Almost what he was expected to do due to family pressures! On the other hand he could be doing this for Mehru ,so his brother could be released and Shahnawaz’s political career won’t be hampered!

In the beginning, I was sure that he was trapping her, but in the last few episodes, the scenes made me confused. Seeing Shahnawaz feeling things for Mehru, I thought he might actually have feelings for her. All thanks to the director!
