    For Shred base there is only one suggestion - Blender Squad

    You can dodge a lot of the shots in air combat by flying perpendicular to the incoming fire. You don't need to rely on rolls so heavily and it's costing a lot of hp on the interceptors.
    You have plenty of ammo with this many interceptors, so when the UFO turns to target one of them, have that one fly at an angle to the UFO while the others insert hot lead.

    I believe the reason that the shoot down of the first destroyer happened may be the missile battery finishing off the ship as Griffen left.

    That retreating thing with the intercepting jets looks like a bug at first glance, or some user interface elements that need some polish - the combat didn't seem to last that long at all.

    The little panic-spike news reports are rather brutal. Public park attacked, estimated 102 killed. Fun times. Guess we're not keeping the aliens secret in this one.
    As always, spoilers and edits lie below. Except not really on the edits, since TH-cam is being mad at me today and this is all copy/pasted from a Word document.
    Oh there's more. A helicopter got taken down, 5 crew gone. A fishing fleet got sunk, 100 lost at sea. A plane got shot down, 300 dead. 500+ in the first 150 seconds of video.Might be time to get some more interceptors going.
    In addition to better shields, don’t you have better armor to start making?
    Looks like the planes ran out of combat fuel Highfleet-style, but kept shooting while they disengaged and took the UFO down last-minute.
    7:45 They get a debuff to you hitting them, not a buff to their accuracy. Stealth!
    12:08 Probably flashbang first, then smoke grenade if that’s what your doing - prevents reaction fire and means you’re not trying to throw a flashbang into smoke. Also not sure how well a flashbang would even work in smoke, realistically. Probably fine, they’re bright.
    18:20 … is it really XCOM-like if your soldiers aren’t a disgrace to human marksmanship?
    21:10 You were talking about armor and shields earlier, I think we found the unit that needs it most
    25:40 One mentarch for multiple legally-distinct-Chryssalids is not a trade I would make voluntarily
    31:45 love how 99% health and 10% health are both color-coded as yellow like they’re equivalent.
    35:01 having ground teams at all your bases also means having base-defense squads at all your bases, and means you can deal with multiple things at once, and means you can multiple options if and when getting your dropships shot down becomes a thing.

      At 7:45, he said their harder to hit, so I'm gonna make the guess of tired but just wants to get something done, so he misspoke. Also, about the reapers, with milestone 4, melee attacks now have a 60% hit chance, modified by the reflexes of the attacker and defender, so they can miss now, YAY!

    • @DebatingWombat
      @DebatingWombat 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I understood the Reaper/Chryssalid reference as exactly a worry about the presence of Reapers, rather than “only” a Mentarch, hoping that breaching the UFO wouldn’t mean stepping into a hornet’s nest of Reapers.
      What made it even more eerie was the lack of the typical Mentarch movement sound, so that, until the breach, it was still a distinct possibility that the Reapers were camping in the UFO.
      Still, I seem to recall that, when there are Reapers at a crash site, they seem to be fanning out across the map to see if they can attack and infect any civilians present.

      @DebatingWombat 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only other explanations I can think of are either that:
      1) Some aliens are just spawning dead by default at crash sites (but their corpses are typically located within the UFO itself), or
      2) That maybe some aliens spawn wounded at crash sites (though I don’t know if that’s even possible) and that this one simply died from its wounds, or
      3) That the alien could’ve been killed by friendly fire when another alien tried to kill the civilian (possible, but unlikely).

    Still feels like your getting too aggressive and ahead of yourself again. I'd really suggest trying to reel it back to how you were handling missions and maybe even dogfights in the early game where it was more calm, collected, observant and well thought out. Your going too fast and it's getting you into bad situations that could have been avoided...bad situations that are costing you greatly and your lucky to have only lost so much as you did.
    Aside from that though? Great stuff still and I always look forward to this series as well as get excited when I see a new episode pop up. Hopefully you feel better soon and I know the illness is part of what's making you make those decisions, but I figured a reminder might help and not be uncalled for.

