The future becomes the present, and the present becomes the past. You idolize the person you *want* to be, and despise the person you *were* and the person you *are* now. You aren't the person you wanted to be in the past. The cycle of hate and hope spirals onward, and suddenly you realize you've forgotten who you wanted to be in the first place. The Tower of Sunz.
The Tower of Suns is a building built by a Japanese artist in 1970 for an expo, it's silhouette is shown a few times in this video. The tower has 3 faces, the top being the future, the front being the present, and the back being the past. Inside the tower is an exhibit called The Tree of Life depicting the evolution of lifeforms. My interpretation is that Miku is trying to escape her regretful past, it shows many scenes where she is contemplating or shown killing herself. Her struggle to climb the tower is representative of her trying to improve or 'evolve' beyond her past selves and attain the will to accept her past and move on.
Oh thanks ! That's a very weird building... I figure out the "arms" of the town are the middle part (= present) and the "head" is the upper part (= future) :)
Jimmawww Actually this is based on a poem by someone with disassociative identity disorder or as many usually call it multiple personality disorder. But cool idea!
I really love the part where the happy singing and the colorful art end abruptly and she snaps back into the monotonous beat of the rest of the song... the effect is just great.
@@witheredx6354 I feel like they have really different vibes. Okaasan is pretty openly spooky from the beginning, whereas this one feels like an unclear buildup to something that doesn’t actually come. Not that okaasan isn’t still unnerving, but what makes each song scary won’t necessarily affect everyone in the same way. Am I thinking too hard about it? Probably lol.
To me this song symbolizes self loathing at failing to accomplish your life goals, so you feel as though your past self is always hunting you down and blaming you for failing them, failing you both.
My idea is that it's about how Miku regrets many things she has done in her life, and wishes that she could change them, but the more that she tries to, the more she realizes she's is just fighting with herself. The regrets are making her turn into someone she isn't, and when she figures this out, she fights with all of the the other 'hers' (her inner self) before finally breaking out and realizing that she can still live even if she can't change what she regrets.
Personally, I get the feeling of Miku's self-loathing battling the desire to care for herself. Like the two main Mikus shown through the majority of the video. They go from strangling each other (2:40) to then following each other around (3:49) and then to reaching out to the other and trying to hold hands (4:18). Also towards the end some of the Mikus were caring for the child Miku and following each other up the tower. Kind of reminds me when I was going through depression. I despised myself and would beat myself up, emotionally and physically. Then I'd kind of nurture the wounds as a way to show I still cared about myself. It's like an abusive relationship with yourself. Strange, I know, but I went through it. Kind of the vibe I got from this video. I really connect with it. It's a pretty song and the art is pleasant. I love it. :>
This was exactly the vibe I had gotten from this video as well. I always felt it was centered around Miku dealing with this endless cycle of depression... and the way you described how you went through your own depression reminds me of how I am now, it's something I'm still trying to overcome. It's exactly how you described, an abusive relationship with myself. Thank you for sharing your insight, somehow reading it made me feel a bit better, I guess just knowing others have gone through the same struggles.
Wingardium Lachancla Fuck no. Beating yourself up physically and hating yourself so much that you get depressed and/or want to die is just toxic and harmful. Trauma doesn’t make you a better person, it just breaks you.
BlueBead Damn, this interpretation is spot on and I relate to it more than any person should. I’m glad you’re in a better place now, and I hope I will be too.
@@andreah9587 I'd forgotten about this comment of mine until your notification :0 Watching it now, it feels like a metaphor for climbing out of past negative thinking. "I am aimed at by the me of yesterday" and the "stalemate" meaning Miku's unable to win out against something like past guilt, trauma, or negative thoughts, faced with a seemingly endless tower, or unbeatable mental illness. But at 5:00 she passes right by the Miku representing her past self, and tries to climb anyways, passing other Mikus on the way-- possibly a representation of her changing over the years? I still don't get the scene at the end where she reaches the top and vanishes, just leaving the rooster she was carrying, but hey! She made it to the top! Because as long as you keep "climbing" you'll make it out some day, or at least end up much higher than you started. So I'm gonna be cliche as heck here and say just keep climbing! It's been 6 years since my original comment, and I've improved a ton in the mental health department. It was slow, and I'll probably always struggle with anxiety and depression to some degree, but my attitude's better, I have better coping mechanisms, I've gained some self confidence, I don't self harm anymore, I have a friend group that I love, and so on. I hope someday you can look back down your staircase and appreciate how far you've come too C:
It's pretty easy to figure this out. Basically shes running from herself. The staircase is a swirling vortex of hostility created by her past. She is living in the past (the chicken, little girl, etc). Her and this subconscious other form of her both have equal control and rules, like baseball which they use as a metaphor to explain the situation. The stairs she climbs is never ending- until she faces her past and moves on. At the end shes does, and regains control of herself and is in reality.
