    Actually rapidly dropping the rhythm and lining up the lyrics for a flowing rendition of a true art form , without the need for cussing and degradation to anyone or anything, being able to express yourself in a way that is entirely entertaining and getting your point across 🙌😀 Salt &Peppa... other stuff by them, None of your business, What a man, Push it 👏👌🙌 catch yourself on judging these girls who have paved the way

    It was awesome to graduate in the late eighties and all the music that came right after that through the nineties. Shoop is just a rhyming sound to go with doop ay doop, those are male models hired for the video. I saw Salt n Pepa at Woodstock in ninty four.

    I think somebody once told me the whole point of the song was to turn around objectifying back onto men. Pretty clever and catchy.

    • @oregonchick76
      @oregonchick76 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! All the male artists at that time were making videos with girls in skimpy outfits dancing around the men, a lot of the songs were overtly misogynist, etc. Salt n Pepa had this fantastic, fun response of throwing it right back at the guys... Not unlike TLC would later do with "No Scrubs."

    Unlike today with the internet, you had to get it past the FCC sensors for these videos to air on MTV which was one of the few places that would play music videos. You had the m_Midnight Special, Don Kirchner's Rock Concert, Soul Train and American Bandstand but those were live performances. Like TH-cam and TikTok today, if you wanted your video to be seen, it had to be on MTV. So, to get it past the sensors, you had allot of word play and double-entendre. Shoop means exactly what you think it means.

    90s had a vibe.... it was individuality at its finest, but simultaneously everything felt like a community. The mid to late 90s. It was like the first era of women having a presence in corporate industry. For instance I was born in 89... it would not have been strange for a 35 yr old black woman to be representing say some industry insurance corporation at a presentation. Honestly, it felt like racism was much less prevalent in news and society, but I presume not having social media to instantly highlight every instance of it has a lot to do w it. Honestly, I think it was a better environment. Think about it... its not good for ppl to feel like they are up against low odds all the time... even if they are. Not everyone is going to be able to find that strength, especially early in life. Ive always had the mentality that I would never allow excuses for my children and I would hold them to a higher standard for themselves, because I would sufficiently support them to encourage their confidence and self worth. That is how you build success and character. Through failing and persistence, yet not letting failure reflect upon ones self worth. imo. 90s style was crazy pastel colors, vibrant color combos, everything was colorful, and lots of geometric shapes. Think of the background patterns to like Fresh Prince or Saved By The Bell... it was a great time to grow up. Lots of optimism for the world.

    The male rapper with the short verse after the bridge was "Big Twan," who did a few other guest verses but didn't really go anywhere. Not sure what happened to him.
    Funny that you called this "old school." I just put out my first video on my channel, and in the last section I discuss how the meaning of "old school" has changed. I also highlight the first rap song on a major label, if you want to check it out for some ideas on music to react to.

    Shoop is a euphemism for a four letter word that starts with f and ends with k. That's all I can tell you, girl, lol! You'll have to figure the other two letters out for yourself. ;)
