I’ve tested more than 30 different products, and plenty of products with more mass have been less effective than lighter products. Constrained layer dampers use viscoelastic material to resist shearing forces between the treated panel, and the constraining layer. This leads a conversion of energy, from mechanical, to heat. How well this works, is determined primarily by the actual butyl formula itself, and the stiffness of the constraining layer.
Depends what you are after. For improved stereo performance the roof may make sense and you just need to know the square footage. Note that you only really need to treat large areas that are flat and not welded to something else. 3 packs should do it. However, this stuff is not for road noise. For that you want Resonix fiber mat and barrier or Mass loaded vinyl like Second Skin Luxury Liner Pro.
