- Nothing about Dinosaur Jr.’s chaotic music should have worked, but on their sophomore LP, the Western Massachusetts trio made it mesh, and in the process, altered the fabric of independent rock music forever.

You're Living All Over Me literally might be the best album to ever exist. It was the blue print for every Indie band after.
I'm a simple man, I see Dinosaur Jr, I click.
Blaine Bauman i was just about to comment the same thing
I'm a complicated man, I see Dinosaur Jr, I manually type in the URL by shouting from a cross the street into a speech-to-text program with a mouth full of peanut butter. Frankly, I'm amazed I even made it here.
Exactly lol
I have explosive diarrhea
Simp
I don't understand how this isn't considered the greatest album ever made.
it's not for everyone, but i think a lot of the songs just have to grow on you
Because it isn’t. There are so much better
exactly, but everyone does not have the same taste.
@@MatthewvanR.music. then no album ever should be named a best album ever
@@merdefilms3837 strongly disagree, i loved every single song the first time i listened to the album. It has some of the most beautiful melodies i've ever heard.
One of the best albums to ever be released
kracked into sludgefeast is one of the best back-to-back rock song combos on any LP ever
Fuck yeah this is my favorite album
this has been my favourite album for 7 years and i just now realized its "fury" and not "furry"
The Lung is certainly one of the best songs ever
Dinosaur Jr.'s blend of alternative rock & noise rock is just heaven. J, Lou, & Murph are excellent musicians.
You're Living All Over Me came out in 1987. It's aged 31 years already.
Ocean Sage this was meant as a reply to another comment lol my b
Okay cool. I was like what is he talking about. lol
Ocean Sage lmao

" Let it be" absolutely deserves one of these!
or 'Tim'
Tim is so much better than Let It Be, we need one for that album
+William James Let It Be doesn't have I'll Buy, Kiss Me on the Bus, Waitress in the Sky, Bastards of Young, Lay It Down Clown, Little Mascara and Here Comes a Regular.
Flying To Learn you forget to mention "left of the dial"
Back when my music collection only was about 25 cassette tapes, this was one of them. Great album.
Dinasaur Jr. is such an under rated band.
90s music in the 80s. This album and Daydream Nation a year later. Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth and Pixies established the 90s rock sound before most people heard Nirvana's Bleach or Nevermind. No disrespect to Nirvana or Seattle. But Boston, Northampton and New York sparked the last great decade of rock music.
Brendan A. MacWade exactly.
Brendan A. MacWade Now look what you’ve done, you started a nerd stampede!
They even have some moments that sound like post black metal, a genre that didn't spark out until 2000s
Also, R.E.M's contribution to the evolution can not be ignored because their first few albums gave college radio underground music clout and their success made major labels and the media pay attentionI fully but feel it's those three band's back to back album releases in the 80's that established Alternative Nation as MTV would later coin it with their show. Dinosaur Jr's You're Living All Over Me/Bug, Sonic Youth's Sister/Daydream Nation and Pixies' Surfer Rosa/Doolittle.
@@cactaceous Technically 120 minutes. Alternative Nation focused on more ‘mainstream’ alternative music. 120 Minutes was for enthusiasts of the genre.
wouldn't have expected a dinosaur jr video . 11/10
More quality content pls.
Do the masterpiece by Corey Feldman´s Angelic 2 the core
Ah, a fellow connoisseur of music.
it’s strange and dated but in the best way possible, and I really mean that as a compliment
Unwound!
fundementalist mormon chillwave 2002 I would kill for a documentary. it's my favorite album by far
the microphones - the glow, pt. 2
Dinosaur Jr. is one of the bands that played the soundtrack of my youth (along with Fugazi which you guys have already covered).
Now, can you do one of these "Explore" bit's for the others... Black Flag, Sonic Youth, Bad Brains, The Minutemen, Dead Kennedys, Camper Van Beethoven, and Oingo Boingo to name a few.
Steven Edmundson they did one on daydream nation a few months ago :-)
Thanks! Guess I missed that one. Turns out Pitchfork had also done one for the Pixies "Doolittle" which was another of my teenage year favorites.
They really should do one of these on Black Flag. Probably Damaged or My War.
The first and the last of the 80's bands to still be great.
This is what we all needed
pictures of murph with hair??? my mind is blown
Yes! One of the best rock albums. Glad it’s getting more recognition.
This album sounds like it could’ve been released yesterday. Let alone a year dominated by bands like Poison and Winger.
wow. being an early 20 something i never thought of this record in the context of the popular music at the time. so odd
Prob one of my favorite albums ever. This deserved it.
Woah young j mascis looks like Julian casablancas
Clyde G 100% I’ve always thought this but never said it out loud before.
Funny how they both kind of dress the same, now!
Please do a Guided by Voices- Bee Thousand one!!!
Miles Wayne - I'd love to see Propeller or Under The Bushes, Under The Stars.
Pond Song is really underrated
thats off of bug tho...
one of the best rock albums to come out the late 80s
Quite possibly the greatest album of all time. The definition of timeless.
Absolutely my favorite of all their work!
Do HANL's 'Deathconscioucness' next
Vasari O yes.
Classic
I saw Dinosaur Jr a few months ago, best live show ever!!!
I'm wearing my YLAOM shirt right now!
Nice & thorough Pitchfork!
best Dino record
A much more important alt rock album than Nevermind... to me anyway.
Too Rare Publishing definitely more important. But this is not to say Nevermind wasn't a breakthrough
No doubt
Too Rare Publishing I like nirvana but nevermind sucks honestly, besides a few songs
Too Rare Publishing same
Oh hey there!
One of my all-time favourite records, one of the most unique (best?) records? Distortion speaks.
It's good J didn't join Nirvana his guitar skills are way above their heads
I think they wanted him to drum
You're right! And J DID NOT WANT to deal with the fame that came with being involved of a big band at the time.
@@NickHarman first time they asked him was for a guitar position then the second time was for drums
perfect album
This was good and I enjoyed it ,but I was a bit let down by no mention of poledo at all.
people hate on pitchfork too much. these liner notes vids have been great.
Love this
YES!! My favorite album!
Love this album
A RABBIT FALLS AWAY FROMM MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
FASTER THAN I CRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWL
Incorrect, either Lou or J said that the lyric is actually ‘grab it falls away from me’
Flying To Learn waaa when
I can't remember when but it was this interview I read a while back.
Lou: "There's no rabbit in the song."
A big part of my youth resides inside that album.

I didn't realize J was a pretty hot dude back in the day
Nirvana might’ve actually been a good band if Mascis joined
No one would know who j mascis is if it weren’t for Nevermind.

Always Was, Is and Always Shall Be by GG Allin.
Dinosaur Jr is much better then Sonic youth
Jason Clark totally agree. Much more focus and less self indulgent experimentation. More indulgent sounds and gain.
To me, Dinosaur Jr are much more direct and concise while Sonic Youth are more about creating beautiful noisy landscapes. I love both but none is better than the other.
Emmo Hernández I gave sonic youth a chance and I wasn't impressed at all. They don't have one song as good as any of Dinosaur Jr's songs
Jason Clark It's ok if you think that. But I couldn't disagree more. Maybe it's just not for you.
Both essential listening, both unique, both have put out some of the best albums of all time.
I don't need to pick which is better, i love both.
