Hello from Greece! I have just been given a PE 200 'Snoopy' machine. We downloaded the service manual and did a little tweaking as the belt was slipping. Otherwise works fine. I was also given the PE Design software and card reader/writer which is proving much more of a challenge. The design software was written in 1997 so the program file formats aren't compatible with any versions of Windows after about Windows 2000! I have also tried to get the card reader/writer PE Basic to work but once again, compatibility issues as it needs a serial port and doesn't like a serial port/USB adaptor. The person who gave me the machine bought it second-hand from a UK sports club which used it for making badges so the only cards I have are sport themed. For the moment I am going to concentrate on the inbuilt fonts and motifs and see if any inexpensive compatible cards come my way 🙂

Hi from Sydney. Very helpful. But the light was shining on the machines window that made it difficult at times to see what you were doing, if you had just moved the machine facing the camera a bit more it would have been much better. Rita

Hi. Thanks for the feedback. I found it quite hard to film without glare but I tried to minimise it best I could.

Gosh I am so happy I found your video 👏. I bought a Brother PE-180D machine with no idea how to use it. It looks just like this 190-D so I’m hoping everything will work the same. The one I bought didn’t have any cards with it. I was wondering do you have any tips on importing designs to use or where I can find the cards or have to make them? I really appreciate any advice and help you can offer. This helps tremendously. Thank you for sharing 👍👍 Stay safe healthy and happy 😃✝️🇺🇸 PS I would love to see more videos/tutorials on this lovely machine.

As far as I know, there was a scanner available and you'd need blank cards. Maybe keep an eye out on auction sites for cards. Thanks.

I have the PE Basic card reader/writer and was hoping to use it to download PES files off the internet and copy them onto a card to use but I have hardware and software compatibility problems. There are newer versions of the PE Basic which work with a USB port rather than a serial port but they are about 300 US dollars on the internet secondhand, with no guarantees.

@Adriana Shum Gosh, i know if you're lucky enough to find something, it's so expensive that it doesn't make sense to buy it. Happy New Year ✝️ 🇺🇸

@@adrianashum4186 Is the issue that you are having Windows refusing to install the drive because it isn't "signed" by Microsoft? If so, drop down to #2 and install a virtual box on your PC (or Mac). The virtual box is nice for a couple of reasons, the first being that what happens over in the virtual box stays in the virtual box and won't mess up your main OS. Second, backing up your virtual box is as simple as making a copy of the "machine" (a file usually around 50GB or so) and using the most recent copy to restore your virtual box OS.
I can imagine that you are having problems, there are multiple pages of 1 star reviews. What a piece of junk.
      Here's another route:
Find yourself a cheap Magic Box/Amazing Box (they are the same hardware from what I can tell). And with luck you will get the card as well. But you're going to have a few issues:
      1) Be sure that the cables are included.
I've seen them for sale on eBay without the "wallwart" power supply. Be sure that it comes with it, but if the price is really good these can be replaced rather easily. The serial cable is most likely a null modem cable and the USB to serial adapter should be able to plug directly into the box without the cable. And there currently is an auction for a box that has a broken power connector. It probably will still work, but I would want the seller to lower the price to reflect the condition of the box.
      2) The software for these devices is old and will not run on a modern 64-bit PC.
Not a problem, go here and (legally) get Windows XP for free: www.makeuseof.com/tag/download-windows-xp-for-free-and-legally-straight-from-microsoft-si/ Follow their instructions for installing it to a virtual machine. I would caution you *not* to set up the Windows XP side to connect to the Internet since XP won't last long on the Internet these days...
Remember what I said about the boxes looking the same? There's a good chance that either version of the software will work with either box. So download the software from the the boxes site.
      3) New PCs don't have a serial port these days.
The serial port issue can be solved by getting a cheap USB to serial converter. eBay has them for as low as $7.77 with free shipping. Be sure that the driver supports Windows XP and earlier. The reason for this is because you are going to need to run the software in the virtual box that you have Windows XP setup in.
And remember, you still have to find a card, specifically a "Brother" card, for it.
I'm a retired Controls Engineer and we face this sort of problem (or much worse) as part of the job. Companies aren't going to chuck out their machinery just because Microsoft upgraded Windows. So we have to set up PCs that match the environment that the software was written for (all the while dodging the guys from IT that want to tell us what software to use). Did I mention that I'm retired? Some one else's problem from here on out. :)
I have a PE-180D that I guess that it's time to pull the cover off of and see if I can add something like a Gotek and bypass all of this silliness.

I have had this machine from about the time you said, late nineties. I was given the machine and due to circumstances I have never used it, so the condition is as new. I liked your demonstration as I have no knowledge of machine embroidery. I will take the machine to be checked out and then will probably try to sell it.
    Thankyou for your demo.

I have the machine too. Can you insert your own designs using the card? If so, how?

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi. Not sure if you can put your own designs on the card. Maybe try reading an original card with a card reader attached to a computer. You may be able to ascertain format type (probably FAT32) and file types from there. Then format a blank card, if you can find one, and then download or produce a file of the appropriate type. Thanks.
