  • Unboxing a Christmas present in August! This is a Vornado VFan Mini Classic in green. It's the smallest model in Vornado's VFan series, featuring two speeds. I got it for Christmas 2021, but left it in the box ever since because I kept delaying the unboxing video... for over 7 months. My first impressions are great. It seems to be well made, with mostly metal construction. The performance is a bit lacking, a pattern I noticed on Vornado's personal fans, but it's still quiet and manages to move a good steady stream of air. Thanks for watching!

    Very nice! This is honestly my most favorite modern Vornado fan, probably because I'm such a sucker for old designs haha. They did a pretty nice job retro-ifying this fan, it definitely looks much better than most modern retro fans

      Thanks! I agree, I’m glad Vornado is producing these VFans. The original Vornado design from the 50s is so timeless, no wonder it still looks fantastic today!

    I’m also pretty intrigued by these. They look like well designed well-made pieces of machinery.
    As always great presentation!

      Much appreciated! Yes these are certainly well made fans. The quality of the finish is fantastic too. The only thing not so fantastic is the price lol! It’s just a bit too high in my opinion.

    Very cool color and retro design. Vornado makes quality products. I have considered buying one of these but have been holding back due to the price. If they go on sale, I may buy one in this color as a decor piece.

      I fully agree! I’ve been wanting to buy this fan ever since it came out, but just couldn’t justify the price. But I’ve seen it go on sale occasionally on Amazon. I like this colour too, especially because it’s very close to the colour Vornado used on their early fans in the 1950s.

    The design of this fan is great, love the color too. But why did they go to such great lengths to produce a retro fan and not use a metal blade?

    • @TheSuperFanMan
      @TheSuperFanMan  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good point! However, the original Vornado fans from the 1950s also had plastic blades (Bakelite to be exact, which is an early plastic-like material), so it probably made sense to replicate it. Also, on a fan this small, a molded plastic bladeset is more resilient and cheaper to produce than a metal bladeset of identical geometry.

    Nice video! I really do like this series of fans, I think they are one of the best ones on the market. I have a slightly larger version of yours in that green, and I have one in that Mini size but with the cross base, that's gray. Mine has the chrome toggle switch, I didn't realize they changed it.
    I agree the air output is a little on the low side, but the cone design I think really does help maintain the airflow straight out.
    One thing I wish they still had is the little hang tag that my green one has. They don't include it anymore, probably a cost saving measure. The packaging also used to be a little more interesting, with old advertisements and cute little throwback icons like an antique phone next to their phone number and a mainframe computer next to the website, to go with the retro theme, but that's just packaging so not a big deal. LOL

      Thanks! Agreed, I think these VFans are great. I also have the same VFan Jr; I’ll have to make a video on it too! It looks fantastic next to this VFan mini. They changed the switch design rather quietly, likely because it’s not a significant re-design. I liked the toggle switch more, but I guess the rotary switch design matches the bigger VFans more.
      Yeah the cone inlet really does help direct the airflow. The trademark Vornado design seems to work really well on their mid to large size models, but not quite as well on their tiny personal fans, including the VFan mini. The noise level feels just a tad high for the amount of air it moves.
      I remember that previous box design and the tag! I also like that one better than the current design. I’m probably one of the few people who actually care about the product packaging/box so it would have been nice if Vornado kept the old design lol!

    The 1950s vibes are strong in 2022 standards!
    Anyway, have you find any retro-designed modern fans aside of Vornado, e.g. Panasonic/KDK and GE?

    • @TheSuperFanMan
      @TheSuperFanMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it is! Vornado did a good job with these VFans by preserving so much of the original 1950s design. There’s plenty of retro style modern fans that I’ve seen. Most of them are oscillating desk or pedestal fans, and small drum fans.

    Which table fan does impress you when it comes to the noise to performance ratio? I'm looking for a fan for my office. Thanks!

      Hard to go wrong with the Honeywell HT-900! If you have a bigger budget, Vornado and Dreo also make really quiet and powerful fans.

    Seems to be a common occurrence for modern fans with decent construction to have bad performance. Got a bionaire 12” desk fan with the same problem, surprisingly tough plastic but bad performance

    • @TheSuperFanMan
      @TheSuperFanMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that does happen from time to time. For Vornado personal fans, I’ve noticed that it’s a recurring trait. It seems like Vornado’s signature air circulator design doesn’t work the best at such a small scale. So while the fans do look great, they lack in performance.

    Vornado is the number 1 fan brand. As I read on the internet. But I still think super is way better in my opinion

      @Alexthefancollector Walker dollar tree fans are garbage becuase the plastic is cheap

    • @TheSuperFanMan
      @TheSuperFanMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ranking for who makes the best fans is quite subjective. Currently, I would say Vornado does rank pretty high, though it’s hard to say they’re number one.

    • @TheSuperFanMan
      @TheSuperFanMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Alexthefancollector Walker it’s all driven by money nowadays. It is quite unfortunate to see companies cut corners and drop their product quality to make cheaper fans. I’ve encountered numerous similar examples too, where a inexpensive generic fan was built better than a similar one from a bigger brand.

      @@TheSuperFanMan I agree but.. for some reason based on my research... The internet says that vornado is the number one fan

    • @TheSuperFanMan
      @TheSuperFanMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@superfanb5742 that’s likely based on statistics, such as sales, customer reviews, company value etc. But personal opinions can be different. Sure, the stats might rank Vornado as number one, but I personally wouldn’t quite agree.

      Yes it’s intended to look just like Vornado’s earlier models from the 1950s.
