According to researchers from the University of Connecticut who conducted an analysis of available studies on this topic, paternal love is at least as important as maternal love for a child's development. The researchers have compelling arguments to support this claim. Firstly, the results of research projects conducted in various parts of the world indicate that children who experience rejection become more nervous, feel threatened, and start behaving more aggressively towards others. These effects tend to carry over into adulthood, leading to difficulties in forming secure and trusting relationships.
Research has shown that a child is usually more sensitive to the behavior of one of their parents, often the father. The authors of the study, along with psychologists from 13 different countries participating in the International Father Acceptance Rejection Project, propose a theory that suggests a child particularly responds to the attitude of the parent they perceive as having more power in interpersonal relationships and greater prestige. Therefore, it turns out that paternal love is one of the critical elements in a person's personality development.
