WOW! Welcome to my hometown! Wish I had know you and Steph were here; I’d have come by to say hi! It’s been a while since I’ve been to the Arboretum and it was kind of sad then. Some of the infrastructure needed some TLC and the drought has been very hard on the garden. I hope it looked better the day you were there.

Rose Creek abelias are the best!! Gorgeous year round in z8a NC Sandhills. Right now covered with still-fragrant rose colored remains of the blooms and pollinators still enjoying them. Tough, drought tolerant.

As someone who is subtropical, not quite Tropical and not quite Temperate, I can see a few factors about the tropical bed that I am sure Mr. Putnam is aware of. The wall and canopy make it so that much of the tropicals in that bed will survive the first frost or two. And maybe it is perspective, but it almost looks like that area is sunken as well. For many tropicals, this would be the ideal protection for anything that isn't a hard freeze.

Beautiful garden! Every Spring I purchase one medium sized tradescantia wandering dude plant from the big box store. I take cuttings and place them in pots, throw them on the ground and they root like crazy without being invasive. They take off and pair beautifully with anything. One plant turns into like 50!

Anyone know the variety of the shorter/mounding asters at the end? Thanks as always for a neat tour of somewhere I never knew about!
