    For me none of those ‘negatives’ even enter into my mind. My daily driver is a 911 997.1 Turbo Trip and it is an absolute joy to drive. It makes a routine boring drive something I really look forward to. I drive it around town, but I also take it on business trips up to five or six hours away. Best daily drivers on the planet.

      That is a nice car and I’m not sure if any of the reasons in this video are truely negatives. It is more about understanding what you are getting, but the driving experience makes it worth it and for a sports car they are actually pretty practical.

      @@OurRideLife Got it. Yea, everyone should understand what you’re signing up for with any older sports car, but as you say the enjoyment is really something special. It terms of maintenance cost the 997.1 Turbo Trip with its hardened and very realizable Mercedes transmission and the rugged Mezger engine is a great way to go to minimize and almost eliminate the risk of catastrophic failure of a high dollar item. Mine has about 75,000 miles and outside of routine maintenance it’s given me no issues. I’m hoping to keep it until 125,000 miles. Thanks for the video

    Is that a question?? I know lots of people who daily there 911, that’s why people get them. You can take them on track, drive across country and take it shopping!

      I guess I should have added that this is largely intended to be sent to anyone that may be preventing you from getting a 911 because they think it is just a weekend car.

    my manual 99 996.1 cable throttle cab has been on/off daily for 7 years. Very practical and satisfying except in stop/go traffic. Switch to your automatic vehicle for those when predictable.

      I’m a fan of the 1999 996.1 with the cable driven throttle body, but then I may be bias.

    I drove my 911 100 miles to the track. Beat on it for 4 sessions. Drove home- 19 mpg :)

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They do get good gas mileage and the fact that you drive it to the track, drive it hard on the track and then drive it home is quite a testament to the way they are built.
      Compared to something like a Honda Civic it will cost you more in gas between the gas mileage difference and the need for premium gasoline. However, you’ll have a smile on your face each time you get out of the 911 and that is worth the extra cost in my opinion.

    This is the goal, get one of these and drive it everywhere! Who knows, with a 911 I might be able to make my 8 minute commute turn into a 15 or 20 minute commute!

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s especially true if there is a route that has plenty of curves.

    $5.35 a gallon of gas!? That seems so bloody cheap to us in the UK. Wish we paid that little haha.

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Fair point and it is a lot cheaper in most of the US than that price for California. As of this morning a gas station near my house in Florida was $3.35 (a few others are a bit higher at $3.49), so it gets cheaper in much of the country. A large part of the reason California is more expensive is they have a special blend that is supposed to cause less emissions and they have a lot more taxes on their gas compared to most of the other states.
      So, if visit the US visit some of the south eastern states with cheaper gas and rent a car with a big V8 because the gas is so much cheaper. They can’t take a turn, but they are fun in a straight line.

    Practically all the problems you mention go away if you switch to a 4 cylinder sports car.

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So, if you gaily drive a 718 Cayman or Boxster with the turbo-charged flat-four it would take care of things. Interesting thought…

    I’d love a 911. Unfortunately I use a wheelchair so if I can’t stow it easily my dream of owning a 911 is staying a dream. I wouldn’t consider an SUV, it’s just not the same.

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve done a bit of digging and there may be a few options to store it in the 911. It partly depends on the wheelchair, but one option would be to use a roof rack, although you may need a passenger to help put it up there and to get it back down. Some folks have put a hitch for a bike rack and you could potentially do the same with a manual rack designed to hold a wheelchair. The only thing to watch out for with this option is the additional weight in the rear with it already having the weight of the chair.
      I hope that helps and that you can find an option to live your 911 ownership dream.

      Crazy idea. I personally like to keep my more spirited driving for when I’m on the track.

    “Easy on gas” not so hard in a country where maximum speed limit snail speed 👀😶‍🌫️😀

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would help keep things lower. In the US we don’t really have speed cameras, but I know some countries do and make it even more difficult.

    try the UK £6.75 a gallon, trust me you've got a bargain.

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And I saw it for $3.35 as of this morning in my part of Florida, so it is even more of a bargain. I do remember my parents complaining about the crazy high price of gas when we lived in New Zealand when I was younger and I’m sure it was a lot cheaper over there at the time.

      It’s all part of the experience.
      But a lot depends on the suspension setup and which seats were optioned as far as comfort goes.

    The cabin noise is ridiculously loud and there's nothing you can do about it

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fair point.
      My fix for that was putting on a louder exhaust, so you don’t notice it, but not everyone wants that in a daily driver.

      What 911 do you drive? My daily is a 911 997.1 Turbo Trip and the noise isn’t a problem for me. It’s not a rolls or some other big sedan or SUV, but its fine and the driving experience more than makes up for the extra noise, but that’s just me

    Fuel consumption is better on my 991 than my Range Rover🥲

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Fair point. Our family Dodge Durange usually gets a bit worse that my old 996. The only thing that keeps the Durango cheaper to run in gas is that it uses regular instead of premium gasoline.
