Before ending today's lesson, let's practice listening to the following passage.
My hometown is San Francisco, which I think is a very beautiful city. It's located by the Pacific Ocean, and you can enjoy some amazing views of the ocean there. San Francisco is generally clean, although some places can be a little dirty. It's not too dangerous overall, though there are occasional crimes, but I still feel safe living here.
However, it’s also quite expensive. Everything is pricey-food, housing, shopping-pretty much everything you can think of. But the city is famous, especially because of the Golden Gate Bridge, which is one of the most famous bridges in the world.
The weather in San Francisco is pretty mild. It's never hot, and it's never super cold. The temperature stays either warm or cool all year round. I think the city is very interesting, too. There are people from all over the world, great food, and a lot of beautiful nature nearby, plus some cool buildings around the city.
When Meg asked about her hometown, Chicago, I was interested because Chicago also has some similarities with San Francisco. Chicago has a big lake, Lake Michigan, and although it's not by the ocean, it has some amazing sights. Meg said Chicago is beautiful, with lots of tall buildings and clean areas, though, like in San Francisco, there are parts of the city that are a bit dirty. Chicago can be a bit dangerous too, but like San Francisco, it has areas where it's safe.
Both cities are very expensive, and Chicago's costs for food, attractions, and parking are high as well. One thing Meg pointed out is that Chicago gets quite hot in the summer, especially around July and August. But like me, she thinks Chicago is a really interesting city with plenty to do, from museums to nature around the lake.
I told her that in my opinion, San Francisco is a better place to visit than Los Angeles because LA is not as beautiful and is even more expensive. I think both San Francisco and Chicago have a lot to offer, and I’d recommend either city.