I love listening to this song. It reminds me of the atmosphere in my dreams. In about half of my dreams, I'm in a labyrinth that takes the form of a dormitory, hotel, mall, school, mansion, complex, etc. Travelling through those hallways, encountering various people, feels a lot like this. Although the dreams that take place outdoors also feel like this. It's just a very strange, cool song.
Well everyone all spoke about how this song represents Miku getting past her past selves, trying to aim for her idealised future, however no one speaks about the end so here my input on the end. As mentioned by others, Miku is trying to reach the top of the tower, the i proved and better her. However the top of the tower of sunz is exactly as it was in the bottom. Miku works so hard to become who she wishes to be, but in the end she finds out that the her on the top of the tower is still her and no matter how much she struggles, the past cannot be changed. The future her will still hold the burdens of her past. The reason why the tower always gets bigger and the reason why it is endless is because the more she tries to work to overcome her past, the more past that gets added to the tower and with attempts comes failure. Even if Miku reaches the top of the tower, she will be forced to restart everything in the end, since time is evergrowing and last she has overcome has become replaced by a new past. The cockrel could represent many things, such as cowardice. Realising she has to restart and “chickening” out as you would put it, whilst the now present miku has already remade herself to conqure the tower again. The poet who write the original tale has mpd, and some people with mpd, instead of holding many persona’s at once, instead reform their persona, thus remaking who they are completely and changing who they are to fit a situation. Chicken miku’s could also be associated with her suicide attempts, each other miku persona trying to stop the “chickens” from running from the situation upon realising that they are getting nowehere. In the end, tower of sunz is endless, for time is ongoing until you die. Miku wants to die but other sides of her won’t let her. Thus she is forever stuck climbing the tower od sunz until her future becomes a chicken or until the tower crumbles on her

I think she killed herself because she was so full of her own self hatred, and as a result, the only way for her to now 'save herself' is to learn to accept and love herself, however she still struggles with this and is still cold towards herself and so forever trapped in a stage of melancholy and grief. I love the surrealism of this song, the only thing I've ever heard like it is The Ghost of Romantic Transciever. They have quite similar sounds actually, both Miku songs with simplistic yet really good PVs, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something similar. I love both songs to bits.
7:55 long, 271,752 views. Doesn't seem like that many, but that's 4 years of view time, give or take. That's long enough to graduate, including all the eating, sleeping, and playing video games.
I knew there was something that I related to about this song. I have a dissociative disorder (not DID). The episodes really do feel like climbing a never ending tower, since one episode can last for several years, and trying to break out of it tends to make it worse.
Going to drop in and recommend one of my favorite songs/PV which is Tower or Sunz. Also I know it's a Miku expo but seeing the red made me hope that it's a Meiko cosplay
People, isnt it obvious? The song is about your past self dragging your future down, and you trying to free yourself from it So that you could go on. That is why 'hostility spirals in a vortex'. The endless struggle between what you were, and what you will be.
If anyone is wondering who the artist is: piapro.jp/my_page/?pid=cube_lab&view=content_relation Took me while to find them because I didn't read the original video description on NND lol and im ashamed but 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
im not the person i could think i am, i'm me and the me who've i've yet to see is the same, so i'll trust both past, present, and future til time doth end.
they look so innocent so misunderstood all they want is to escape this perpetual hell thats in the form of this spiral staircase thats going to flood and kill them all
Anarah I would of except I sold my wacom incuos drawing pad for 80$ (CAD) I always wanted to be an artist since I was young, but I sold my dreams for beer and cigarettes. life really is cruel. this is what I learnt long ago, and what yume Nikki is telling me now. life is cruel
So I think that Miku is trying to leave behind the old her and become something new,but her past keeps nagging at her and she keeps trying to break free.Around the end of the song, you see one miku trying to break free of a bunch of other mikus. The "funeral" part was an old habit dying. When she was climbing the stairs she was running away from her past.At the end she is finally becomes who she wants to be.The rooster might symbolize her bottled up past...or maybe the people around her.My opinion!
no matter how confusing or hard to understand this song is...I feel like I understand it. the meaning feels deep and nostalgic.sort of creepy and mysterious.
