- So many people when they hear the word "Mindanao" are prone to talking about danger, "bad people" and conflict. It is moments like this that inspire me, and moments like this that encourage me to continue sharing the beauty of this part of the Philippines.
I had 11 amazing young foreign friends come visit my home "Region 10" for a few days. I took them on a journey around my hometown Cagayan de Oro, and to the province of Bukidnon which is just nearby! This Video is a prime example of what it is like travelling around Northern Mindano….
Except there is a little bit of added extras as I tried to convince my friends to do a few Filipino things… such as Videoke, eating balut, and riding around in Motorelas (or in this case singing in one).
Of course we had lot of "Tagay" and my friends had a taste of both Red Horse, and Tanduay! Local Style on the streets and at a cold springs!

I'm really angry on how personalities in media/news and even the Philippine govenment always told us in tv about "giyera sa mindanao, terorismo sa mindanao, etc". When in reality there are only few areas in mindanao that are dangerous and eversince I was born I haven't ever experience any sort of terrorism in my place(Misamis Occidental). Ewan ko ba kung bakit parang ang sariling gobyerno din naman ang sumisira sa imahe ng Mindanao, huwag na man sana nilang lahatin.. You really are a savior of the image of Mindanao and the Philippines.. You are a hero.... :)

Just read a book called The Trail of Maximo Bonga, set in Philippines, about a foreign traveller who stays at the guest house of an old Filipino WWII veteran. Couldn't put it down. Very funny.

Hey Kyle! Love your videos! My filipino friend directed me to your channel today, no clue how I missed it! Love everything you do, someday I'll be back to do the same. :)
I visited Zamboanga City in Mindanao in May 2013 after graduating from Liberty University 2 days prior. Little did my friend and I know that he had distant family that was unknowingly part of the MNLF (MILF at the time). Crazy crazy story, but his dad noticed familiar/harmful people were searching nearby roads and must have been looking for me. Myself, my friend, his mom, and some of his sisters spent a day in a motel with guards. Next thing I know we tell one of his sisters we are at the mall (a lie as we suspected something bad was going on), and told his dad. That day his dad contacted his police friends and were able to track down and arrest 5 guys at the mall known for terrorist acts and kidnapping. Some members were MILF and some were Abu Sayyaf. They were their waiting for me to kidnap for ransom and possible worse. I'm blessed to be alive and well, but even through the bad, I saw so much good through the people when I fled to Malolos, Bulacan for safety at another siblings house of my friend. I fell in love with the country and people for the month I was there and plan to go back. I'm currently applying to teach English with the Peace Corps there, but hope to find another way to go back if that falls through.
