Kubrick had so much talent and inspiration to put some magical and wonderful classical musics like this one. He used it in Clockwork's Orange when Alex come back in his kitchys parents' home seeing he has been replaced, and god it's just one of the best scene ever made, giving thrills everytime
My fav part of this work is not the famous galop but rather the adrenalin-building middle storm section; here with the trombones and upper woodwinds nicely captured.
This is definitely one of the finer points of Romantic music. Cello quintets, appropriate percussion foreshadowing the storm, and everything else combine to achieve that which is worth achieving.
El solo del chelo es celestial, impresionantemente introspectivo al menos para mi.. y pensar que lo que sigue es una desencadenada fiesta del eliseo.... que contraste!!!
Someone has already mentioned Looney Tunes cartoons - but does anyone remember which Disney short used it as well? It was Mickey Mouse, and there was a flood or something. . . I dare say most people are introduced to classical music through cartoons. It is a shame that when so many stop watching cartoons, they stop listening to classical music as well.
Would you expect otherwise from an orchestral trombone section? :D Check out some of the low brass clips that utube user OSYBass has- some of them are DANG close to the 1971 Chicago Symph Orch low brass recordings. Gosh dang, that 3rd trombone feller is a hulk of a guy.

Very good version, maybe the woodwind should have played more piano at the beggining of the thunder but anyway I liked it a lot, the trombonists are awesome!

I REALLY like this performance!
Bravo the first cellist !!!
I did not want to cry. But I managed only till the second minute. Oh boy, this is beautiful.
The cellos at the beginning never fail to make me hold my breath for a few minutes. In a good way, of course.
people always forget that there is the most glorious cello solo at the beginning of this piece.
absolutely beautiful.
and happy birthday to Rossini!
Un capolavoro di Rossini. Grandi orchestra, maestro, pubblico!
This is definitely one of the finer points of Romantic music. Cello quintets, appropriate percussion foreshadowing the storm, and everything else combine to achieve that which is worth achieving.
I am duly impressed.
i ABSOLUTELY LOVE the cello quintet in the beginning.
I'm surprised to see no comments here before me.
This is a splendid interpretation of a popular piece.
Fantastic performance!
I LOVE THE CELLO. It's so gorgeous. And the trombones at 4:00 are awesome!!! That is so awesome.
I find it amazing how many metal heads listen to classical music.
3:00 - Band Concert Mickey!
Ah, the days when music used to be lyric-less poetry. Amazingly beautiful.
Happy Birthday, Rossini!
awesome piece!!!
i heard this in another concert and it was AMAZING!
Excellent. Congratulations.
I just love it
Music is the universe !
Part 1, sections 1 and 2, Section 1, "Prelude", aka "Dawn". Section 2, "Storm".
@lawman3842 I can't believe this hasn't gotten more thumbs ups than "Music is the universe"
Amazing first cello solo....wow!
Love the way this sounds 2:13!!!
its at times like this i regret moving from the cello to the double bass, but as they say, bass is best!
I love the flute's little ending.
awesome, amazing cello
The one dislike is Gessler from beyond the grave, seeking his revenge.
@FromPeterhof When weare listening this music, any sound else is noise for our ears.
@188043 I think that's the idea...that's about when I start to cry too. That's what Rossini would have wanted :)
@k73f they're absolutely amazing, the cello quintet!

Now I know the titles to the 4 movements:
1-The Prelude
2-The Storm
3-Call to the Dairy Cows (what??) LOL
4-Finale "Cavalary Charge"
very good cello solo in the beginning
Holy trombone beasts!!!!!!!!!!!!
very good
@eveningtsar
Yes, Mickey conducting, then the storm. I think it was called 'The Band Concert'
Of course, the last generation only knows this music, BECAUSE it played every Sat. morning.
Would you expect otherwise from an orchestral trombone section? :D
Check out some of the low brass clips that utube user OSYBass has- some of them are DANG close to the 1971 Chicago Symph Orch low brass recordings.
Gosh dang, that 3rd trombone feller is a hulk of a guy.
Браво, пич!!! :)
@eveningtsar Mickey mouse in Fantasia was 'Sorcerer's Apprentice' by Dukas ^_^
Still tippin on 4 4s wrapped in 4 Vogues

Mahler 1945
that bass trombone player is so big he makes his instrument look like a freak'in alto trombone
3:56 ESPERAS QUE TODA LA ORQUESTA SEA LLEVADA POR UN TORNADO Y NO DEJAS DE IMAGINARTE QUE MICKEY SIGUE DIRIGIENDO,
I'm glad they didn't rush the tempo
awesome...it looks like there's black light on the timpani at 2:22 :p
Can someone tell me in what minute and seconds the opera became dynamic? I have a HW to do. Thanks.
Very good version, maybe the woodwind should have played more piano at the beggining of the thunder but anyway I liked it a lot, the trombonists are awesome!
Could someone please tell me the details of the DVD so I can
obtain a copy. Many thanks.
@k73f why do they think they can leave this out
@initotwinit no, but actually the second movement sounds almost like it... =)
@bagelj yah me to. Alexi laho or whatever get his influence from classic composers. Hes the singer for Children of Bodom i think.
Sad that we refer to an old cowboy TV show to jog people's memories on what great music it really is.
I want to find the conductor score to this piece. Can anyone help me?
@Alismyanodyne
=] Adrian Morris. Used to teach me for a while.
Someone had an epileptic seizure when trying to press the "like" button.
@tptmaster90 4:02 amazing!
I was wondering why this sounded faimler, was this song featured in Bambi???
I still prefer the Disney version of it in "The Band Concert"
"the theme of the lone ranger"??? No its the theme of Rossini's opera Guillaume Tell, which was stolen for use as a theme of a radio show.
3:56 Cue tornado!
who is the first cello?
LOL)))))) It's simple to imagine!)))
every time I hear this, it reminds me of a certain Mickey Mouse cartoon...
@initotwinit
Looney Tunes used all parts of this Overture in many cartoons
4:34 epic
1 dislike!... he doesn't HOW to listen!.. :D
@rommelrakista I know...1 dislike...that person doesn't understand it....HATER!
2:10 Funny, the cellit looks like he is about to start crying.
Where are Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck? Remembering the old cartoon.
The amount of people coughing during the execution is unrespecting! >:(
3:50
Wow, this audience is ridiculous. I though the were playing Rossini, not Rimsky-Korsacough... ;)
3:13 this video;
4:27 in v=NGvxcz0JiUc
SAME GIRL! =D
all i can hear is people coughing and clearing their throats. ...forever unclean
I am Tuba Player but no Tuba ... T.T /sad
I'm sure and I can tell the performance is good. Pity the dreadful acoustics of the RAH ruins everything.
4:24- 4:34 is the best part and the rest is a snooze fest.
Picture a fat guy going down a hill on a skateboard at 3:55
crap, crap, crap!!!!! I lost my favorite version.
this is beautiful. I don't get the small minded comments. oh, that's what they mean by trolls
