch makes them cast a mile and so smooth too.
Up until very recently, you could get crystal minnows for about $15 on ebay but now even those are $20 due to the exchange rate. Thanks for the tip re motackle, will have a look.
