I never understand how so many inconsistencies get into movies based on real events. The way the plane was flown would be as detached from reality as if the cars were just driving sideways.
True. There was no need to dive on the runway - with engines out and that much altitude he could have setup on the glide slope, taken his sweet time and put it down like a feather.
@@PanRider939 Right? This shit is just getting ridiculous. Obviously some dumbass decided he needed to cut the damn grass in a dive to get enough airspeed to relight because otherwise that situation was soooo boring. And when the engine does relight it's like a goddamn rocket, because jet engines don't spool up, right?
Am I misunderstanding or does nothing here make sense? The officer on the ground tells him to not extinguish the fire, because it will shut down the engine - presumably because the plane would be lost. But an engine fire would probably destroy the plane anyway. Then, he tells the pilot to eject - which would destroy the plane anyway. Then, the pilot kills the engine, but risks everything to dive down and restart it. The engine restarts only a few seconds from landing on the runway. If he could do that, he could easily have just come in for an unpowered landing. What?
So from my understanding they didn't want him to use the fire extinguishing system at the start because they thought he could still save the plane , then when the situation is clarified they tell him to eject , which he tries to do , but since he can't eject he has to land the plane so he dives but I'm guessing he was going to slow to pull up enough until he managed to restart the engine started the engine
In the original, the guy on the ground, banned the fire extinguishing system, because he was afraid that after it the engine would not start. He gave the order to descend to 1000 meters, direct the plane to fall into the field (so that it would not fall into residential buildings) and the pilot to eject. But the technician forgot to remove the safety pin from the catapult. The catapult didn't work. The pilot had no other choice. He turned off the engine to stop the fuel supply, knocked out the flame with a stream of air, and started the engine again. The Mig-15 in reality could not plan very well. And I do not know how the dubbing was translated.

It is fast action; but he tries to eject but the safety pin has been left in. He then kills the engine to deal with fire. Restarts to control landing and just makes it. He then removes the pin on landing so the crew chief and his friend won’t get in trouble. He take blame for foolhardy stunt asserting he wanted to save aircraft. The General observes that such a fool hardy pilot may be what they need. In the film the scientists and engineers are shown to be pressed by politicians to get rocket in orbit to beat the Americans. The space craft is not properly tested - why they need a cool but fool hardy pilot to take command. In the end a Ham radio operator saves the day but is told to be quiet the capsule landed way off course. It is a great tale and apparently true.
Not just them, the same thing happened to the CO of Willow Grove NAS He went up in a Panther or Cougar and flamed out over Trenton and had to nurse it home because someone hadn't pulled the seat pin

