Thanks for putting these videos together in a very easy way to understand! It’s been incredibly easy to find the different things that I need to learn quickly for a collaborative project with someone who’s 2000 miles away. I’ve been asked to supply the artist with a few guitar riffs, intro etc. Your videos are a fantastic resource for getting a very fast crash course in Reaper. I thought it would take me a couple years to get to where I am in understanding the methods and a lot more of the nuances that are time killers yet essential! Thank you!
Man, im fighting with getting my ez drummer 2 to sync with my Reaper , no luck yet and your making me think of trying this in the meantime...great video! Thx
2inchfromtheground sorry, but the topics covered in these videos aren't made more difficult or rendered useless because of some colour and visual differences. You're right that there's a comment about the posters Reaper looking different, but no suggestion of not being able to follow the videos content. As I said, I appreciate your feedback but unless the viewers start to say they have a problem following anything covered, I think it's a non issue. 👍🙂
If you check out his early videos he has mentioned what theme he is using, now you dont expect him to mention what theme he is using on his every video do you? If you do its just lame as.
There is a point to be made here - if one is doing tutorials for a comprehensive product based on the viewer/user's ability to watch, listen, follow and navigate a complex GUI, one might consider using stock before custom. The majority of people looking for assistance won't have gotten anywhere near customizing the interface before having figured out some basics - like tempo settings and scratch tracks. There are a lot of beautiful themes for Reaper but many of them shuffle things like controls, buttons, sliders, arming devices and such in ways that, for example, are useful for people coming from other DAWs but meaningless to someone who just discovered what a DAW is and how amazing Reaper can be. . Something to consider moving forward as you grow your channel and advance your subscriber numbers (like me!). I really like and enjoy your tutes and your tips come in handy - so thanks!
life saver. just got my interface after months of looking over this stuff to see how it works. I was "like I GOT THIS RIGHT" then hook it all up and dam..........where am I???? old school right?? mixer and a bunch of guys tuned up....somebody count it off!!!! lets go home and let the engineer have at it. LOL!!! LOL!!! LOL!!! no wonder those guys get paid so much!!!! THANKS BRO. I see many hours locked in to your vibe. THE WIFE SAYS......WELL we'll leave that for now. I'll let ya know after I get some tracks down. later.
William Farrar just keep at it and give your lovely bride bucks for shoes or whatever she's into lol. If you buy a new guitar, buy the same color. You'd be amazed how long you can get away with that before the shit storm happens, my wife doesn't know a Strat from a Les Paul lol. This might work for the girls playing and recording too. Just keep at it man!
2:47 you can work with drums if you want to, you can leave your drums behind, but if drums don't play, then we won't play, and they're no drums of mine.
Great tutorial Question: have been trying to set up layout so that the master is to the left and stretched from top to bottom as in yours. Would you be so kind to show how this is done, please?
When i have a 'record-enabled' channel, i cannot hear the channel's signal through the monitors (but i can hear what's already been recorded). I need to be able to hear what i'm doing, while performing to the tracks already recorded. Is there a way to hear both the enabled channel *and* the other tracks i've already recorded? Thanks for your tutorials! DW
Right click the 'record ready' button and click MONITOR INPUT. This simply monitors the sound being input in to the track. That way you can hear what's been recorded, and what you are currently recording.
Really new to this, i bought a Behringer U-Phoria UM2 as my interface, have my guitar through my pedalboard connected to my Orange Micro Terror then the amp's headphone out to the inst input of the UM2 (line 2) then usb to the laptop. The issue is reaper doesnt seem to recognize any signal from the interface although i chose usb under audio device. If i used audacity it records fine, what am i missing?
ReaperTV currently set to waveout and input and ouput via usb, if i changed it to Asio4all it doesnt have the option for usb input just the 2 mics option
It's because when I record system audio (to get the sound that Reaper is outputting) my mic is set to mono in the screen capture software. I generally edit the audio in Reaper to set the voice over back to centre / mono, but looks like I missed a portion of about 45 seconds about 6:15 in to the video. I guess I really shouldn't edit videos after a few beers, a gig and at 2am in the morning. lol Cheers for the heads up :0)
3:12. Yeah no. The metronome in reaper is by default set to play the first beat quieter and lower pitch than the rest which is ridiculous in my opinion. Maybe im just used to the opposite but I have never heard any other metronome click like that, the first beat should ALWAYS be accented.
Hi, when laying down "pan left" and "pan right" guitar rhythm tracks can you use identical(copy/paste) track for each or better yet can you play on both tracks at same time instead of having to play each of them separately? Thank you, Mike LevRage.com
I use a different Reaper theme for mine. You can find out more in these videos:th-cam.com/video/O77wGMb0d7ch/w-d-xo.htmlttps://th-cam.com/video/n2DNR292ZKM/w-d-xo.html
I bought Reaper to record the 2 originals in my channel, if you wanna check it out, I'd aprecciate that. (I didn't have any experience in recording & mixing and Reaper was really helpful)

