    that set of tones, which are likely a coded alarm, sound really similar to the emergency radio tones that are used to call rescue squads and fire departments where I live. As an interesting side note, some places including the rescue squad where I worked had different pitches of tones for medical emergencies, car wrecks, fires, and swift water rescue for flash flooding along with an air raid siren to call people to the nearby fire department who were on shift.

      I was in Long Beach Washington and they have the same air raid siren for calling firefighters to the station. I had no idea, so when I heard that, I thought the tsunami sirens were going off. In my opinion, it’s a pretty stupid way of notifying the firefighters in a coastal town. If the actual tsunami sirens go off people are just going to ignore it

      How this works: a sprinkler system is always pressurized slightly, either with water directly (wet sprinklers), or with air (dry sprinklers). A pressure gauge on the system keeps an eye on the pressure level, and if it drops suddenly, triggers an alarm the same way pulling a pull station does.
      The logic here is that since it’s pressurized, the only way the pressure will drop is if a sprinkler head starts to discharge - nominally, due to a fire.
      Of course, if a pipe breaks, the same thing will happen - the pressure gauge has no way to tell, after all.

      Crowd crushes are actually really horrifying, not uncommon, and extremely deadly. There have been many instances of fires starting, people panicking, rushing exits that are poorly maintained or partly blocked, and then dying not because of the fire but because the pressure of the panicked crowd kept them from breathing. It’s a horrible way to go, and a big reason modern fire codes require doors be equipped with push bars (aka panic bars) instead of knobs or levers, and open outwards.

    This kinda reminds me of that time I was in a public library, and there would be this alarm that went off every 10 minutes for no reason. It didn’t seem like it was the fire alarm though, but it startled me a lot.

    Fire alarm goes off, nobody evacuates lol

    • @kilodeltaeight
      @kilodeltaeight 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      They’re not supposed to. In a big space like this you do NOT want everyone running to the exits at once: it would cause a crush, and is a huge disruption regardless. Rather, you send a “standby” alert (as the system does here) and wait for a little bit. If additional sensors trigger, or if an all-clear isn’t sent by the building staff, the system will start sending evacuation notices in a phased sequence designed to get people closest to the danger out the fastest, and in a way that avoids a crush.
      Modern buildings are designed such that fires can’t spread quickly - they have to burn through barriers designed to withstand fire for various periods of time (from a few minutes to hours, depending), ensuring you can take time to get everyone out safely, assuming they need to at all.

    And the Frequency the Signal Tone has made was a 1000 Frequency tone (Square).

      Not simplex!!! it’s Firecom. The 1000hz tone is def not simplex! same message as some 4100u/ES panels probably due to the company using a similar speech synthesizer. Firecom is very common in stadiums, in fact it’s the system at the staples center. The speakers must be tapped at high wattage as it’s Deafening!
