  • I never pay for campsites! I go dispersed camping instead!
    You can go camping on most public land!
    Dispersed camping refers to camping outside of designated campgrounds, allowing individuals to find their own secluded spots in natural settings. This form of camping is ideal for those seeking solitude, adventure, and a closer connection to nature. Unlike developed campgrounds, dispersed camping areas lack facilities such as toilets, running water, and established campsites.
    Just make sure to practice leave no trace and leave it better than you found it!

    Thank you for mentioning "Leave no trace." I wish more people practiced this.

    This may be a dumb question but where do you use the bathroom if you’re supposed to “leave no trace” 😂

    • @getwanderlost
      @getwanderlost  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Not a dumb question. You can dig a proper cat-hole if you're in an area where its okay or you can do what I do and pack it out with a camp toilet.

    How do you know if your on taxpayer public land or private land? I would hate to get shot because I accidentally landed in private property.

      I use GIA GPS to keep track of public vs private land.

    Do you just find off road trails? Or do you make your own trail?

    • @getwanderlost
      @getwanderlost  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Definitely just find off road trails! The desert is a very fragile ecosystem so making your own trail ends up damaging 100s of years of plant growth and promotes erosion.

      @getwanderlost  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I have a propane fire pit for that. It’s not my favorite but it does help scratch that itch.

      you cant disperse camp in texas?

      Not that you can’t but we’re very limited on places. Most of the land it privately owned. The national forests are restricted during hunting season and that’s pretty much all winter.

      Yea it's extremely difficult to find places here in Texas. It's a shame that there's so much empty land that can't be enjoyed. There's a few areas on the Gulf coast, East Texas and West Texas. If you live in central then it's at least a 4 or 5 hour drive to anywhere and you have to know where they are cause it's not really publicly available information.

    I pay for campsites for safety reasons.
    I don’t feel safe going alone with my kids in the middle of nowhere.
    Especially knowing that criminals like to visit blm lands. It’s not animals I fear so much, it’s bad people.
    Maybe for men it’s safer because they can defend them better than I can.
    I just don’t want to risk it.
    So I settle for paying

      I feel like paid crowded campgrounds have a higher risk than going into the middle of nowhere where you may run into a few other people.

      Dispersed camping is great as long as people respect the land and leave no trace.
