- We are jumping straight into the 1993 Mazda FD Rx7 today! I have made the executive decision to push the FD to the front of the line to get working. For the most part, this build should hopefully be pretty straightforward.
We will also rebuild our 13B and maybe do a small street port on it to get some of the rotary braps that we all know and love! I will say though that this Mazda is a little confusing compared to what I am typically used to as the car was pretty torn down and I get to put it back together. But even though it's weird and different we will get it figured out and live again!

That’s the best part about a project. Knowing nothing about it and learning everything about it. I could build a 350 big block with my eyes closed but knew nothing about ejs. Saw your channel then bought a 2012 outback with the ej253 and it was so fun learning it!
One of the best feelings is learning new things. EJs I know like the back of my hand but this is entirely new 🎉
The big orange seals you mentioned are called coolant seals, just FYI. Premix will help lubricate the corner and side seals as well, not just apex seals. Its also recommended to use Hylomar for seal instillation when you are rebuilding.
Athens sent me a tube of the Hylomar with the kit so glad you mentioned that 🥳 was curious what it was for lol

You should try to keep it mostly original if possible it would look amazing
FYI the carpeting is no longer available from Mazda so be extremely careful with the carpet. If those factory floor mats are still available I'd order a couple sets before they're gone.

Had re-amemiya full body on my rx. swapped a Cosmo and microtech ems myself. had everything I wanted except reliability...lol

What a bummer that BOSE monstrosity is built into the design like that. I know there's some fanboys out there, but they really make overpriced voodoo garbage, especially in this vintage. BOSE = BUY OTHER SOUND EQUIPMENT

I have recently listened to Aaron Parker in HP Academy podcast Tuned in. He has an FD and he is competing with it in Formula drift. I am sure you know him....
They were discussing the 13B and they mentioned the oil metering pump too.
And basically they are not againts deleting it, however in stock application they recommended not to.
If you decide to delete it nonetheless. Make sure to have a good premix. What he recommended is 2:1 and before you get scared 😂 its not 2 parts fuel and 1 oil.
It is 2 oz of lube per 1 galon of fuel.
I would recommend to listen to the podcast it was very informative.
Fd rx7 are lit!!!!!! Say um on my bugeye did subaru do a cylinder 3 to cylinder 1 coil pack ground wire splice then a wire going the factory grounding on the intake manifold? It's bad on my car wondering if I do single wires will it mess up anything like tgvs or injectors? Or should I just redo the splice.
CG has like 3 good products. I would suggest a Kranzle pressure washer though. Koch-Chemi for soaps and etc. CarPro & 3D are top tier products to use as-well.

I would definitely recommend joining the rx7club forums. Pretty much every question you can ask has been answered there at some point in the past decades. It has been a great resource for me while trying to rebuild my FD.

This version if the rx line is the most beautiful (from the outside) and performant. However, it had many inherent problems that I don’t think are going to be easily overcome. Summaries of this vehicles problems are available online so do some thorough research, so you aren’t just making video after video of sad tales of the woes of making this a reliable daily driver.
Have patience and get lots of Vaseline. I’ve had good luck with atkins stuff but everyone will have a different preference. Keep the motor stock port if you’re learning the motor then get into porting when you understand it more. Especially how temperamental they are. You can get the braps from tuning.

Sitting for 10years Id do a little bit of preventive maintenance as well. New fuel pump and filter would be highly recommended, especially since youre doing the oil metering delete

Look into getting a sohn adapter. Will feed clean oil into system. You won't hav to add as much premix.
If you have one good headlight bracket .. make them in a 3d plastic printer. Just a thought.

Have you thought about putting an ej in it? Please do what you want but like you said you are well versed in the ej and I've never heard of an ej swapped FD before lol
So I live in Cali really hot weather all the time rarely rains or even snows and I bought Michelin sport 4s for my 2017 Sti worth it ?
Imagine having the body strength to do all this. My memories of working on my razor scooter with no back pain in the 90s is prime.

Get an artec or Vinny fab turbo manifold and run a greddy v mount and this thing will be sick. The stock twins aren't great.
Hey Tanner-I just dumped some of the Techron complete fuel system cleaner into my 4Runner and my Kia Stinger GT which is running an E30 mix. According to Chevron the Techron Complete fuel system cleaner is safe with E mixed up to E85.

You know how to put trany fluid in the motor to get the apex seals to swell up so you get more psi in the motor? I do have the Compression tester for that bad boy if you need it I can send it to you but I need it back and I also have the numbers to figure out the compression it’s a lot of math
Always loved the FDs. I have been eyeing a 01 RS coupe but its 4.5 hours away from me, an then theres the idea of the STI tranny swap in my 22, decisions decisions haha.
Ayyy bro just remember on the ecu choice the rotary needs 2 ignition outputs for each rotor, ie 4 for 2 and 6 for 3 etc.
That spray foam looks fun, id be spraying everything with it . Including the old lady walking down the street
Don't try to modify the surface of the inside of the engine. Find a specialist if there is internal damage

For the techron, you need to make sure it's comparable with 2 stroke oil, if it is, then you're good to run it, if not, then you're not gonna have a good time...

If you aren't already, you should give a peep to Rob Dahm's rotary build videos. He has a great video on the no-BS do's and don'ts for rebuilding a 13b. He debunks some of the BS stuff that you don't need to do, and the things to look out for. it's super thorough and I definitely recommend it. Dahm's channel is quickly becoming the defacto encyclopedia of Rotary knowledge