    • @DebatingWombat
      @DebatingWombat 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m not sure if he’s necessarily too aggressive overall. The use of the MARS was quite overconfident, but most of the rest of the actions were fairly prudent and the losses minimal (the MARS is expensive to rebuild, but apart from that he only had one wounded).
      The problem is that facing the combination of several Wraiths and Gun Drones requires some level of aggression: Trying to set up ambushes can go south very quickly because of the Wraith’s cloak ability and if the Drones have a chance to get a salvo off, they will almost certainly suppress at least two or three soldiers, unless your squad is very dispersed.
      The fact that he managed to kill off every Drone before they got a shot off, was hugely beneficial and the Wraiths seemed to be much more into “shoot and scoot” tactics than the often mindless aggression shown by other aliens (especially Sibellians). Hence, it would appear that the aggressive tactics meant that most of the Wraiths moved a bit back and were thus less able to use their own ambush tactics.
      That said, there were a few lucky catches along the way. Especially that the Drone didn’t get a clear shot at the back of the soldiers on the left of the map.
      But I’ve seen Drones making such moves before, and I think it may be because their movement pattern could be programmed to include swooping around and behind the squad using their hovering ability. This then allows them to spring attacks from unexpected angles and from areas that have supposedly been cleared. They also seem to frequently spend all their TUs on movement, keeping none in reserve for reaction fire, but this means that they can cover surprisingly large distances in a single turn.

    • @Marxman-bi5yu
      @Marxman-bi5yu 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DebatingWombat I figured a decent amount of that but I saw at least 3 times that I can currently remember where he made some pretty blatantly bad moves (at least to me) because he himself was going too fast almost like he was stressing and panicking to make his own turns as quick as possible.
      I understand he probably wants to reduce video length but taking just an extra 30 seconds to stop, look at the situation and think would have most likely prevented the MARS getting destroyed, the drone coming out of the leftmost house to flank him and Ander's getting shot as well as some other things he did that could have put him in a really bad spot had the aliens taken certain actions.
      I know the cold is some of it and I know how stressed and panicked someone can get playing these types of games since I played BattleTech for quite some time and still occasionally do. But I've seen how calm and well thought he can be in Xenonaughts as well and I feel like he's loosing that these last however many videos long before getting sick.

    I bet the destroyer went down either to the very last bullet ricochet into something important at the last second or bird strike as the jets were leaving. Either way they took credit for it.

    I suspect a second ground team is a good way to LOOSE the air fight which is honestly far more important - you can win using very few ground missions. A decent ground team is a MASSIVE investment once you add up all the expenses. Yes, you'll end up not being able to do ground combat on a few downed scouts but that's far better than getting completely overwhelmed by their air power which would be the result.

    IIRC in X1 you needed 4 AA batteries to garantee that a base wouldn't get invaded.
    I had a few dedicated airbases with 2-4 hangers and 4 AA, it's a cheapish way to keep the continents happy.
    I never lost them, but the enemy rarely attacked them either.

    Maybe having a 2nd team in NA would be a decent idea. You had some concerns on whether Danny Boy could reach Greenland and Miami several episodes ago and a second team there can handle those areas and Eastern Asia. That would give you more flexibility in the western hemisphere, while the Africa Corp can work with Europe and Western Asia. Australia would be kinda left out but I have faith they can handle their own backyard. They can also serve as a base defense as that base will be a money maker and as the secondary fabricator.
    For aircraft names:
    North America - Thunderbird (Attack Craft) | Moth Man (Skyranger)
    Asia - Tengu (Attack Craft) | Chollima (Skyranger)
    South America - Alicanto

      The idea of using the second base to take on the easier crash site sounds very solid. Of course, it means investing in a second set of barracks and another dropship, but I’m pretty sure they’ll quickly earn back those funds.
      The alternative would be to only get the smaller cash bonus for bombing the crash sites, but having a second team would also ensure good protection of their home base, if an alien strike force comes knocking.

    4:55 this is the definition of "fine. this is fine" -.-
    Why did you use afterburner, which burns through fuel much fast than usual?
    Why put the center plane on the side instead of letting it sit in the middle? (also, why not use the big buttons for automatic deployment strategies, on the top left?)
    Also, why letting your planes fly this far out instead of letting the ufo come closer to your base and the intercepting?
    Lastly, AA batteries? Seriously? I dont think ive ever seen anyone actually liking them...
    edit - at least your tactical game is solid (:

    • @lucasellis183
      @lucasellis183 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Afterburners allow you to close the gap faster, but yeah, you need to let ufo's get close enough to the base before you intercept otherwise your more limited by your fuel than your health. At least it isn't like the first game, where ammo cap was the big limiter. Also, base defense batteries are a godsend to me, their my best friends. (Because unlike everyone else with a gun, their never incopotent.)
