    I wanna say that for me this was probably the most engaging episode yet. Boris has endless energy and I love the fact that he's out there with a simple approach to his gear, especially when he casually stated that he only has one lens. Great work, Paulie.

    Just discovered your channel and interview series. I have always been a lifelong fan & viewer of street photography, but not very much of contemporary ones. Thanks for shedding light on these great photographers and love love love your interview & video structure, watching them work, + including some of the snaps they got DURING your walk is just A+. The images just enhance the experience so much more, and works so well also when you show some or their past work it give that feeling of knowing someone’s work while talking to them, and you have that picture in your head while you both discuss it. Just so good, so immersive. Love!

    It’s always enjoyable to see and hear other photographers talk about their craft and how they see the world. Boris made a great point about being knowledgeable of events before making it a thing in your portfolio. Great video Paulie.

    Something about this guy and this video is making me homesick.....I miss the city and street! Boris reminds me of the kids I grew up with many years ago.... his images are timeless.

    Boris really knew his stuff. Also really appreciate taking the time for some street photography that doesn't include people. Smart dude, great episode, I wish Boris all the best.

    I'm enjoying your videos. Just a note -- not sure if another commenter has mentioned it -- but the photo of the couple holding the monkeys at 2:36 is actually taken by Papageorge. Garry Winogrand is the guy holding the camera on the far left. Winogrand took a photo of that couple with the monkeys that's quite famous. I think I remember reading an interview with Papageorge where he said (with humour, not anger) that Winogrand pushed him out of the way to get the photo.

  • @brushstrokemedallion
    @brushstrokemedallion ปีที่แล้ว +3

    For anyone wondering why Gary Winogrand is smiling left of frame in the photo attributed to him at 2:36, that's actually Tod Papageorge's photo, shot probably seconds before or after Windogrand's famous photo of the same scene.

    Aye! Another M4-P shooter. Great video, enjoyed his photos especially the one at 13:11! Wow.

  • @seongslee
    @seongslee 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Another great episode! I just thought it's worth mentioning that this photo at 2:36 is actually a shot by Ted Papageorge (according to his documentary movie) who happened to be at the scene with Garry Winogrand. Just noticed it as I saw Garry in the left corner of the picture. Garry took a similar shot but without him being in it :)

    I found Boris on Instagram a few months ago and I was really looking forward to him being on your show.
    His work really resonates with me and especially as a fellow monochrome shooter I really fehlt his points about shooting black and white.
    I would love to get a book of Boris work in the near future.
    He's probably in my top 10 of contemporary photographers.

    Amazing sensibility, consistent work, great framing skills, an eye for the special and unusual. All that`s needed for great black & white photography. The landscape photography is also impressive. So happy I watched this episode. Thank you Boris and Paulie.

    Wow. Very cool episode. I love how Boris spends time in those "low foot traffic" areas. I often fall into tue trap of feeling like I have to be in the usual, densely populated parts of NY to shot but this reminded me to step off the beaten path now and again.

    Loved the sound of the Leica M4-P click.
    Calm. Casual. Smooth. A good way to live. I try to be invisible.
    Putting down your camera = dies? Make work until you put down your came.
    Love that 28mm lens is your favorite so you don’t have another lens. Maybe the lack of a 2nd lens is related to the price of Leica lenses.

    Great video!! So many beautiful images! One question I have is how is Boris able to get such sharp images when he is moving, shooting one handed or even the subject is moving? Is it a combination of high iso film, fast shutter speed, low fstop and alot of practice with zone focusing, also good light? Maybe the lense been wide angle & maybe been a leaf shutter would help also?