Yes, at 3:24 Miku is about to throw a paper airplane -im guessing just to past the lonley time in limbo- but she sees herself from the past, and she is suddenly remembering everything she was trying to forget. The part when all of the DWC characters are together is that they are all in heaven - remeber they didnt kill anyone, they were all killed by Miku- and miku is stuck in solitude.
This song has to be connected to dark wood circus/Related in someway. 3:31 The show master (the one who stands at 100 feet tall) 3:33 Red curtain falls (dark woods circus tent was red, and closed when taking a new child victim) 3:38 The little girl in dark woods circus, Meiko got turned into one of them from be coming the next victim. 3:44 a CIRCUS, a carnival. The blonde haired and grey haired one are dancing again, Just like in dark wood circus, Trees then cover the screen, the circus/carnival is in the forest and the same drum beat plays from dark woods circus. 4:03 The Balloon in dark wood circus in the girls hand, And that looks to be "the siren" in dark woods circus in the background. 6:16 The little girls eyes are covered, like the siren. Flowers and blood are around her, just like in dark woods circus, there is multiple references to decay, and flowers. 6:34 A pond, just like the song related to dark woods circus, Red swamp Bottom. 7:21, Again another reference of her eyes being covered.
Not related story wise, but I think the artist was inspired by their work on Machigerita's series and decided to carry it over. Specifically, the circus portion definitely has some Dark Woods Circus references, and in the beginning of the sequence you can see the black sun mask which represents the past, so I think that was just the artist correlating their past work with the past portion of the song.
Those occasional strange guitar sounds... especially when they get increasingly higher in frequency at around 6:45, I can't help but be reminded of the sound effects of nuclear detonations in " Time-Lapse Map of Every Nuclear Explosion Since 1945 - by Isao Hashimoto". It probably wasn't done on purpose but even the last one reminds me of the final detonation in that video.
Author's internal struggle with himself, decision making and deadlines. All of the past selves are always in mind, down to the child self, and even five minutes back, the self relating to the child self. The feeling of climbing an endless tower meaninglessly other than the fear of drowning by lingering too long. At the top is the present self, waiting for the rooster to announce morning, or the phone to ring. Self loathing and wish for escape from the past and the every day. That's how I see it.
Chasing herself could be her staying in her comfort zone and avoiding the outside world, but that habit ended up leading to her hiding away and being alone and depressed again.
Literally NO ONE will be here but does anyone know any other songs like this and Banshee Strikes? They sound very different but there’s just this feel they give off
I think this is about the stages of grief and she is constantly seeing the events that lead up to that moment, that it was her fault, memories of her and that person's past. Or i also thought that this was a sequel to Dark Woods Circus where she died and is struggling to be reborn.
Quinlan McMillan The visuals are by the same artist who illustrated Dark Woods Circus, but the song-writer is different. So it's not part of the series.
I think the idea is that shes jumped off a boat and is now dead or in a coma and she cant escape, shes only got her own company, and no matter how many times she tries to kill herelf she just cant die
I think shes stuck in a loop where everything repeats itself into a new destiny but she fails and fails then she goes bonkers when she sees her future self and she just feels the pain again.
Forgot to mention that the fake her, being eaten away by other fakes, pushes the real her towards the door of reality, and she becomes the real, normal her.
I think it's about depression. The multiple Miku's seem to be her experiences, or what she was in the past. The chicken that shows up sometimes is her conscious cowardliness....I don't know about the circus yet, but I think that's about the jist of it.
+GR-chan!! The same artist drew this, but no it has no involvement to Dark Wood Circus. This revolves around past, present, future, and the thoughts of themselves I assume.
