More the conditions than anything Jordys board also looked shaky and was just doing safe turns bar that one floater, if Kelly had made that barrel it would have been a 9 or 10 and a totally different heat.
Jordy is like an elegant surfer with bricks on his feet for power. It fits this wave well as he can draw out more appropriately long carves on a large canvas (I mean it is his homebreak) But I still love Kelly’s RaDicAL style more. Throws out his tail around on turns like a perfect 90s cartoon surfer should. Like if I drew a comic or animated a slick/RAD surfer I’d copy what I see in Kelly’s surfing. He moves as flexible and as nimble and loose more than anyone else on tour overall and his surfing still stands the test of time (even though others have become even more powerful in turns or acrobatic in airs or even deeper and specialized in barrel-riding).
He won by 2.59 in the end so even if it was rated 5.42 he would have pulled off the win. The variety he showed over the whole heat vs Kelly was brilliant imo.
I agree. Kelly was looking pretty shaky through the entire heat excluding one wave where he looked like Kelly. Jordy took it fair and square, I just feel that the scoring in his contest has been somewhat inconsistent thus far.
Yup, Andy Irons on his backhand might have something to say about that!! Pretty sure JJF for all his faults, could have something to say as well. And Taj - never seen someone get so deep so regularly
Very un-Slaterlike. The boy does not have much left to prove, so I guess he won't be as tuned as before. He may need to find his groove again, but you can never write him off. Something righteous about the fact that Jordy is the one to take Kelly out. When this guy finds his Mojo, he is unbeatable. I like him for the title.
Nope...hes done, totally been waiting for kellys return. Convinced he waz comin back on fire..but unfortunately I think he just needs to retire. Hes not composed at all, cant pull off basic maneuvers..jordy just looks so much better and smoother and just completing rides. Sorry slater looks like ur done..no worries dude ur in ur mid 40s bro and u conquered enough.
I said at Jbay didn't I? Fucking tard. You think that board looks good under Kelly's feet? I know Kelly is an all time great, but he looks like shite here.
Enrico du Plessis he's just got too many things he's concentrating on right now besides competition I hope he does the pipe Masters and of course jaybay like he's doing now and all the specialty events but I don't think he's ever going to get a world title again
Jetty 1502 - Just said the same thing on another comment here. I am sure that no matter how competitive he is, the boy really does not have much left to prove in addition to being distracted. I think he is just doing it because he misses the whole vibe, and mostly misses the drive and motivation he gets from it. Mostly, you can never write him off. I agree with you on JayBay and Pipe, but I would like to add one more - Theaupoo. I would also now like to see his maturity come out in riding the really big stuff (Jaws, big Sunset, Tavarua, Shipstern Bluff, Mavericks etc.) Many of the older legends (Ross Clarke Jones et.al.) have transitioned very nicely into big wave riding. Kelly should be a big wave legend.
Jordy played that smart knowing his home ground.great heat
Slater's board looks a little shaky!
i think it's because of the face of the waves he caought
Yes, epoxy or FST not the best with contours or chop on the waves..too much feedback. His board choice is way off.
alright..that's why

For you Chris. It's going to kick off mañana in Australia
What board is slater riding
Combine Kellys wave with the Venus Project city design and you get...
25 perfect waves wrapping the circle city all day every day every city.

Wsl selling out to facebook. What about the app? The Greed is real. 🤑
Slater DOES realize his at a heat rt? And not just local point break surfing? What happened
Jordy, you rip but that 8 for a couple turns and a floater was a bit off.
He won by 2.59 in the end so even if it was rated 5.42 he would have pulled off the win. The variety he showed over the whole heat vs Kelly was brilliant imo.
pulling a completion in that wind does up the game a bit.
Agreed

if kelly would have been 5 feet less deep on that barrel the heat would have been over
Bra start riding merricks again. No more Thailand special.
The goat will be back I think this contest just pissed him off
pottz at 7:35: "Kelly's the best tube rider ever, right?" pppfff, that's highly, highly debatable, and pottz is hardly unbiased.

NÃO HÁ POSSIBILIDADE DE COMPARAR A PISCINA DE ONDAS DO KELLY COM ESSAS ONDAS E OUTRAS ONDAS DO MAR ! NÃO HÁ !
ONDAS DO MAR É INCOMPARÁVEL !

kellys boards haven't gotten too small
That first wave by jordy is the reason never won a title. Safe surfing
slater hot on your heels there you were lucky he didn't get a big score.solid win though.slater need to leave his skateboard at home

Jordy's power and flow at JBay is lightyears better than Kelly's
I said at Jbay didn't I? Fucking tard. You think that board looks good under Kelly's feet? I know Kelly is an all time great, but he looks like shite here.
Uhulll !!!
That wasn't an 8.
Haha sometimes Jody tries to influence his scores w hand signals
what brand does Kelly surf? asking so that I can stay the fuck away from it
Oiii
Kellys over it.
That has been said before...

Enrico du Plessis yeah I forgot to mention Tahiti. He's always surfed really good at the big scary poo poo!
To Bad, when You sell Your Soul, You gotta keep Paying!!
Joel Turpel's commentary is SO LAME.
slater looking washed up, his boards look the same