Im more interested in how you created those folders in your windows desktop, ezkeys, toontrack folders?
I don't see the EZ mix in my Reaper FX effects. Was that a separate plugin download?
the first thing to say is that you are using a theme for reaper so your tutorial will not be understood by many people just getting into the program
Well, thank you for your feedback but haven't seen anyone complaining about it in over 130 tutorials, so I guess it isn't an issue for anyone else :0)
ReaperTV 5 comments down and you replied to it but okay sure

Brilliant mate, thanks for the help!
Hi, can you please tell me what is those buttons for guitar, drums, bass etc, on top left, and how can i get them?
For those who use Reaper, and happen to play drums, how user friendly is this DAW for a newb?
I have learned a lot. I'll watch all of your tutorials, thanks for sharing knowledge!
My pleasure., glad you're learning from them :)
Man this makes me have the itch to get back into recording again!!
thank you for explaining
is easy mix already installed in reaper?
No, it's a commercial VST from Toontrack :0)
Isn't this song "Doctor Alibi" - Slash ft.Lemmy ?
I see the resemblance, but no, it's not Dr Alibi.
Yea, I was just.. You know.. Joking?? . ah.. Have a nice day!!

Hi, what reaper's theme do you use? it looks quite nice - thanks a lot for your answer
Lol
What theme is it?
Great tutorial as usual. Was wondering, what is that color tool you use in the top left above the main track?
It's just a couple of custom actions assigned to buttons that apply a preset colour to the selected track. Pretty quick and handy. :)

DW
i think you need to set playback options from preferances
Turn on the speaker icon...which is the track monitor button
Right click the 'record ready' button and click MONITOR INPUT.
This simply monitors the sound being input in to the track. That way you can hear what's been recorded, and what you are currently recording.

The issue is reaper doesnt seem to recognize any signal from the interface although i chose usb under audio device. If i used audacity it records fine, what am i missing?
Does Reaper see the audio interface?
Have you tried using the ASIO4ALL drivers for your interface instead of the manufacturer drivers?
ReaperTV currently set to waveout and input and ouput via usb, if i changed it to Asio4all it doesnt have the option for usb input just the 2 mics option
Hi. Pretty stupid question but I'm new in reaper. How to select area when making midi map?
Right click and drag :)
your voice over is panned hard right for some of the video
It's because when I record system audio (to get the sound that Reaper is outputting) my mic is set to mono in the screen capture software. I generally edit the audio in Reaper to set the voice over back to centre / mono, but looks like I missed a portion of about 45 seconds about 6:15 in to the video.

LevRage you can but you lose the natural stereo effect. You could offset by a few milliseconds bit 2 separate tales sounds better.
Thank you for the fast reply man! So are you saying it is better to have natural timing errors?
LevRage most definitely.. You can always tighten things up if needed afterwards.
my reaper looks nothing like yours
I use a different Reaper theme for mine. You can find out more in these videos:th-cam.com/video/O77wGMb0d7ch/w-d-xo.htmlttps://th-cam.com/video/n2DNR292ZKM/w-d-xo.html

I'm so confused wtf
why the fuck make a tutorial where your software looks different ? Why make it harder ? fucking joke im out
This isn´t song writing it´s experimenting, not a word about melody, that´s why there´s so much crap out there.
Christo Reeds who mentioned 'song writing'? I think you've missed the point here.
