    Nobody can even come close to the powerhouse that is Tom Jones, he puts his own mark on every song he sings and knocks everyone else out of the water. This man has the best voice on the planet and there is no one to rival him even now. Yes there are other great versions but for me Tom Jones is in a class of his own. Absolutely incredible

    I've had the pleasure of going to 12 Tom Jones concerts all at New York's Westbury Hall. Sir Tom didn"t ever disappoint. His voice and stage presence r unbelievable and :yes: he sounds even better in person. God Blessed Him 'The voice never once failed him. He's adorable and funny. His rendition of Danny Boy, Only Once and MY Way is unbelievable.. That Welsh accent doesn;t hurt either. He is 'THE VOICE' of the 60's, 70's.80's 90's and right up to now 2015.

      @@natevirtual Jackie Wilson has an amazing voice. To me, when he sang Danny Boy, he was mainly interested in showing off what he could do with his voice and wasn't really thinking of the words at all. All those runs and really high notes were off-putting to me. I prefer Tom's very emotional version

    • @PutOnASweater
      @PutOnASweater 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lucyjune You are so very wrong.Jackie's version is soulful and deep. After he released Danny Boy, it became the most requested song at his concerts, even though he had many much bigger hits. It never failed to get a standing ovation. I was at a club in Hollywood when Elvis came down to see Jackie perform. Elvis went absolutely crazy when Jackie was on stage. When he performed Danny boy, you would have thought Elvis was going to piss his pants . He went totally ballistic .
      Tom was a big fan of Jackie Wilson...he borrowed heavily from Jackie's arrangement and admitted that he took a lot from Jackie...you can never out do Jackie. He was the best and no one has come close to this man's talent.

      I think it was the drummer from the Squires who was used on the first batch of shows here and Big Jim on geeetar, then they got Johnnie Spence and his orchestra for later shows and a BIG step up in quality...also jazz drummer Kenny Clair on drums with Big Jim and possibly John Rostil on bass geeetar...

    This is a fabulous live version of this classic song. It is even better live than the recording version . His TV show and vocals on it were amazing and it’s amazing that he is still singing/recording today. Thank goodness his son took over his management later on and got him away from his Vegas days and back to his roots.

    .....and there he is, up on stage, practicing his shagging moves!
    Blokes have the girls, twerking, shaking their bits, wearing next-to-nothing.
    Older women have this: Tom was the real deal...he could sing with a voice like no other, and could he move! No wonder they used to chuck their knickers at him on stage!!!
    As a 63y/o woman now, this makes me giggle. Back in the day I was far too young to understand why my eldest sister used to melt watching stuff like this. But there's no denying this man just screamed sex appeal - and he didn't mind showing it!
    And his Voice.....very few singers have reached Tom's age and still have a Voice as sttong and pure. Can't forget his stage presence - with that same clarity and power. Beautiful.
    Yep, a Welsh Treasure.....back in the day he definitely was our own Elvis.
    (My personal fav: "I'll never fall in love again".....lump-in-the-throat every time I hear it❤)

    I personally have seen Jackie Wilson's version of Danny Boy...It is wonderful no doubt, but it simply did not move me like Tom's version did! To me, his version is the BEST. The only one I've found that is a very close second is Andy William's version! Jackie was an outstanding performer but his version contained too much falsetto and scale fluctuation for a song such like Danny Boy...Nonetheless, Jackie's version is better than anything anyone today could do...

    I had never heard Jackie wilson's version before, so I listenend. I liked it very much and I can see why you think Tom took after it, but I still think it is unfair to say he copied. Wilson has a falsetto voice where TOm maintains his Welsh tenor, baritone and personally I find Tom's version more sincere and majestic, but I enjoyed Jackie Wilson's very much and no doubt he influenced TOm.