GR-chan!! It's just literally the same artist, doesn't account for anything else. Besides that it wouldn't fit in the Dark Wood's Circus as an entire song series
In fairness, not everyone knows who wrote this or that song, and in the absence of that info, the little reference(s) the PV artist put in here could look pretty convincing. It's not that "people want to relate everything to Dark Woods Circus"; there just happen to be some other songs that look like they could be parts of it but aren't. :P Hell, one song (Wide Knowledge of the Late, Madness) has an entire fan-made PV specifically designed to make people think it's part of the series when it isn't.
Honestly in the end I was just giving my opinion lol idk no one knows honestly like they said so people can chill a little just because I think differently from the time theory
@Kriyara Tower of Sunz has no affiliation with any other song. It is its own complex story that is either really in depth or only seems to have meaning.
AHHH!!!!!!! THE MIKUS!!! THERES TOO MANY OF THEM! WE CANT HOLD THEM OFF, CAPTAIN!!!! Miku 1: *Pushes Miku 2* THE DOOR! ITS THERE! GO GET IT BROTHER! HURRY! Miku 2: NO! BROTHER! Miku 1: JUST GO! GO! PLAYING SIDE ORDER REMINDED ME OF THIS SONG SO I AM BACK AFTER YEARS :-]
FINALLY! i understood the song as a story line! it really isn't part of dark wood circus
it's actually a positive PV. Not depressing
One of the coolest vocaloid songs ive ever heard. A masterpiece. So glad to have found it again.
Thought I should point out that this is NOT part of the dark woods song series! Same artist, not same series.
Lunar-Elegance it is connected as u can see in 3:48 it was when miku went to the circus and got captured. 7:22 the deformed miku from dark wood circus
@@itzmehgachaluver2068 Actually its just because the same artist did the videos for both. It was a reference, not a direct connection, and was confirmed as such. I see where you'd get confused though
@@user-ov3wr3fh5m What's the artist's name? I've been trying to find out who they are to see their other work for years. And did they say this somewhere? I don't disagree, but I'd like to see a commentary about this song. I never did fully get it.
@@letticeherma2228 Actually, this was made by a different producer entirely by the name of sunzriver-P. Dark Woods Circus and the other songs connected are by Machigerita-P.
@@user-ov3wr3fh5m Oh! So it's not the same person that drew for both?
I love the surrealism of this song, the only thing I've ever heard like it is The Ghost of Romantic Transciever. They have quite similar sounds actually, both Miku songs with simplistic yet really good PVs, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something similar. I love both songs to bits.
If anyone has any other recommendations like these songs, please tell me!
You just can't get stuff like this these days.
I’m in love with this song it’s been years
So many vocaloid, such a hopeless sound
7:55 long, 271,752 views. Doesn't seem like that many, but that's 4 years of view time, give or take. That's long enough to graduate, including all the eating, sleeping, and playing video games.
Shut up nerd.
This song was actually based off a poem written by a man with dissociative identity disorder, or multiple personalities. The more you know.
What is it though?
I knew there was something that I related to about this song. I have a dissociative disorder (not DID). The episodes really do feel like climbing a never ending tower, since one episode can last for several years, and trying to break out of it tends to make it worse.
Can we have a link to it
Source?
this one is still a greatest of all time
or shall I say it's goated, because it's 2024
Going to drop in and recommend one of my favorite songs/PV which is Tower or Sunz. Also I know it's a Miku expo but seeing the red made me hope that it's a Meiko cosplay
Like David Lynch.
This song is so damn trippy. I love it!
People, isnt it obvious? The song is about your past self dragging your future down, and you trying to free yourself from it So that you could go on. That is why 'hostility spirals in a vortex'. The endless struggle between what you were, and what you will be.
My first vocaloid song, 5 years later i still love it : )
If anyone is wondering who the artist is:
piapro.jp/my_page/?pid=cube_lab&view=content_relation
Took me while to find them because I didn't read the original video description on NND lol and im ashamed but 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
im not the person i could think i am, i'm me and the me who've i've yet to see is the same, so i'll trust both past, present, and future til time doth end.