LOL sure .... its the same stupid bullshit like hollywood, nothing more. Engine is on fire ? shut it down of course and just land the stupid plane with a deadstick - every pilot can do it, esp. fighter pilots. The runway is trillion km long , he is 30234235235 km high ... just fly and land ... But no, its fucking hollywoodski. Going into a dive, with a burning engine, extinguish the engine and than restarting it ?????? WTF ?? that is impossible, you cant fucking restart an engine after the fire extinguisher where used .... just russian bullshit . They had so much time to learn from all the mistakes that hollywood made, and now ? they do the very same bullshit -.... just 20 years later ^^
Saw one of these being flown with a compressor stall I think on YT they landed without issues. Such a great aircraft. Was surprised at how small it was.
The movie actually came out in Russia in 2017. Great space exploration movie, in tone it's quite similar to "Apollo 13" in how a mission can jump from success to complete disaster and back to success. Solid special effects, the majority of the movie is Leonov's spacewalk and the following search & rescue after their Vostok (or was it Soyuz?) capsule lands in Siberia. Lacks the heavy propaganda angle that the contemporary "Saluyt-7" has. I strongly recommend to watch it with in the original Russian audio, if nothing else, for authenticity's sake. Definitely among the best space exploration movies I've seen.
Actually, Belyayev & Leonov's capsule was Voskhod 2. Only 2 Voskhods were flown. Similar to Vostock but multi seat. First flight was in 1964, crewed by Komarov, Feoktistov & Yegorov. Day long flight notable for being made without space-suits. Not enough room?
He was already in a steep dive, no need to restart the engine to land. Perhaps the english translation was off. The effects look good though. Rather watch it with subtitles and original audio.
no. that's not going to happen. this is not a comedy. this is a feature film based on real events. but then, the technician who forgot to pull out this pin will save Leonov's life.
The dubbing is... weird. That tough general wouldn’t sound like a shoe salesman. And the pilot was a slow talker, as he should be. But his vo dub sounded like they were on speed.
Yes👍 I agree! I've tried watching a few other Russian movies recently and they had the same problem. I will say that their CGI is pretty decent tho...if they did a better job with dubbing in the English and matched the voices better the movies would b much easier to watch for me. ✌
It brings home how brave the cosmonauts (my favourites were Gagarin and Leonov of course 😊) were and how the Russian engineers also fought against the adversity of the ...unpredictable. 👍👍🇷🇺
I applaud the Russian producers for this effort. The Russian space program was everybit as exciting and groundbreaking as the American effort. This is a film long overdue! (But nothing can beat Tom Wolfe's semi-fictional novel-turned movie... one of the century's best films)
Youre obviously not a pilot. Those jets don't glide nice and easy like a piper cub! They drop like a rock because they're not aerodynamically designed for gliding. Altitude gives you time just to problem solve or try moving the jet away from populated areas for ejection
@@imperatorlightoneous1382 mk. Well he couldn't eject. He's out in no man's land. He's maybe 3 miles from the strip. Instead of making for it he goes into a step dive with little altitude and fires the engine basically at touch down. Regardless of the glide capabilities it's still ridiculous decision making for theatrics.
It's nice to see a modern Russian, or German movie, about combat, or especially aviation/exploration. I WISH the US could explore this idea, but I also understand it would ( probably) come at a financial loss. I won't say all US movies are US propaganda, Involving war/cold war. But a lot are. Today, media has almost no boundaries. So happy to see the stories from all sides. :) Our grandfather's may have fought, but we don't. ( And hopefully not!) Much love to see even deeper untold, or lesser known stories come to light. :: Raises glass:: cheers, my fellow pioneers.
Can I get a history check on this? Absolutely no need to have the engine to make a safe landing in this situation, I'd have thought, unless there is somehow no hydraulic backup for the landing gear?
Not true - the engine is necessary for two reasons: you can't glide in a jet fighter dead-stick as they fly like a breeze-block without thrust (that's why Leonov went into such a steep dive to keep airspeed and avoid stalling); you need the engine on to provide the hydraulic pressure for the flight control asist and to lower the gear. Remember, this is a first-generation jet and system backups were few. This sequence is very realistic!
@@sprintrider100 You... can glide in a MiG 15. You just have to be going fast enough. Stall speed is 150mph, which is high, but achievable with the altitude he had. Considering he lands almost immediately after pulling out of a high speed dive, he's going way faster than he needs to be, and clearly doesn't need the engine at all for speed. His altitude was already enough for a good approach engine free. Secondly, MiG 15 is small and light enough that lack of power for the control surfaces isn't going to make it unflyable. He would have had a much less dangerous landing just by doing a spiral descent, leveling out and flaring along the runway, engine free. From what this scene shows, all the engine re-light in the dive achieved was causing him to come in way too fast and nearly fail to recover the dive at all. Just done for dramatic effect I'd bet.
In the then Soviet airforce aircrews were mostly given non officer rank. They mostly went through local flying clubs and into the airforce. Only a few went to University training. The Russian also had a long tradition of not sending officers to Academies until after a few years of on the job training. Many were conscripts themselves. Like the US air forces of the Cold War the Soviets had a huge Air Force and quickly trained men as fast as they could. Yuri Gagarin was at a technical school and did flight cadet training as part of his national service. He was selected out of thousands of applicants as he was a very cool and able pilot and short enough to fit into the capsule- he should’ve been in flight training as he was too short. He could not see over the cockpit without sitting on a cushion. By time he finished cosmonaught training he was an old lieutenant but the Premier had him promoted to Major while in orbit.

