Both use recovery mode. But depending on the situation, forcing the iPhone into recovery mode might be necessary to facilitate an update.

How did you enter wireless recovery mode? Was it the same method for entering wired recovery mode?

Can you wirelessly restore iPhone from MAC? I am noticing that the DFU restore from gives a lot of errors that generally dont mean anything.