I feel like something else is going on here, but I can't tell what
I don't know why, but I like this song. it like a lullaby
Who woulda known this guy (sunzriver-P) made reverse rainbow
they look so innocent so misunderstood all they want is to escape this perpetual hell thats in the form of this spiral staircase thats going to flood and kill them all
I love the circus part. It's great, with all the voices in sync together.
3:25
I always feel compelled to cry when I hear this song. Miku didn't deserve to go through any of this. It's not fair that she did.
Im really needing this on Spotify
This song reminds me of yume nikki
I agree
wOAH IT DOES.
Anarah I would of except I sold my wacom incuos drawing pad for 80$ (CAD)
I always wanted to be an artist since I was young, but I sold my dreams for beer and cigarettes. life really is cruel. this is what I learnt long ago, and what yume Nikki is telling me now. life is cruel
I'm not the only one with that opinion, I see.
I don’t see how this is actually creepy, it’s just the art style. I find it really intriguing though.
12 years later it’s still great. Also rip wowaka…
wowaka didnt make this????????? it's by sunzriver-P...
This song makes me feel nauseated with deep sadness but.... I still love it 😄🎶
This make me feel in a way that I have never felt before, and this feeling is very hard for me to describe...
no matter how confusing or hard to understand this song is...I feel like I understand it. the meaning feels deep and nostalgic.sort of creepy and mysterious.
13 years...
Seriously...
I listened to this song a couple of years ago and now I'm coming back to it, I forgot how much I loved it
This reminds me of a dream I had while on a sugar/caffeine rush... Trippy... :|
Literally NO ONE will be here but does anyone know any other songs like this and Banshee Strikes? They sound very different but there’s just this feel they give off
For Banshee Strikes check out kiichi and Hikkie-P, I'm sure there are others but those are the usual starting point.
I think shes stuck in a loop
where everything repeats itself into a new destiny
but she fails and fails
then she goes bonkers when she sees her future self
and she just feels the pain again.
And 'my past is aiming at me' virtually gives the game away.
Forgot to mention that the fake her, being eaten away by other fakes, pushes the real her towards the door of reality, and she becomes the real, normal her.
best accidental click of my life
@Gardaint Ah that makes a lot more sense. Thanks for filling us in on that ^^
The artist is also the person who did the art for dark wood circus
I get the feeling that the pulses throughout the video are the sound of her heartbeat.
Probably my favorite Vocaloid song/video...
...so amazing. It messes with your mind.
I think it's about depression. The multiple Miku's seem to be her experiences, or what she was in the past. The chicken that shows up sometimes is her conscious cowardliness....I don't know about the circus yet, but I think that's about the jist of it.
I love the art work for this.
I feel like this connects to more of the dark wood circus theory perhaps
+GR-chan!! The same artist drew this, but no it has no involvement to Dark Wood Circus. This revolves around past, present, future, and the thoughts of themselves I assume.
well there is a part in this video where she's running through the circus rhieny
In or out of context, the lyrics to this song are pretty mind-blowing.
And that's why I love it. xDD
I love the...mood, this song has to it. Like I couldn't focus on anything else but this...
o.o
I’m also getting dark wood circus vibes from this song
@Kriyara Tower of Sunz has no affiliation with any other song. It is its own complex story that is either really in depth or only seems to have meaning.
The more I listen to this the more lovely and beautiful the music and video get. I could listen to this on repeat for hours.
Owh. This song is really cool with emotionless miku. Love it!
Many MIKUS of the Sunz
AHHH!!!!!!! THE MIKUS!!! THERES TOO MANY OF THEM! WE CANT HOLD THEM OFF, CAPTAIN!!!!
Miku 1: *Pushes Miku 2* THE DOOR! ITS THERE! GO GET IT BROTHER! HURRY!
Miku 2: NO! BROTHER!
Miku 1: JUST GO! GO! ILL HOLD THEM OFF! HURRY, YOU MUST ESCAPE! OR THE CYCLE WILL CONTINUE!
Miku 2: I LOVE YOU BROTHER!!!! *goes through door, falling through space-time*
Miku 2: HUUUUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
"Brother"?
Yes.
Lucy Jarvis Seems legit.
Lucy Jarvis Sounds like Bioshock Infinite
***** "No"? Are you sure you don't mean... "YES!"?
Yuuki-P's illustrations are so unique.