I never understand how so many inconsistencies get into movies based on real events. The way the plane was flown would be as detached from reality as if the cars were just driving sideways.
They don’t? Crap I’m doing it wrong.
Dont get me started....
Thrilling and pretty on-the-money accuracy-wise. And yes, I can fly.
This movie is actually from 2017, and it's my favorite space movie, based on true events.
What?
Russian movies man. The only thing u have to understand its vodka. Thats all. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is how they learned to do pre-flight check list 🤣
Not just them, the same thing happened to the CO of Willow Grove NAS He went up in a Panther or Cougar and flamed out over Trenton and had to nurse it home because someone hadn't pulled the seat pin

This film is at least two years old..I've seen it through twice.
Indeed. It's from 2017 I believe...
Is the name the same or different? Like one wanted to find the original 2017 version?
@@thatlukeguy In English yes. In Russian it's called Vremya Pervykh.

I'll tell you what, I am impressed with these Russian made films, T-34, Guardians, Sputnik...I will watch this one with or without subtitles, with or without dub. I think Hollywood needs to be encouraged to put out better stuff, it's also good to get some entertainment without the leftist virtue signaling that makes it hard to get through many American films these days.
100%. Last 20+ years, Hollywood PedoCircleOfTrust has been a total libtarded trash propaganda.
Brilliant writing, acting, and execution of FX elements. This 5 minute video has more emotion than the last 5 years of hollywood.
I wish sarcasm had a font..
This is the worst dubbing I've ever heard. It sounds like listening to a translator at the U.N.
I honestly can't believe how bad it is.
Yeah they should just have the original voices
Same. Unwatchable. I can't even tell if the story looks good.
That general is the Soviet equivalent of the “that’s the fact jack” general from “Stripes.”
hahhahahhahha lets give it up for the big toe
Alexei Leonov, legendary cosmonaut.
He was already in a steep dive, no need to restart the engine to land. Perhaps the english translation was off. The effects look good though. Rather watch it with subtitles and original audio.
Mig-15 dead stick from about 1000m and 500 kph. I'm gonna go do this in DCS right now. Wish me luck. What an awesome scene!
Aleksei Leonov also was the first human who walked out into open space.
Maybe that's the reason for the name of the movie... ;-)

Would've been hilarious after he lands and he pulls the safety pin out THEN the ejection seats shoots him into the air.
I thought exactly the same thing
that would be very funny
That's exactly what I was expecting
no. that's not going to happen. this is not a comedy. this is a feature film based on real events. but then, the technician who forgot to pull out this pin will save Leonov's life.

I applaud the Russian producers for this effort. The Russian space program was everybit as exciting and groundbreaking as the American effort. This is a film long overdue! (But nothing can beat Tom Wolfe's semi-fictional novel-turned movie... one of the century's best films)
Awesome cockpit footage, what he did looked real. DCS: MiG-15bis owner here. You don't see such accuracy often in movies.
That's an early MiG-21 cockpit. The stick is a dead giveaway, but the rest of the cockpit looks pretty different too.
Seems exactly what a pilot would do. Not just use the sufficient altitude to glide for the nice paved runway or anything.

Subtitles or not, I want to see this movie. You all have stepped up your movie game.
This is a great movie & well worth watching, but stick with the subtitled version , badly done dubbing can kill a good movie.
Wow, the script/dialogue is Oscar worthy.
I just watched the whole movie
Awesome and trilled
Love from Pakistan to mother russia
That pilot has to be the oldest Lieutenant in the world 😉
In the then Soviet airforce aircrews were mostly given non officer rank.
Never seen a trailer like this before!
